Sorry!!!!!} A Look the city of Louisville Kentucky just after the American Civil War, and it growth into the 1960's. 1883 - tornadoes was one measuring F4 on the Fujita scale, which visited Louisville, Kentucky. The tornado carved a path from the Parkland neighborhood all the way to Crescent Hill, destroying 766 buildings ($2½ million worth of property) and killing an estimated 76 to 120 people. At least 55 of those deaths occurred when the Falls City Hall collapsed. This is one of the highest death tolls due to a single building collapse from a tornado in U.S. history. In addition, it was one of the 25 most deadly tornadoes in U.S. history until May 22, 2011. It was relegated to 26th when the May 22, 2011, tornado in Joplin, Missouri, killed 158. 1875 The First Kentucky Derby The 1875 Kentucky Derby was the 1st running of the Kentucky Derby. The race took place on May 17, 1875.[1] The first Kentucky Derby was a 1.5 mile race, and the traditional distance of 1.25 miles was not established until the 1896 Derby.[2] Thirteen of the fifteen jockeys in the race, including winner Oliver Lewis, were African-American. Won by an African-American jockey Oliver Lewis (1856--1924) was an African-American jockey in Thoroughbred horse racing. In 1875, Lewis rode in the very first Kentucky Derby on the winning horse, Aristides. Lewis and Aristides took second place in the Belmont Stakes, which is now the third race of the Triple Crown 1917 Camp Taylor is a neighborhood and former military base six miles southeast of downtown Louisville, Kentucky, USA. First announced on June 11 it was originally a military camp named for former president Zachary Taylor. For a time it was America's largest military training camp, housing 47,500 men at one time, and spurred development in an area that was previously dominated by farmland. 1920s The extension towards the river west of the city creating the city's history westend. Disenfranchised African American residents of Little Africa it included several hundred homes as well as businesses and schools. In the 1870s, Joseph S. Cotter, Sr. became the first African American resident in the Homestead settlement. 1927 Jim Brown President of The First National Bank Of Louisville. •October 28, 1929 (Black Monday): The rally ends. Panic selling resumes. The Dow drops almost 40 points (nearly 13 percent) to close 260.64. October 29, 1929 (Black Tuesday): The Dow drops another 30 points (nearly 12 percent) to close at 230.07 on trading of 16 million shares. July 8, 1932: The Dow closes at 41.22, an 89 percent drop from its pre-crash high. 1937, intense rains drenched Louisville and continued falling for days. The Ohio River rose to levels never recorded before or since.The result was the "Great Flood of 1937"For residents of the Louisville area, it was a "massive" life-changing experience for 27 days. 200 Louisville residents died in the flood, according to the Encyclopedia of Louisville. In Louisville, the river crested about 30 feet above flood stage Jan. 27, and about 175,000 people were evacuated. While The Westend hit the hardest the Ohio rose up 50ft.a long Broadway. Western Louisville, Portland, downtown and an area near Butchertown called "The Point" (which was cleared out after the flood) were the hardest hit, but flooding extended to low-lying areas across the region — including most of Dixie Highway
