The aspect ratio is the ratio of the width of a shape to its height when the width is larger than the height, i.e. the shape is positioned as a "landscape" rather than "portrait".
It may be applied to two characteristic dimensions of a three-dimensional shape.
The term is most commonly used with reference to:
For a rectangle, the aspect ratio denotes the ratio of length to width of the rectangle. An aspect ratio of 1:1 is a square.
From left to right:
For an ellipse, the aspect ratio denotes the ratio of the major axis to the minor axis. An aspect ratio of 1:1 is a circle.
Aspect ratios are mathematically expressed as x:y (pronounced "x-to-y") and x×y (pronounced "x-by-y"), with the latter particularly used for pixel dimensions, such as 640×480. Cinematographic aspect ratios are usually denoted as a (rounded) decimal multiple of width vs unit height, while photographic and videographic aspect ratios are usually defined and denoted by whole number ratios of width to height. In digital images there is a subtle distinction between the Display Aspect Ratio (the image as displayed) and the Storage Aspect Ratio (the ratio of pixel dimensions); see distinctions, below.

In this video show I how to scale your games to a different aspect ratio. First let me say this is not for everyone, and if your PC can handle it there's no need to do this at all. In this video show I how to scale your games to a different aspect ratio.
First let me say this is not for everyone, and if your PC can handle it there's no need to do this at all. If your monitor is 1080p natively I wouldn't bother with this at all either. If your monitor is in a different aspect ratio than 16:9, and you have problems recording this may help. There are a few reasons to use this method if just playing in the correct aspect ratio is not an option that you want to choose.
1. You can play in your monitors native resolution, which allows high end games to play better most of the time.
2. This method down scales the video, which according to OBS documentations I've read makes OBS itself take less processing power to record your videos.
3. You can directly upload your files to YouTube without editing, and they will be in the proper 16:9 aspect ratio.
After many hours of messing with OBS I've figured out how to do quite a bit with it. However, I had a really hard time figuring it out to start with, and wanted to make these tutorials to help others out.
