Why We're Here: Twin Cities
Why, with all the possibilities that exist in the world, do we live here in the Twin Cities? Chief Keef has again caused controversy and made the news after urging his 1,100,000 plus Twitter followers to vandalise a house in Minneapolis, & it seems some residents are not too happy.
It’s unclear what grievance Chief Keef had & who exactly it was with. Rumors say the address he posted was supposed to be either an unnamed person who he had a problem with or Hi Def, a cameraman who recently shocked his followers by attempting to ‘expose’ Chief Keef and Fredo Santana among others.
News reports on KSTP report that the whole incident was a ‘big misunderstanding’, as the only residence of the named address on Bryant Avenue North is 3 college students who have been the only residents of the house for the last year. People have been driving past the woman’s home taking pictures and videos and posting them on social media to the point one of the women says she ‘fears for her own safety’, and police have been ‘monitoring the area surrounding the house’ to stop any incidents from occurring.
Other Minneapolis rappers and residents also had words for Chief Keef, accusing him of bringing unwanted attention to their neighbourhood for no reason. These included Kash Da Kid & Cutthroat Cash, who have featured on songs alongside Lil Jay, Billionaire Black and King Yella. See all their responses above.

Why, with all the possibilities that exist in the world, do we live here in the Twin Cities? In the spring and summer of 2010, we took our camera to the streets of Minneapolis and St. Paul to find people willing to talk, unscripted, on film. The result, this film, is our collective love poem to the Twin Cities.

As the police arrested three people on Tuesday in connection with the shooting of five people during a Black Lives Matter protest outside a police precinct here, demonstrators returned to the street with renewed vigor, vowing not to cower in fear of what one organizer called “an act of terrorism.”
From Our Advertisers
Tensions remained high as activists urged caution among the peaceful demonstrators who have been protesting after a white Minneapolis police officer fatally shot Jamar Clark, 24, an unarmed black man, on Nov. 15.
The police said that they had arrested a 23-year-old white man, and that two other white men, ages 21 and 26, turned themselves in on Tuesday afternoon. A 32-year-old Hispanic had been detained and questioned but was released when the police determined that he was not involved in the Monday night shooting, they said.
Activists remained critical of the police, saying that officers did not properly respond during the shooting and that they had lost trust in the department.

Chief Keef is in hot water for calling on his more than a million followers to vandalize a home in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Friday.
Sosa told followers to “throw eggs and sh*t in a bag and rocks” at a home in North Minneapolis.
Sosa’s tweet, however, appears to be a misunderstanding after it was discovered the home belongs to three college women, according to Minneapolis’ Eyewitness 5 News.
“I’m fearing for my safety,” resident Ashley told Minneapolis’ Eyewitness 5 News. “I have two other roommates that aren’t able to come home tonight because of this, and it’s not going to end tonight. Social media goes on forever. You could re-tweet this in four months and throw eggs at my house.”
Many of Sosa’s followers posted snapshots and video of the women’s home onto social media.
Minneapolis police guarded the women’s home for hours to make sure there was no vandalism. They advised the women who lived there to stay somewhere else to be safe.
Ashley had a few words for Sosa.
“You have a lot of say in what goes on in the world, being so famous, that this is just kind of sickening in what you do with your time, and if you’re going to put a hit on a house, you make sure that they live there,” she said.
Sosa knew his tweet might have gotten him in trouble.
He wrote, “They might Have the Police looking for me.”

» Subscribe to Red Bull: http://win.gs/SubToRedBull
Minneapolis, Minnesota is the city you've probably never skated, that you should visit to come skate. The city centre has been skated for some 25 years with some spots, like the Garage, staying relevant and skateable that whole time. Spots are literally a stone throw away, and when the winter is at bay, there's no beating the weather.
Pro skaters like Steve Nesser, Clint Peterson and Davis Torgerson hail from Minneapolis or nearby, with Nesser holding it down year-round, running Familia Skateshop and the Familia HQ skatepark, which helps keep the tight-knit skate scene from going crazy every winter.

The Minneapolis-Saint Paul region in the US state Minnesota is the poster child for economic growth, diverse business sectors, and strong trade ties in America.
Despite major cities, such as Detroit, tumbling into bankruptcy, the 16-county Minneapolis-Saint Paul region's GDP is slightly larger than that of Ireland and Portugal and has reported economic growth that is 56% times faster than the US as a whole.
GDP is at $220bn and is home to 3.4 million residents which enjoy the lowest unemployment rate of all major economies in the US at 4.9%.
Meanwhile, around 90 British companies operate in the state, investing more than $1 billion in the economy, employing more than 14,000 Minnesotans, largely in the greater Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro region.
Worldwide, Britain is the second largest investor in Minnesota, second only to Canada.
Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and Michael Langley, CEO, Greater Minneapolis-Saint Paul Regional Economic Development Partnership all caught up with IBTimes TV to tell the secrets behind the region's success.

An original production by GearJunkie.com and Twin Cities filmmaker Erik Nelson (www.eriknelson.co), '50 Reasons' stakes a claim that Minneapolis is the bike capital of America. 8. Copenhagen - The city has committed to carbon neutrality by 2025 and 40% of its citizens regularly commute via bicycle.
7. Berlin - Berlin is testing out vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technologies in the hopes of creating a virtual power plant from electric vehicles.
6. Tokyo - The city will create a smart town in the suburbs in partnership with major industry. The eco-burb will contain homes that integrate solar panels, storage ba tteries, and energy efficient appliances all connected to a smart grid.
5. London - also scored relatively high across the board. London has been well-recognized for some of its sustainability innovations (i.e. congestion tax) and its robust transit system.
4. New York - New York scored higher than most other cities in the ranking in all of the categories except of quality of life, where it ranked a poor 47th. It has teamed with innovator IBM to help the city prevent fires and protect first responders as well as identify questionable tax refund claims--a move that is expected to save the city about $100 million over a five-year period.
3. Paris - Paris already has a highly successful bike sharing program, Velib, and just last month, its mayor launched a similar model for small EVs called Autolib.
2. Toronto - smartest city in NA, scored well across the board, it is an active member of the Clinton 40 (C40) megacities, which seek to transition to the low-carbon economy. The private sector is getting in on the action too, setting up a Smart Commute Toronto initiative to increase the city's transit efficiency.
1. The smartest city in the world is Vienna - Vienna was the only city that ranked in the top 10 in every category. It is establishing bold smart-city targets and tracking their progress to reach these goals with programs like Smart Energy Vision 2050, Roadmap 2020, and Action Plan 2012-2015.
A smart city is defined as using information and communication technologies to be more intelligent and efficient in the use of resources, resulting in cost and energy savings, improved service delivery and quality of life, and reduced environmental footprint--all supporting innovation and the low-carbon economy.
The rankings were determined by the cities scores on 4 global categories: Innovation, Green ranking, Quality of life and digital city.

Chicago, once a small trading post on Lake Michigan, has grown into one of the country’s most famous cities. Visit “The Windy City” and chow down on deep dish pizza for a truly unique vacation experience.
Follow “The Loop,” the city’s primary business district, and marvel at its array of high-rise buildings, consulates, and universities. Shopping and fine dining abound in this area. If you’ve worn yourself out in the city proper, set a more sedate pace at the Riverwalk, a pedestrian path along the Chicago River, or visit the many museums and parks the city has to offer. You’ll never believe you’re actually downtown when you walk through the Garfield Park Conservatory, and the Art Institute of Chicago will allow you to appreciate creative works from around the world.
No Chicago tour is complete without a mention of the nightlife, so close out your day at a jazz lounge and let the sweet sound of music carry you away. Visit our Chicago travel guide and plan your next vacation today.

Welcome to Toronto, the largest city in Canada and a hub of trade and culture.
“The City That Works” is full of a can-do spirit that is reflected in its buildings. From the famous CN Tower to the castle-like Casa Loma, there’s all sorts of eye candy for the architecture enthusiast. Your Toronto tour should include a trip to Edward Gardens in Hyde Park, or one of the many other green spaces located in the city. Take a bike ride along the trails, or enjoy a picnic while the local chipmunks look on. Don’t drop anything; they’ll grab it.
Your Toronto sightseeing can continue at the Harborfront Center. Go for a walk along the marina, or grab a pint at a brewhouse. And no trip to Toronto is complete without a visit to the Hockey Hall of Fame, so make sure you’ve got your team paraphernalia in order before you venture inside. Looking for shopping? You’ll find the Underground City and Kensington Market ready to welcome you and your credit card – or several credit cards, as the case may be. After a day of madcap purchasing, why not stock up on fresh, healthy food at the St. Lawrence Market? You’ll have worked up quite an appetite for delicious local produce.
Before you leave, head to Niagara Falls and take in the spectacle of nature’s power. You’ll never forget the sight and sound of all that water pouring over the falls, nor will you ever forget your trip to Toronto.

Welcome to San Diego, often called the birthplace of California.
Start your San Diego tour with a stop in Old Town, a historic park filled with buildings dating back to the 1820s. If you want something a little livelier, go a few miles south to check out the Gaslamp District, full of Victorian-era architecture and a thriving bar and club scene. Bringing the kids with you, or looking for a more sedate afternoon? Stop by the San Diego Zoo and spend some time with the many animals taking up residence there – including some of the few pandas outside of China.
Explore San Diego’s ties to the sea by touring the U.S.S. Midway, Navy Pier, and Maritime Museum. From there, it’s just a skip across the bay to Coronado, where you can lay out in the sun and soak up some rays in a quiet beach town.
Round out your day with a trip to “the jewel,” better known as La Jolla, and indulge in some of the best seafood and Mexican food you’ll find anywhere. Don’t forget to say “Hi” to the sea lions.

Come to Dubai, the ancient City of Gold, for your next vacation.
Modernity and antiquity collide in this vibrant city. Shop at the same spice market locals have been visiting for generations, then visit the stores in the Gold Souk, a jewelry-centered traditional marketplace. For a more modern shopping experience, go to the Dubai Mall, home to over 1200 stores, an underwater zoo, and KidZania®, a “city” where children can roleplay various careers.
To soak up some of the legendary Dubai sunshine, simply step outside. Take in the view of the city from the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Continue your Dubai tour by wandering through the exotic buildings and resorts, or visit some of the public beaches. If you’d like to try something a little different and don’t mind paying a small fee, you can also attend local hotel beaches even if you aren’t staying there.
You can’t finish your Dubai sightseeing without a trip into the desert itself. Ride a camel, go sandboarding, or just stand out on the dunes and marvel at the beauty of it all.

On July 12, 2012 I embarked on a real adventure: a biking tour of Minneapolis. Early in the morning my friend Gail dropped me off at Calhoun Bicycle Rentals, where Brad, one of their guides, took me under his wing and showed me around one of America's best bicycling cities. We started on the Cedar Lake Trail, made a quick stop at Hidden Beach and continued into downtown Minneapolis. We even cycled right next to the north wall of the Twins Stadium. Once in downtown, we admired the many bridges over the mighty Mississippi River and continued to Mill Ruins Park, a remainder of the many mills that used to dominate the Minneapolis skyline, particularly in the second half of the 19th and early 20th century. This was the era when Minneapolis had 33 flour mills that produced almost 10% of the flour and grist in the entire United States.
Brad took me past the modern Guthrie Theater to the 35W Memorial that commemorates the collapse of an important bridge in 2007 during rush hour that killed 13 people. Behind the memorial is a lookout point that provides a phenomenal view over the Mississippi River, the bridges that cross it and the various remaining mill buildings on both sides of the river. We headed back north again and crossed the river on the Stone Arch Bridge, a curved railway bridge that was opened in 1883. From here we explored the eastern shoreline as well as Nicollet Island. Then we headed back south through the campus of the University of Minnesota before crossing the Mississippi again on the Washington Bridge and then riding south along the big river until we headed back to the bicycle store on the Midtown Greenway which is almost like a bicycle highway.
Biking in Minneapolis is a great experience; the city has an extensive trail system, excellent signposting and surprisingly considerate motorists that stop for bicyclists at intersections.

wn.com/Minnesota Travel A Bike Tour In Minneapolis
Then we headed back south through the campus of the University of Minnesota before crossing the Mississippi again on the Washington Bridge and then riding south along the big river until we headed back to the bicycle store on the Midtown Greenway which is almost like a bicycle highway.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Calhoun
Lake Calhoun is the biggest lake in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and part of the city's Chain of Lakes. Surrounded by city park land and circled by bike and walking trails, it is popular for many outdoor activities. The lake has an area of 401 acres (1.62 km2) and a maximum depth of 87 feet (27 m).
The lake is part of the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway, connecting with Lake of the Isles on the northeast, Cedar Lake on the northwest, and Lake Harriet on the south. The trail system has a 3.2-mile (5.1 km) trail around Lake Calhoun for bicyclists and skaters and a 3.1-mile (5.0 km) trail around Lake Calhoun for pedestrians. Both of these trails connect to the larger trail system via connections to Lake of the Isles and Lake Harriet. In addition, the Midtown Greenway Trail is located just north of the lake and just north of Lake Street. The lake itself is popular for canoeing, kayaking, and windsurfing, and it has three swimming beaches. The three beaches are Calhoun North Beach on the north side of the lake, Calhoun 32nd Beach on the east side and Calhoun Thomas Beach on the south side. Surrounding park land offers parking, picnicking, volleyball, and athletic fields. It is also home of sailing, hosting the Calhoun Yacht Club, the Lake Calhoun Sailing School, as well as local high school teams and the University of St Thomas Sailing Team.
A plaque on the east side of the lake commemorates the first home built in Minneapolis by Gideon Pond, a missionary, in the 1830s. On the west side is located the Bakken Museum, which is devoted to the study of electricity in life...

Lake Harriet is a lake in the southwest part of Minneapolis, just south of Lake Calhoun and north of Minnehaha Creek. The lake is surrounded by parkland as part of the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes. The lake has an area of 335 acres (1.36 km2) and a maximum depth of 85 feet (26 m).
Lake Harriet is very popular for recreation. It offers sailing, two beaches, and a system of bike and pedestrian trails (about 3 miles (4.8 km) for the bike trail and 2.75 miles (4.43 km) for the pedestrian trail). The trail and parkway system, part of the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway, connects with Lake Calhoun on the north end via William Berry Parkway and with the Minnehaha Creek trail system on the southeast corner. The north end of the lake also offers a bandshell, which is used in the summer months for concerts, and a refreshment stand. A preserved section of the Como-Harriet Streetcar Line runs between Lake Calhoun and the west side of Lake Harriet...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Nokomis
Lake Nokomis is one of several lakes in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The lake was originally named Lake Amelia in honor of Captain George Gooding's daughter, Amelia, in 1819. Its current name was adopted in 1910 to honor Nokomis, grandmother of Hiawatha (legendary Indian hero of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem, The Song of Hiawatha). It is located in the southern part of the city, west of the Mississippi River and south of Lake Hiawatha. The lake is oval in shape, with a long axis running southwest to northeast. Because the lower part of the lake is crossed by Cedar Avenue running north-south, the impression from the ground is that the lake is shaped like an L. The lake has an area of 204 acres (0.83 km2).
When purchased in 1907, the lake was very shallow, only 5 feet (1.5 m) deep in the deepest spot. Much of it was actually marshland or slough -- a drainage area for the neighborhood. It was deepened by dredging to produce the current lake.
In 1940, Dr. Chris Lambertsen performed about 12 SCUBA dives in his Lambertsen Amphibious Respiratory Unit (LARU) prototype in Lake Nokomis. The LARU was the first rebreather designed and built in the United States and these dives are the first closed-circuit oxygen dives in U.S. history...
Lake Nokomis has recently undergone a preservation project, creating areas of native vegetation along its shores. Several artificial ponds have been added to a more practical degree, as the areas where they are now were almost always flooded.
The local population uses the lake for a variety of purposes. Fishing and sailing are popular, there are two beaches with good (imported) sand, and the surrounding large park has facilities for walking and running, softball, cycling, and other sports...

On your next trip to Austria, pay a visit to its capital city of Vienna. During the late 19th and early 20th century, this city became a cultural epicenter of Europe, contributing art, philosophy, and culture on its way to becoming one of the world’s great cities.
During your Vienna sightseeing, you can drink coffee in the same cafes as Einstein and Freud, or wander down the streets that inspired Beethoven. Tour galleries devoted to some of the most magnificent artwork in all of Europe, then walk along the Ringstrasse. Also called “Ring Road,” this downtown boulevard home to private residences, palaces, and other exquisite examples of architecture for you to marvel at.
Much of Vienna tourism is centered in its cafes. This is not just because its residents love strong coffee—though they do—but because Viennese social life largely grows out of its coffee houses. Locals will spend hours at their favorite cafes, reading the paper, speaking to friends, working on projects, or listening to music in the evenings. Sit at a table and watch the people of Vienna stroll by, or enjoy a sachertorte, or chocolate cake, while catching up on your latest novel. It’s impossible to visit this city and not be inspired.
Vienna has long been called The City of Music. Find out why at the Vienna State Opera; a backstage tour will show you all the ins and outs of this majestic place, as well as give you a glimpse of why it has been at the forefront of entertainment since its construction in the 1800s. Afterward, head a few blocks south to the Volksgarten, or people’s garden. Stroll through its pathways and sniff the sweet fragrance of its hundreds of roses. What better way to end a day in one of the world’s most beautiful cities?
What was your favorite part of Vienna?
