B Adventures, Travel Series: Philippines 2014, Season 1, Episode 11 of 26. Guide, tips, and advice.
Davao Waterfront Insular Hotel. Davao City in Mindanao, is known for being very safe and clean. Shopping, food, taxi's, etc are much cheaper compared to Manila, great place to visit. Also a "no smoking" city. You can only smoke in designated areas, and no littering, or you will be fined.
Travel Tips:
Everyone spoke English and generally very friendly.
Its important to have photo ID for flights, hotels, and if police ask.
Its common for taxi drivers in Manila to try rip you off. Ask them nicely to put the meter on, or negotiate the price from the start if you know what it costs to your location. Otherwise find another taxi!
Shopping mall culture, locals love the mall for the aircon and to get out of the heat.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be tough, but be respectful and polite about it. Shop around, you can often get a better price.
"Tip" can also mean bribe, so don't be afraid to ask what you're paying for upfront. Locals often do things to try help you, but then expect a tip.
The average basic worker earns PHP 300 a day. So tipping PHP 20 - 50 is fine.

...In 1521, Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan arrived in the Philippines and claimed the islands for Spain. Colonization began when Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi arrived from Mexico in 1565 and formed the first European settlements in Cebu. In 1571, after dealing with the local royal families in the wake of the Tondo Conspiracy and defeating the Chinese pirate warlord Limahong, the Spanish established Manila as the capital of the Spanish East Indies.
Spanish rule contributed significantly to bringing political unity to the archipelago. From 1565 to 1821, the Philippines was governed as a territory of the Viceroyalty of New Spain and then was administered directly from Madrid after the Mexican War of Independence. The Manila galleons linking Manila to Acapulco traveled once or twice a year between the 16th and 19th centuries. Trade introduced foods such as corn, tomatoes, potatoes, chili peppers, and pineapples from the Americas. Roman Catholic missionaries converted most of the lowland inhabitants to Christianity and founded schools, a university, and hospitals. While a Spanish decree introduced free public schooling in 1863, efforts in mass public education mainly came to fruition during the American period.
During its rule, the Spanish fought off various indigenous revolts and several external colonial challenges from Chinese pirates, the Dutch, and the Portuguese. In an extension of the fighting of the Seven Years' War, British forces under the command of Brigadier General William Draper and Rear-Admiral Samuel Cornish briefly occupied Manila. They found local allies like Diego and Gabriela Silang who took the opportunity to lead a revolt, but Spanish rule was eventually restored following the 1763 Treaty of Paris...
In 1898, the Spanish-American War began in Cuba and reached the Philippines. Aguinaldo declared Philippine independence from Spain in Kawit, Cavite on June 12, 1898 and the First Philippine Republic was established the following year. Meanwhile, the islands were ceded by Spain to the United States for US$20 million in the 1898 Treaty of Paris. As it became increasingly clear the United States would not recognize the First Philippine Republic, the Philippine--American War broke out. It ended with American control over the islands which were then administered as an insular area.
In 1935, the Philippines was granted Commonwealth status. Plans for independence over the next decade were interrupted by World War II when the Japanese Empire invaded and established a puppet government. Many atrocities and war crimes were committed during the war such as the Bataan Death March and the Manila massacre that culminated during the Battle of Manila. Allied troops defeated the Japanese in 1945. By the end of the war it is estimated over a million Filipinos had died.

Granito de Oro is an islet in Coiba National Park that has become one of the most popular stops for visitors interested in sunbathing, diving in the waters that abound in fish, or spending some time relaxing on one of the whitest sand beaches in the world. =========
Granito de Oro is located in the Pacific Ocean, south of the province of Veraguas. The island is within the 270,125-hectare area of Coiba National Park that protects marine, coastal, and island ecosystems and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005. Within this park are the insular areas (153,582 hectares) of Coiba Island, Ranchería (Coibita) Jicarón, Jicarita, Afuerita, Canal de Afuera, Uvas, Contreras, and Brincanco, as well as marine areas (216,543 hectares), making it one of the largest marine parks in the world.

B Adventures, Travel Series: Philippines 2014, Bonus Footage, Episode 25. Guide, tips, and advice.
The wedding at Davao Waterfront Insular Hotel. Davao City in Mindanao, is known for being very safe and clean. Shopping, food, taxi's, etc are much cheaper compared to Manila, great place to visit. Also a "no smoking" city. You can only smoke in designated areas, and no littering, or you will be fined.
Puerto Princesa, Palawan is a popular tourist city with many beach resorts and seafood restaurants. Very nice islands and beaches. Also very clean and no smoking city. You can only smoke in designated areas, and no littering, otherwise you can be fined.
The wedding at Davao Waterfront Insular Hotel
Santa Monica / Mitra Ranch, Puerto Princesa Palawan.
Dos Palmas Resort, Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

Réunion is an insular region of France located in the Indian Ocean. It is situated east of Madagascar and about 175 kilometres (109 mi) southwest of Mauritius, the nearest island. As of 2014, its population numbered 844,994 inhabitants.
The island has been inhabited since the 17th century, when people from Europe (mostly France), Madagascar and Africa settled there. Slavery was abolished on 20 December 1848 (a date celebrated yearly on the island), after which indentured workers were brought from South India, among other places. The island became an overseas department of France in 1946.
The local language, spoken by the majority of the population, is Réunion Creole. The official language is French.
Administratively, Réunion is one of the overseas departments of France. Like the other four overseas departments, it is also one of the 27 regions of France, with the modified status of overseas regions, and an integral part of the Republic with the same status as those situated on the European mainland. Réunion is an outermost region of the European Union and, as an overseas department of France, a part of the Eurozone.

Benin Travel Video - If youre heading to West Africa to unearth lost treasure, look no further than Benin. This club-shaped country, on the western edge of Nigeria, was once one of the most powerful empires in Africa -- the Dahomey kingdom. The ruins of the Dahomeyans palaces and temples can be seen in Abomey, while Ouidah is a poignant reminder of where their riches came from: the slave trade. The Route dEsclaves in Ouidah was the last walk on African soil for slaves bound for Brazil and the Caribbean. Museums here and in Porto Novo, Benins lagoon-side capital, examine the resultant Afro-Brazilian society and culture. Cotonou, on the other hand, is urban Africa at its most frazzling and polluted - but is not without its own charms, a lively nightlife and good shopping being a couple of them.
Regardless of the ill-gotten Dahomeyan gains glittering in the Musée Historique dAbomey, there are plenty of treasures on Benins dusty streets and palm-fringed beaches. This is the birthplace of voodoo, the countrys national religion, exported by the slaves and distorted by Hollywood. Voodoo is an important part of everyday life and most towns bear signs of it, such as the fetish markets stocked with the heads and skins of every animal imaginable.
Elephants, lions and crocodiles can be seen in more animated form in the northern wildlife parks, notably Pendjari, one of the best in West Africa. Then there are the stilt villages, home to thousands in the southern lagoons, and the northern tata somba (fortlike mud huts) built by the insular Somba people. Not only is Benin a richly historical and cultural country, this politically stable nation is one of the easiest parts of West Africa to travel in.

B Adventures, Travel Series: Philippines 2014, Season 1, Episode 20 of 26. Guide, tips, and advice.
Tali Beach House in Nasugbu, Batangas, is a first class province of the Philippines. It's one of the most popular tourist destinations near Metro Manila, about 3-4 hours drive. Beautiful private beach houses in gated communities.
Road trip from Makati Manila to Batangas.
The Tali Beach House.
Private beach.
Boat ride - snorkeling and scuba diving tour. We bought fresh squid from local fishermen.

Travel Philippines, Season 2, Ep4. Dumaguete City, province of Negros Oriental. It is the capital, principal seaport, and largest city of the province. Nicknamed "The City of Gentle People". Shopping and eating out is often cheaper compared to larger cities if you know the local language and culture. Some people maybe interested in retiring in Philippines to live their dreams. I highly recommend you visit first to explore areas you are interested in. Take a few weeks or months to see if you like it and can fit in. I know successful expats who stayed and have a happy life, and others who left Philippines after a few years. Living in a city long term is not the same as a short vacation. So you will have to get use to local standards. A local standard of living cost can be very affordable, depending on your lifestyle. But a high Western standard like living in America or Australia would cost the same or more than living back home in USA or AU. I've seen other party goers living beyond their means and they get into trouble or run out of money real quick.

City Burger, San Jose St, Dumaguete. Inato BBQ chicken.
Catching up with some local pinoy friends.
Hayahay Treehouse Bar and Viewdeck restaurant, Flores Ave Piapi, Escano Beach, Dumaguete (further up Rizal Boulevard).
Travel Tips:
Everyone spoke English and generally very friendly.
It is important to have photo ID for flights, hotels, and if police ask.
It is common for taxi drivers in Manila and every other city to try rip you off, or overcharge foreigners. Ask them nicely to put the meter on, or negotiate the price from the start. Ask locals what it costs to your location. If you are not comfortable, don't use that taxi. Don't be afraid to move on and find another taxi!
Shopping mall culture, locals love the mall for the aircon and to get out of the heat.
Generally you will notice ash and dust particles in the air as burning trash and charcoal BBQ cooking is quite common. Also if there is a lot of vehicle traffic in that city from Jeepney buses, motorbikes, trucks and cars.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be firm and confident, but always be respectful and polite. Shop around, you can often get a better price. Ask around about local fair pricing for things you want to do.
"Tip" can also mean bribe, so don't be afraid to ask what you're paying for upfront. Locals often do things to try help you, but then expect a tip.
The average basic worker earns PHP200 - 300 a day. So tipping PHP 20 - 50 is fine.
