David (/ˈdeɪvɪd/; Hebrew: דָּוִד, Modern David, Tiberian Dāwîḏ;ISO 259-3 Dawid; Arabic: داوُد Dāwūd; Syriac: ܕܘܝܕ Dawid; Ancient Greek: Δαυίδ; Latin: Davidus, David; Strong's: Daveed) was, according to the Books of Samuel, the second king of the United Kingdom of Israel, and according to the New Testament, an ancestor of Jesus. His life is conventionally dated to c. 1040 – 970 BCE, his reign over Judah c. 1010–970 BCE.
The Books of Samuel, 1 Kings, and 1 Chronicles are the only Old Testament sources of information on David, although the Tel Dan Stele (dated c. 850–835 BCE) contains the phrase בית דוד (bytdwd), read as "House of David", which many scholars confirm to be a likely plausible match to the existence in the mid-9th century BCE of a Judean royal dynasty called the House of David.
Depicted as a valorous warrior of great renown, and a poet and musician credited for composing much of the psalms contained in the Book of Psalms, King David is widely viewed as a righteous and effective king in battle and civil justice. He is described as a man after God's own heart in 1 Samuel 13:14 and Acts 13:22.

David Reubeni was one of the most colorful messianic pretenders of Jewish history. A little person with a shady background, he was received with dignity by Popes and Kings in the fifteenth century, regaling them with tales of the Jews of the east and promising them great military victories should they enlist his service. He gathered Jewish followers around Europe, eventually attracting the unwanted attention of the Inquisition.

BECAUSE the children are our future - Mitch and Andrew talk Hurricanes Katrina, Sandy and the long term effects of disasters on children and families with David Abramson, the founding director of NYU's Program on Population Impact, Recovery, and Resiliency (PIR2). Warning: It's not pretty. On the bright side: How do you get teenagers involved with disaster recovery? Can Mitch even get his own daughter to talk to him about disasters? Also, where were you when you heard John Lennon died? Can starving actors turn the tide on hurricane evacuation? And we get fan mail from Canada!
“Fast Forward: David Carr Talks With Jill Abramson” is the first in a series of WBUR events looking at what lies ahead in culture and public life. It also marks the first public appearance for Carr and Abramson in their new roles as professors. Debugging software is a critical activity, but there are very few software tools that address the problem well. The most widely available tools are very low level, and have hardly changed in years. These traditional tools allow a programmer to control the execution of each process (or thread) and to examine and manipulate the state of every thread. However, modern scientific codes have thousands of independent threads, and they manipulate enormous data structures. Any wonder that debuggers are not widely used — traditional tools simply don't scale to meet the needs of modern supercomputing. As we move to the exa-scale, this can only get worse. Some years ago we pioneered data centric debugging. In data centric debugging a user reasons about an application's state, regardless of how many ...

Debugging software is a critical activity, but there are very few software tools that address the problem well. This talk with David Abramson (University of Queensland) introduces data centric debugging and discusses various implementation issues. Importantly, data centric debugging can scale with both the problem size and the machine because the debugging operations themselves have been parallelized. Data centric debugging also addresses another issue - namely that computations will no longer be bit-wise repeatable - a long held tenet of scientific computing. Data centric thinking is statistical, and thus outliers are detected rather than small changes in numeric values.
