Ratings
WGN America had reason to be pleased with the ratings performance for the premiere of its third original drama, “Outsiders,” which drew about 1.1 million “live plus same-day” viewers on Tuesday, according to Nielsen. While not quite at the level of the network’s flagship series “Salem,” which opened to 1.5 million, the same-day tune-in exceeded that of some recent basic cable launches like MTV’s “Shannara Chronicles” and Freeform’s “Recovery Road” and was about equal to the total of Syfy’s “The Magicians.”
When including an encore, “Outsiders” drew 1.93 million viewers on Tuesday night — nearly 20% more than the July 2014 bow of “Manhattan.” Helping WGN America reach a potentially larger audience was the network’s recent deal with Cablevision, which filled a notable gap in the channel’s coverage and expanded its reach to more than 80 million homes.
