A Comcast customer service representative refuses a customer's plea to stop internet service. The employees lack of respect seems to be indicative of the company's culture: it is not about the customer, it is about what Comcast wants. Comcast has also been in the news for its anti-union sentiment, lobbying, outrageous CEO pay and support for SOPA and PIPA, two bills that would allow Comcast to unfairly influence end-user connection speeds.

I've had a lot of people ask why I would stay on hold so long: I'm not the first person I've heard have this happen to. I refused to hang up as I was going to give them any reason to keep my service active. There would be no "well you did hang up before we could get to you," nonsense. I had been attempting to get service technician out from Aug 21st through August 5th. I'd had 3-4 service calls scheduled, all of them no calls no shows, and no reason as to why they can't get the service done.
At this point I was trying to cancel service. I was transferred to the "retention" department at 7:17pm. I'm uploading this video at 10:19pm

Thus, no law is being broken.
You can continue to be wrong as long and as loudly as you like, but you're still wrong.

"Comcast's customer service employees are making a habit of giving cable subscribers bad names. Not long after one man received a bill addressed to "Asshole Brown," another Comcast customer has been insulted by way of the monthly bill. This time, Mary Bauer picked up the title "Super Bitch" after repeatedly calling the company to try and resolve problems with her cable reception. Bauer turned to Comcast for months in hopes of fixing the service disruptions and degraded picture she was experiencing. Thirty-nine technicians visited her home over a six-month period to get things working, and ultimately Bauer said they made things right.
But then, for seemingly no reason, her bills stopped showing up in the mail; with no paper record, Bauer instead started calling the customer service line to inquire about how much she owed each month. "I was little hot and a little angry because I never got good service," Bauer said of those phone calls. And though she was aggravated, Bauer told Chicago's WGN that she steered clear of cursing at or otherwise berating Comcast's representatives. Fast forward to this month, when Bauer finally did receive her monthly physical bill, and she was stunned to see her new nickname. "This is a disgrace to me," Bauer told WGN. "Why are they doing this to me when I pay my bills? I do not deserve this." No customer does, obviously, and Comcast says it's reaching out to her about the embarrassing situation."

This is a series of calls made to Comcast Customer Service on 12/20/2014. I spoke to several different people, promises were made, lies were told, and my situation is still not resolved. I am posting this in the hopes that everyone who has interaction with Comcast will see that they need to RECORD and DOCUMENT all calls & interactions with them. They WILL lie to you, and they do NOT have the best interest of their customers at heart.

Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ: CMCSA, CMCSK) is the largest cable operator, home Internet service provider, and third largest home telephone service provider in the United States, providing cable television, broadband Internet, telephone service and home security [in some areas] to both residential and commercial customers in 40 states and the District of Columbia.
The company is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Comcast also has significant holding in several cable networks (including E! Entertainment Television, Style Network, G4, The Golf Channel and NBC Sports Network), distribution (ThePlatform), and related businesses. Comcast acquired a majority stake in media conglomerate NBCUniversal in January 2011. Comcast has been the subject of criticism for activities including its stance on net neutrality, as well as poor results on customer satisfaction surveys.
Comcast Cable was originally formed as American Cable Systems in 1963 and was founded by Ralph J. Roberts, Daniel Aaron, and Julian A. Brodsky based on a recommendation from Pete Musser, who brought the deal to Ralph Roberts to buy his first cable system in Tupelo, Mississippi. The company was incorporated in Pennsylvania in 1969, under the new name Comcast Corporation. The name "Comcast" is a portmanteau of the words "Communication" and "Broadcast".

Not long after one man received a bill addressed to "Asshole Brown," another Comcast customer has been insulted by way of the monthly bill. This time, Mary Bauer picked up the title "Super Bitch" after repeatedly calling the company to try and resolve problems with her cable reception. Bauer turned to Comcast for months in hopes of fixing the service disruptions and degraded picture she was experiencing. Thirty-nine technicians visited her home over a six-month period to get things working, and ultimately Bauer said they made things right.
But then, for seemingly no reason, her bills stopped showing up in the mail; with no paper record, Bauer instead started calling the customer service line to inquire about how much she owed each month. "I was little hot and a little angry because I never got good service," Bauer said of those phone calls. And though she was aggravated, Bauer told Chicago's WGN that she steered clear of cursing at or otherwise berating Comcast's representatives. Fast forward to this month, when Bauer finally did receive her monthly physical bill, and she was stunned to see her new nickname. "This is a disgrace to me," Bauer told WGN. "Why are they doing this to me when I pay my bills? I do not deserve this." No customer does, obviously, and Comcast says it's reaching out to her about the embarrassing situation."

Our engineers have been working on this and services are starting to be restored. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our customers."
A lot of people are tweeting that they can't reach customer service.
According to Comcast's website, the outage reports began at 7:20 a.m. PT and within an hour they peaked with 446 outage reports.
While some internet outages have been reported, the majority of reports appear to center around cable channels being unavailable.
We checked out Comcast box at KTVU and noticed that the local channels were available, but extended cable channels were not.
Several KTVU staffers reported the same issues with their home cable boxes.
Hundreds of people have also posted about this outage on social media.

The TV and Internet provider's customer service account, @comcastcares, was responding to an onslaught of unhappy customers on Monday.
"[G]et more employees and offer same day help when there's a problem. It's 2016, we aren't sending snail mail for help," one Twitter user wrote.
A map of reported service interruptions from Downdetector, which aggregates outage complaints on social media, showed problems occurred in regions over the country.
A Comcast (CMCSA) spokesperson told CNNMoney in an email, "It looks like it was a number of markets, but not all customers/not all services were impacted."
In an updated statement issued at 2 pm, Comcast said it has "repaired the temporary network interruption that impacted some of our services this morning. Our engineers continue to work on this issue and almost all services have already been restored." It did not say how many customers were affected.
A slew of Twitter and Facebook users said the service hotline wasn't allowing customers to get in touch with a representative.
Most of the complaints said that none of Comcast's high-definition, or HD, TV channels were accessible. Others reported that their home phones lines were beeping and others couldn't access the Internet or their Xfinity, or Internet-based television, accounts. One customer service representative said on Twitter that transmission issues were to blame and the company was "working on redirecting our feeds" and "most areas are back up" as of 12:15 pm ET.
Complaints peaked between 9 am and 12 pm ET on Monday, reaching as many as 17,000 outage reports. The complaints on social media petered out around 4 pm.
Comcast has more than 27 million customers, and 89,000 of those are new cable subscribers the company signed on last quarter. That was its best performance in eight years.

A map of reported service interruptions from Downdetector, which aggregates outage complaints on social media, showed problems occurred in regions over the country.
A Comcast (CMCSA) spokesperson told CNNMoney in an email, "It looks like it was a number of markets, but not all customers/not all services were impacted."
In an updated statement issued at 2 pm, Comcast said it has "repaired the temporary network interruption that impacted some of our services this morning. Our engineers continue to work on this issue and almost all services have already been restored." It did not say how many customers were affected.
A slew of Twitter and Facebook users said the service hotline wasn't allowing customers to get in touch with a representative.
Most of the complaints said that none of Comcast's high-definition, or HD, TV channels were accessible. Others reported that their home phones lines were beeping and others couldn't access the Internet or their Xfinity, or Internet-based television, accounts. One customer service representative said on Twitter that transmission issues were to blame and the company was "working on redirecting our feeds" and "most areas are back up" as of 12:15 pm ET.
Complaints peaked between 9 am and 12 pm ET on Monday, reaching as many as 17,000 outage reports. The complaints on social media petered out around 4 pm.
Comcast has more than 27 million customers, and 89,000 of those are new cable subscribers the company signed on last quarter. That was its best performance in eight years.

Starting in February 2012, we began building a distributed systems library, Sirius, that included an implementation of Paxos. The team working on it did not have extensive distributed systems experience, yet a working implementation was in production just a few short months later. Along the way, we employed some useful tactics and learned some lessons about building, deploying, and evolving distributed systems.
