HOW THE CLOUDS FORM AND WHAT ARE CLOUDS? The first thing you have to ask yourself.
Clouds are made of tiny drops of water or ice crystals that settle on dust particles in the atmosphere. The droplets are so small - a diameter of about a hundredth of a millimeter - that each cubic meter of air will contain 100 million droplets.
Clouds will either be composed of ice or water droplets depending on the height of the cloud and the temperature of the atmosphere. Because the droplets are so small, they can remain in liquid form in temperatures as low as -30 °C. Extremely high clouds at temperatures below -30 °C are composed of ice crystals.
Clouds form when the invisible water vapor in the air condenses into visible water droplets or ice crystals. There is water around us all the time in the form of tiny gas particles, also known as water vapor. There are also tiny particles floating around in the air - such as salt and dust (we used alcohol instead of aerosols in this experiment) - these are called aerosols.
The water vapor and the aerosols (Alcohol in this experiment act as the aerosols) are constantly bumping into each other. When the air is cooled, some of the water vapor sticks to the aerosols when they collide - this is condensation. Eventually, bigger water droplets form around the aerosol particles, and these water droplets start sticking together with other droplets, forming clouds.
Clouds form when the air is saturated and cannot hold any more water vapor, this can happen in two ways:
The amount of water in the air has increased - for example through evaporation - to the point that the air cannot hold any more water.
The air is cooled to its dew point - the point where condensation occurs - and the air is unable to hold any more water.
The warmer the air is, the more water vapor it can hold. Clouds are usually produced through condensation - as the air rises, it will cool and reducing the temperature of the air decreases its ability to hold water vapor so that condensation occurs. The height at which dew point is reached and clouds form is called the condensation level.
In our experiment when we release the pressure the temperature inside of the bottle decreased so a cloud form inside it and the alcohol act as aerosols

My hands are unusually full at the moment (preparing for the documentary project), but just as I was doing my morning imagery check and looking at dozens and dozens of in-place bursts off of the East Coast of Florida, Al Roker started talking about “Invest 99-L.” So… I didn’t feel like letting it go without mention.
In this video I show three days of continuous Water Vapor Generation Bursts in exactly the same area. Since the 25th (through today – the 28th), they have been building “Invest 99-L.” Then they program Al Roker to announce it as a possibility. Once again, it begs the question – who is determining the words that come out of Al Roker’s mouth?
Clearly these meteorologists don’t make their own forecasts, or choose their own talking points. All any NBC meteorologist has said about this “system” in the Gulf for three days, is that there is a “Low Pressure System stuck there.”
Seriously? Is that what an actual meteorologist is going to say about this? If a real meteorologist looked at the same three days of GOES imagery that I am looking at (which needless to say – they have access to), and saw the same hundreds of individual burst of water vapor going off like little flash bulbs, is he or she going to call it a “Stuck Low Pressure System?” Of course not.
Which means, somebody needs to find me a real meteorologist… since that is what all of the supposed meteorologist on TV are calling it. In fact, that is how they have been describing the Gulf, for most of the summer. One, long, stuck Low Pressure System, in exactly the same place. The critical thinking demonstrated by these ‘meteorologists’ - is astonishing.
Then again, Dylan Dryer said recently that she spends two hours every night figuring out what she is going to wear the next day. Don’t get me wrong… she always looks nice. I wonder what Al’s excuse is for never ever actually LOOKING at satellite imagery… like a real ‘meteorologist.’
For the record (as I said in the video), there is almost no chance “Invest 99-L” will hold together to form any kind of cyclone. It will surely dump a great deal of water on the South however. We’ll see what mythology they come up with to explain it tomorrow.
