Foreign reserves plummeted as investors and tourists kept their distance. But hope was restored in June this year when former military General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi was elected President following a pledge to kickstart the economy. Backed by more than 10 billion dollars of aid from Gulf countries President Sisi announced a slew of infrastructure projects while raising taxes and slashing fuel subsidies. Youth make up the majority of unemployed Egyptians. Class and family connections, or “wasta,” play a primary role in the job seeking process, increasing barriers to employment for less connected Egyptians. Since the 2011 revolution, unemployment has risen and economic prospects have gotten worse, especially for youth. Without jobs, young people struggle to transition to adulthood and to participate in their communities.

To call it an economic utopia in today's Cairo may not be much of an exaggeration.
The Egyptian market, as investors are realising, has the ingredients to provide a more than stable plateau for economic development.
The Egyptian economy has made astronomical leaps, with the trade value in the stock market during 1997 being more than that in the period between 1985 and 1996, with more increases expected.
The Egyptian government's privatisation programme, which began in 1996, and strengthened trade relations are considered major contributors to the favourable economic conditions.
The complete reorganisation of Cairo's Stock Exchange and the approval of the sale of shares in state-owned banks are just a few of the changes that have taken place.
Officials are proud of the achievements and expect even more growth in the coming years.

"Inflation has already decreased from 27 per cent to less than one per cent now from G-D-P, inflation reduced from 30 per cent to about five per cent now. It is planning to be four per cent end of this year, and one big advantage for the Egyptian capital market is the stability for exchange. Market, hard currency market, is stable more than five years now."

Egypt is also considered to be an internationally attractive location, being at the epicentre of three continents, which means access to even more markets.

"I look at the geography of Egypt in terms of its accessibility to Asia or to Europe through the Suez Canal... actually all contribute to actually make it a favourable venue for foreign investments. Because foreign investment here is not just for Egypt. Foreign investment here is for export to other countries."

Egypt's goal of developing a market which meets an international standard is quickly becoming a reality, demonstrated by increased foreign interest.
Rather than exporting goods to Egypt, companies such as B-M-W are manufacturing their products here.
The busy economic environment and the many benefits have convinced more investors to consider Egypt.

"The fact is that I was investing in Europe and the States and I was investing in different other places. At the moment I am concentrating on investing in Egypt because of all those things, besides the fact that I'm an Egyptian. But the other fact is that legally I feel more comfortable, stability is very attractive and the return... an emerging market condition. The returns are higher than in any place I know of."

Exciting new additions include the first Egyptian factory to produce insulin, indicating that technological advances are to follow.

The economy of Egypt was highly centralized under President Gamal Abdel Nasser. In the 1990s, a series of International Monetary Fund arrangements, coupled with massive external debt relief resulting from Egypt's participation in the Gulf War coalition, helped Egypt improve its macroeconomic performance. Since 2000, the pace of structural reforms, including fiscal, monetary policies, privatization and new business legislations, helped Egypt move towards a more market-oriented economy and prompted increased foreign investment. The reforms and policies have strengthened macroeconomic annual growth results which averaged 5% annually but the government largely failed to equitably share the wealth and the benefits of growth have failed to trickle down to improve economic conditions for the broader population, especially with the growing problem of unemployment and underemployment among youth under the age of 30 years. A youth protest demanding more political freedoms, fighting corruption and delivering improved living standards forced President Mubarak to step down on February 11, 2011. After the revolution Egypt’s foreign exchange reserves felt from $36 billion in December 2010 to only $16.3 billion in January 2012, also in February 2012 Standard & Poor’s rating agency lowered the Egypt’s credit rating from B+ to B in the long term.

Egypt is thus a transcontinental country, and a major power in Africa, the Mediterranean Basin, the Middle East and the Muslim world. Covering an area of about 1,010,000 square kilometers (390,000 sq mi), Egypt is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Gaza Strip and Israel to the northeast, the Red Sea to the east, Sudan to the south and Libya to the west.
Egypt is one of the most populous countries in Africa and the Middle East. The great majority of its over 81 million people live near the banks of the Nile River, in an area of about 40,000 square kilometers (15,000 sq mi), where the only arable land is found. The large areas of the Sahara Desert are sparsely inhabited. About half of Egypt's residents live in urban areas, with most spread across the densely populated centres of greater Cairo, Alexandria and other major cities in the Nile Delta.

Trump is the son of Fred Trump, a wealthy New York City real-estate developer. He worked for his father's firm, Elizabeth Trump & Son, while attending the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and in 1968 officially joined the company. He was given control of the company in 1971 and renamed it The Trump Organization.
In 2010, Trump expressed an interest in becoming a candidate for President of the United States in the 2012 election. In May 2011, he announced he would not be a candidate, but a few weeks later he said he had not completely ruled out the possibility. In December 2011, Trump was suggested as a possible Vice Presidential selection by Michele Bachmann. Bachmann has since suspended her presidential campaign.

To call it an economic utopia in today's Cairo may not be much of an exaggeration.
The Egyptian market, as investors are realising, has the ingredients to provide a more than stable plateau for economic development.
The Egyptian economy has made astronomical leaps, with the trade value in the stock market during 1997 being more than that in the period between 1985 and 1996, with more increases expected.
The Egyptian government's privatisation programme, which began in 1996, and strengthened trade relations are considered major contributors to the favourable economic conditions.
The complete reorganisation of Cairo's Stock Exchange and the approval of the sale of shares in state-owned banks are just a few of the changes that have taken place.
Officials are proud of the achievements and expect even more growth in the coming years.

"Inflation has already decreased from 27 per cent to less than one per cent now from G-D-P, inflation reduced from 30 per cent to about five per cent now. It is planning to be four per cent end of this year, and one big advantage for the Egyptian capital market is the stability for exchange. To call it an economic utopia in today's Cairo may not be much of an exaggeration.
The Egyptian market, as investors are realising, has the ingredients to provide a more than stable plateau for economic development.
The Egyptian economy has made astronomical leaps, with the trade value in the stock market during 1997 being more than that in the period between 1985 and 1996, with more increases expected.
The Egyptian government's privatisation programme, which began in 1996, and strengthened trade relations are considered major contributors to the favourable economic conditions.
The complete reorganisation of Cairo's Stock Exchange and the approval of the sale of shares in state-owned banks are just a few of the changes that have taken place.
Officials are proud of the achievements and expect even more growth in the coming years.

"Inflation has already decreased from 27 per cent to less than one per cent now from G-D-P, inflation reduced from 30 per cent to about five per cent now. It is planning to be four per cent end of this year, and one big advantage for the Egyptian capital market is the stability for exchange.
