The park was inaugurated in 1990 by then President Violeta Barrios de Chamorro. The concept in and of itself is quite beautiful. Within the park, they interred machines guns, pistols and even a tank in concrete – symbolically burying Nicaragua's bellicose past.

Nicknamed the City of Angels, Los Angeles is a leading world centaer of business, international trade, entertainment, culture, media, fashion, science, sports, technology, and education.
The most important places to visit in Los Angeles are: Los Angeles Downtown (although Los Angeles attractions are spread over a large area, the city is architecturally diverse Downtown is a thriving urban center), Venice Beach (experience the colorful lifestyle of the West Coast on the Venice Beach, Boardwalk. Here, you will find a festive atmosphere, eclectic entertainers and funky shops), Santa Monica Pier (by the scene at Santa Monica Beach, is the famous Pier with a perennial carnival like setting. Draws locals, as well as visitors from around the world), Hollywood (everyone knows about Hollywood and you have got to visit the Hollywood sign, when in Los Angeles), Hollywood Walk of Fame (Hollywood celebrates it's contribution to entertainment through these celebrity stars), Griffith Observatory (located in Griffith Park on Mt. Hollywood, this great public observatory has state of the art facilities and excellent views of Los Angeles), Rodeo Drive (if you are a shopping buff, you will love Rodeo Drive. A glamorous shopping District, Rodeo Drive is full of upscale and fashionable shops), Beverly Hills (take a walk around, you might even spot a celebrity in this neighborhood).
If you want to save time and money, the most important Los Angeles travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

I sit down with my good friend and travel expert Sam from Nomadic Samuel and we rip through a list of "Travel tips that don't suck" which I wrote a few years ago on my blog. We go over each point and discuss it, adding a bit to it. These tips aren't your average generic ones about how to roll a towel or where to to find a cheap flight; it's information that will serve you on all of your travels regardless of where you're going or for how long.
Some of the tips include but are not limited to topics such as money changing, reasons to never carry a guidebook, what to do when lost at night, dealing with exchange rates, strangers asking where you live, paying cash or things, pick pockets, staying safe while traveling, multiple money sources, being proactive, dealing with stray dogs, logging into personal accounts from internet cafes aka keeping passwords safe, laptop locks, be the bigger person, pick company wisely, foreign etiquette, motor vehicles aka renting scooters and the like...
All these tips are taken from the post below:
http://stophavingaboringlife.com/30-travel-tips-that-dont-suck/
Believe it or not, I wrote that post in December of 2009 when I first started out in SE Asia and they are just as relevant when I discuss them with Sam ~5 years later.

In October I road tripped from Banff through some of the National Parks of the USA before flying into Central America.
We met a Dutch man with a mullet who allowed us to join him south on his road trip through Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua.
As always didn't take enough video footage so used photos, saved snaps to make up the rest of my story.
Thanks to everyone who made up the journey and who I met along the way :)

Nicaragua, officially the Republic of Nicaragua (Spanish: República de Nicaragua, is the largest country in the Central American isthmus, bordered by Honduras to the north and Costa Rica to the south. The country is situated between 11 and 14 degrees north of the Equator in the Northern Hemisphere, which places it entirely within the tropics. The Pacific Ocean lies to the west, and the Caribbean Sea to the east. The country's physical geography divides it into three major zones: Pacific lowlands; wet, cooler central highlands; and the Caribbean lowlands. On the Pacific side of the country are the two largest fresh water lakes in Central America—Lake Managua and Lake Nicaragua. Surrounding these lakes and extending to their northwest along the rift valley of the Gulf of Fonseca are fertile lowland plains, with soil highly enriched by ash from nearby volcanoes of the central highlands. Nicaragua's abundance of biologically significant and unique ecosystems contribute to Mesoamerica's designation as a biodiversity hotspot.
The Spanish Empire conquered the region in the 16th century. Nicaragua achieved its independence from Spain in 1821. Since its independence, Nicaragua has undergone periods of political unrest, dictatorship, and fiscal crisis—the most notable causes that led to the Nicaraguan Revolution of the 1960s and 1970s. Prior to the revolution, Nicaragua was one of Central America's wealthiest and most developed countries. The revolutionary conflict, paired with a 1972 earthquake, reversed the country's prior economic standing. Nicaragua is a representative democratic republic, and has experienced economic growth and political stability in recent years. In 1990, Nicaragua elected Violeta Chamorro as its president, making it the first country in Central American history and the second in the Western Hemisphere to democratically elect a female head of state.
The population of Nicaragua, approximately 6 million, is multiethnic. Roughly a quarter of the population lives in the capital city, Managua; it is the second-largest city in Central America. Segments of the population include indigenous native tribes from the Mosquito Coast, Europeans, Africans, Asians, and people of Middle Eastern origin. The main language is Spanish, although native tribes on the eastern coast speak their native languages, such as Miskito, Sumo, and Rama, as well as English Creole. The mixture of cultural traditions has generated substantial diversity in art and literature, particularly the latter given the various literary contributions of Nicaraguan writers, including Rubén Darío, Ernesto Cardenal, and Gioconda Belli. The biological diversity, warm tropical climate, and active volcanoes make Nicaragua an increasingly popular tourist destination.

El Salvador (Spanish: República de El Salvador, literally 'Republic of The Savior') is the smallest and the most densely populated country in Central America. The country's capital city and largest city is San Salvador; Santa Ana and San Miguel are also important cultural and commercial centers in the country as well as Central America. El Salvador borders the Pacific Ocean on the west, and the countries of Guatemala to the north and Honduras to the east. Its easternmost region lies on the coast of the Gulf of Fonseca, opposite Nicaragua. As of 2009, El Salvador had a population of approximately 5,744,113 people, composed predominantly of Mestizos.
The colón was the official currency of El Salvador from 1892 to 2001, when it adopted the U.S. Dollar.
In 2010 El Salvador ranked in the top 10 among Latin American countries in terms of the Human Development Index and in the top 3 in Central America (behind Costa Rica and Panama), due in part to ongoing rapid industrialization. In addition, tropical forests and overall forest cover has expanded by nearly 20 percent from the year 1992 to 2010, making it one of the few countries experiencing reforestation.

Alma Guillermoprieto (born May 27, 1949) is a Mexican journalist who has written extensively about Latin America for the British and American press. Her writings have also been widely disseminated within the Spanish-speaking world.
Guillermoprieto was born and grew up in Mexico City. In her teens, she moved to New York City with her mother where she studied modern dance for several years. From 1962 until 1973, she was a professional dancer.
Her first book, Samba (1990), was an account of a season studying at a samba school in Rio de Janeiro.[1]
In the mid-1970s, she started her career as a journalist for The Guardian, moving later to the Washington Post. In January, 1982, Guillermoprieto, then based in Mexico City, was one of two journalists (the other was Raymond Bonner of The New York Times) who broke the story of the El Mozote massacre in which some 900 villagers at El Mozote, El Salvador, were slaughtered by the Salvadoran army in December, 1981. With great hardship and at great personal risk, she was smuggled by FMLN rebels to visit the site approximately a month after the massacre took place. When the story broke simultaneously in the Post and Times on January 27, 1982, it was dismissed as propaganda by the Reagan administration. Subsequently, however, the details of the massacre as first reported by Guillermoprieto and Bonner were verified, with widespread repercussions.[2]
During much of the subsequent decade, Guillermoprieto was a South America bureau chief for Newsweek.
Guillermoprieto won an Alicia Patterson Journalism Fellowship[3] in 1985 to research and write about changes in rural life under the policies of the European Economic Community.
During the 1990s, she came into her own as a freelance writer, producing long, extensively researched articles on Latin American culture and politics for The New Yorker,[4] and The New York Review of Books,[5] including outstanding pieces on the Colombian civil war, the Shining Path during the Internal conflict in Peru, the aftermath of the "Dirty War" in Argentina, and post-Sandinista Nicaragua. These were bundled in the book The Heart That Bleeds (1994), now considered a classic portrait of the politics and culture of Latin America during the "lost decade" (it was published in Spanish as Al pie de un volcán te escribo — Crónicas latinoamericanas in 1995).
In April 1995, at the request of Gabriel García Márquez, Guillermoprieto taught the inaugural workshop at the Fundación para un Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano, an institute for promoting journalism that was established by García Márquez in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. She has since held seven workshops for young journalists throughout the continent.
That same year, Guillermoprieto also received a MacArthur Fellowship.
A second anthology of articles, Looking for History, was published in 2001, which won a George Polk Award. She also published a collection of articles in Spanish on the Mexican crisis, El año en que no fuimos felices.
In 2004, Guillermoprieto published a memoir, Dancing with Cuba, which revolved on the year she spent living in Cuba in her early twenties. An excerpt of it was published in 2003 in The New Yorker. In the fall of 2008, she joined the faculty of the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Chicago, as a Tinker Visiting Professor.
