I was invited by Naturally Langkawi (Tourism Malaysia) to visit the island of Langkawi to explore and to eat. My wife and I are based in Bangkok, so we woke up early to catch our flight from Bangkok to Langkawi, and we arrived just in time for lunch.
After grabbing our bag from Langkawi airport we jumped in the car and took a drive to Seashells Restaurant, located in laman padi, a rice field. The setting of the restaurant was really nice, with wooden cabanas built over the top of a rice field. We ordered a few different nasi campur dishes, including daging kurma, a beef and coconut milk curry and ayam masak merah, a red chicken curry as well, and we also got some other chicken curry, omelet, and finally both fried fish and Malaysian grilled fish known as ikan bakar. I thought the food was over quite good, and the setting inside the rice field was also very nice.
Lunch accomplished we headed to The Andaman hotel, located on the very northwestern side of Langkawi island. But on the way driving there, we stopped at a local food stall where we enjoyed a few local deep fried snacks and fritters and a donut. I’ll admit, even though I’m not a big sweets fan, that everything was quite tasty - I especially liked the little deep fried banana bread balls.
The Andaman is a very nice hotel, with a private stretch of beach, and so the first thing, after walking around the hotel was to take a swim. After the swim, we ate dinner at Jala Restaurant, a restaurant that’s located at The Andaman hotel.
It was a great day traveling from Bangkok to Langkawi, and thank you to Naturally Langkawi for organizing this trip.

Langkawi has long been called the Permata Kedah, or the Jewel of Kedah. Sky Bridge and Cable Car
Langkawi Sky Bridge is a 125 metre-long curved pedestrian bridge that offers an exhilarating (and sometimes terrifying) view of the verdant Gunung Mat Cincang, Telaja Tujuh waterfalls, and several islets surrounding Langkawi. Set 700 metres above sea level, it is only accessible via the final station of the Langkawi Cable Car ride, which is priced at RM35 for adults and RM25 for children (two to 12 years old). This sturdy bridge can accommodate up to 250 people at a time, and is fitted with double steel railings, an enclosed wire mesh, and two triangular platforms where you can relax and enjoy the cool breeze.
Eagle Square(Dataran Lang)
Dataran Lang, also known as Eagle Square, is a striking 12 metre-tall sculpture of an eagle poised to take flight is displayed atop an elevated platform. Set in Kuah, this prominent landmark is just a five-minute walk from Kuah Jetty, Jetty Point Mall, Taman Lagenda Dalam Langkawi, as well as numerous restaurants and duty-free shops. Dataran Lang also houses beautiful miniature fountains, terraces and bridges, while its close proximity to the sea makes it a popular spot for watching ferries ply across the harbour in the evening.
Gunung Raya
With an altitude of 881 metres, Gunung Raya is hailed as the highest peak in Langkawi. According to local beliefs, the mountain is the cursed form of a giant called Mat Raya, who had once lived on the island. The dense rainforest is home to numerous wildlife such as leaf monkeys, flying foxes, macaque monkeys, squirrels, mountain hawk eagles, white bellied sea eagles, and great hornbills. Gunung Raya is also a popular destination for hiking, but bringing a guide along is highly advisable as the trail can be quite challenging for novices.
Waterfalls
Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls is a natural Langkawi attraction with locals claiming it to be the home of faeries. Set on Langkawi’s western headlands, its name means Seven Wells Waterfalls, referring to a series of seven connected natural pools fed by seven separate waterfalls in Gunung Mat Cincang. Visitors can enjoy a dip in the cool water or brave the steep climb to the top of the waterfalls. Adventure enthusiasts can brave the steep 45-minute long climb to the top of the waterfalls, past huge rocks and through the seven pools, where macaques, hornbills, and squirrels can be spotted along the journey

Klip video berdurasi 1.14 saat itu memaparkan aksi tolak-menolak dan tindakan kasar kedua-dua pihak dipercayai berlaku sejurus bot pelancong yang beroperasi membawa pelancong menjelajah pulau sekitar perairan Tanjung Rhu tiba di pangkalan nelayan di sini.
Keadaan dilihat menjadi semakin tegang apabila seorang rakan pemandu bot terbabit yang cuba campur tangan untuk menyuraikan pergaduhan itu turut memegang sebatang spanar.
Bagaimanapun, spanar itu dirampas oleh seorang individu yang berada atas bot itu bagi mengelak kejadian lebih buruk berlaku.
Klip video itu tersebar di media sosial Facebook dan aplikasi WhatsApp serta mendapat pelbagai komen dan kritikan.
Ketua Polis Daerah Langkawi Superintendan Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang, ketika dihubungi berkata, pihaknya belum menerima sebarang laporan berkaitan kejadian pergaduhan yang menjadi viral.
"Setakat ini, tiada laporan polis dibuat oleh mana-mana pihak yang berkaitan dalam pergaduhan itu," katanya.

Langkawi
Langkawi, officially known as Langkawi the Jewel of Kedah (Malay: Langkawi Permata Kedah) is an archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. The islands are a part of the state of Kedah, which is adjacent to the Thai border. On 15 July 2008, Sultan Abdul Halim of Kedah had consented to the change of name to Langkawi Permata Kedah in conjunction with his Golden Jubilee Celebration. By far the largest of the islands is the eponymous Langkawi Island with a population of some 64,792, the only other inhabited island being nearby Tuba Island. Langkawi is also an administrative district with the town of Kuah as largest town. Langkawi is a duty-free island.
Etymology
The name Langkawi is thought to have existed by the early 15th century, although in the 16th century the island of Langkawi was also marked on maps variously as Langa, Langka, Lansura, and Langapura.
There are many suggestions for the origin of the name of Langkawi. According to one interpretation, Langkawi means island of the reddish-brown eagle in colloquial Malay. The Malay word for eagle is helang - which is shortened to "lang", while kawi is the name of a red stone used as a chalk to mark goods. This interpretation was used to create the landmark sculpture of an eagle as the symbol of Langkawi at Dataran Helang (Eagle Square) in Kuah.

Langkawi: Satu klip video memaparkan pertengkaran dan pergaduhan antara pemandu bot dengan sekumpulan pelancong dipercayai warga Arab di pangkalan nelayan di sini menjadi viral di media sosial sejak semalam. Klip video berdurasi 1.14 saat itu memaparkan aksi tolak-menolak dan tindakan kasar kedua-dua pihak dipercayai berlaku sejurus bot pelancong yang beroperasi membawa pelancong menjelajah pulau sekitar perairan Tanjung Rhu tiba di pangkalan nelayan di sini. Keadaan dilihat menjadi semakin tegang apabila seorang rakan pemandu bot terbabit yang cuba campur tangan untuk menyuraikan pergaduhan itu turut memegang sebatang spanar. Bagaimanapun, spanar itu dirampas oleh seorang individu yang berada atas bot itu bagi mengelak kejadian lebih buruk berlaku. Klip video itu tersebar di media sosial Facebook dan aplikasi WhatsApp serta mendapat pelbagai komen dan kritikan. Ketua Polis Daerah Langkawi Superintendan Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang, ketika dihubungi berkata, pihaknya belum menerima sebarang laporan berkaitan kejadian pergaduhan yang menjadi viral. I was invited by Naturally Langkawi (Tourism Malaysia) to visit the island of Langkawi to explore and to eat. My wife and I are based in Bangkok, so we woke up early to catch our flight from Bangkok to Langkawi, and we arrived just in time for lunch.
After grabbing our bag from Langkawi airport we jumped in the car and took a drive to Seashells Restaurant, located in laman padi, a rice field. The setting of the restaurant was really nice, with wooden cabanas built over the top of a rice field. We ordered a few different nasi campur dishes, including daging kurma, a beef and coconut milk curry and ayam masak merah, a red chicken curry as well, and we also got some other chicken curry, omelet, and finally both fried fish and Malaysian grilled fish known as ikan bakar. I thought the food was over quite good, and the setting inside the rice field was also very nice.
Lunch accomplished we headed to The Andaman hotel, located on the very northwestern side of Langkawi island. But on the way driving there, we stopped at a local food stall where we enjoyed a few local deep fried snacks and fritters and a donut. I’ll admit, even though I’m not a big sweets fan, that everything was quite tasty - I especially liked the little deep fried banana bread balls.
The Andaman is a very nice hotel, with a private stretch of beach, and so the first thing, after walking around the hotel was to take a swim. After the swim, we ate dinner at Jala Restaurant, a restaurant that’s located at The Andaman hotel.
It was a great day traveling from Bangkok to Langkawi, and thank you to Naturally Langkawi for organizing this trip.

Sky Bridge and Cable Car
Langkawi Sky Bridge is a 125 metre-long curved pedestrian bridge that offers an exhilarating (and sometimes terrifying) view of the verdant Gunung Mat Cincang, Telaja Tujuh waterfalls, and several islets surrounding Langkawi. Set 700 metres above sea level, it is only accessible via the final station of the Langkawi Cable Car ride, which is priced at RM35 for adults and RM25 for children (two to 12 years old). This sturdy bridge can accommodate up to 250 people at a time, and is fitted with double steel railings, an enclosed wire mesh, and two triangular platforms where you can relax and enjoy the cool breeze.
Eagle Square(Dataran Lang)
Dataran Lang, also known as Eagle Square, is a striking 12 metre-tall sculpture of an eagle poised to take flight is displayed atop an elevated platform. Set in Kuah, this prominent landmark is just a five-minute walk from Kuah Jetty, Jetty Point Mall, Taman Lagenda Dalam Langkawi, as well as numerous restaurants and duty-free shops. Dataran Lang also houses beautiful miniature fountains, terraces and bridges, while its close proximity to the sea makes it a popular spot for watching ferries ply across the harbour in the evening.
Gunung Raya
With an altitude of 881 metres, Gunung Raya is hailed as the highest peak in Langkawi. According to local beliefs, the mountain is the cursed form of a giant called Mat Raya, who had once lived on the island. The dense rainforest is home to numerous wildlife such as leaf monkeys, flying foxes, macaque monkeys, squirrels, mountain hawk eagles, white bellied sea eagles, and great hornbills. Gunung Raya is also a popular destination for hiking, but bringing a guide along is highly advisable as the trail can be quite challenging for novices.
Waterfalls
Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls is a natural Langkawi attraction with locals claiming it to be the home of faeries. Set on Langkawi’s western headlands, its name means Seven Wells Waterfalls, referring to a series of seven connected natural pools fed by seven separate waterfalls in Gunung Mat Cincang. Visitors can enjoy a dip in the cool water or brave the steep climb to the top of the waterfalls. Adventure enthusiasts can brave the steep 45-minute long climb to the top of the waterfalls, past huge rocks and through the seven pools, where macaques, hornbills, and squirrels can be spotted along the journey

Klip video berdurasi 1.14 saat itu memaparkan aksi tolak-menolak dan tindakan kasar kedua-dua pihak dipercayai berlaku sejurus bot pelancong yang beroperasi membawa pelancong menjelajah pulau sekitar perairan Tanjung Rhu tiba di pangkalan nelayan di sini.
Keadaan dilihat menjadi semakin tegang apabila seorang rakan pemandu bot terbabit yang cuba campur tangan untuk menyuraikan pergaduhan itu turut memegang sebatang spanar.
Bagaimanapun, spanar itu dirampas oleh seorang individu yang berada atas bot itu bagi mengelak kejadian lebih buruk berlaku.
Klip video itu tersebar di media sosial Facebook dan aplikasi WhatsApp serta mendapat pelbagai komen dan kritikan.
Ketua Polis Daerah Langkawi Superintendan Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang, ketika dihubungi berkata, pihaknya belum menerima sebarang laporan berkaitan kejadian pergaduhan yang menjadi viral.

The Langkawi Sky Bridge stands alone, both in terms of its designs and its magnificent view.
The bridge spans 125 meters between 2 mountain tops, 700 meters above sea level.
Its curved walkway offers a vertigo inspiring view straight down of the ravine that it crosses.
Further in the distance are views of the Andaman Sea and Tarutao Island in Thailand.
To get to this high wire bridge, visitors take a cable car up the mountain.
