STORYLINE:
The Iranian petroleum minister said on Monday that the country has discovered a new giant gas field in the
Persian Gulf.
Masoud Mir Kazemi told a news conference in Tehran on Monday that the "available gas reserves in this field are 70 (b) billion cubic metres of gas".
The gas field is located in Hormozgan province, east of Bushehr and west of Bandar Abbas.
The petroleum minister said Iran's current oil reserves are at 150.31 (b) billion barrels and added the figure would increase by the end of Iranian year in March.
Mir Kazemi also said he was not worried about lack of investment in the country's giant oil industry, saying Iran has enough assets to finance oil projects.
He praised Iran's decision to shift away from
US dollars in trading its oil, saying that the county had gained considerable profits thanks to its policy.
