NEW LATEST RECORDING of Surat Al Kahf of Mishary Rashid Al Afasy مشاري العفاسي. Recitation recorded 2013(1434)

Shaykh `Abdul-`Azeez ibn `Abdullaah ibn Baaz (previous Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia) was asked the following question:
Is reading Soorat al-Kahf on Friday or the night before a recommended action?
The Shaykh responded as follows:
Praise be to Allaah.
There are marfoo' ahaadeeth concerning that which support one another and indicate that it is prescribed to read Soorat al-Kahf on Friday.
That was proven to be narrated from Abu Sa'eed al-Khudri and the isnaads stop with him. In an issue like this, it cannot be deemed to be his personal opinion; rather he must have learned it from the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him).
[End Quote]Majmoo' Fataawa Ibn Baaz (25/196).
(1) Narrated by Abu Sa`eed al-Khudri that he said: "Whoever recites Surah al-Kahf on the night before Friday, a light will shine for him - which will stretch between him & the Ka`bah." Recorded by ad-Daarimi. And this hadeeth, was graded "saheeh" by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami`.
(2) "Whoever recites Surah al-Kahf on Friday, a light will shine for him - from that Friday until the next Friday." Recorded by al-Haakim and al-Bayhaqi. And the hadeeth -- Ibn Hajar said concerning it: "It is a hasan hadeeth." And he also said: "And it is the strongest of what has been narrated regarding the Recitation of Surah al-Kahf." And Shaykh al-Albaani also graded it "saheeh".
(3) Narrated from Ibn `Umar that he said: The Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever recites Surah al-Kahf on Friday, a light will shine forth for him from beneath his feet, to the clouds of the sky. And it will shine for him on the Day of Judgment. And all (the sins he committed) between the 2 Jumu`ahs will be forgiven." Recorded in At-Targheeb wat-Tarheeb. Al-Mundhiree said: "This was recorded by Abu Bakr Ibn Mardooyah in his Tafseer, with a chain of narration that has no problem with it." Laa ba`sa bihi
And the Surah should be recited on the night before Jumu`ah or during the Day of Jumu`ah. And the 'Night of Jumu`ah' begins from the setting of the sun on Thursday. And the "Day of Jumu`ah" ends with the setting of the sun on Friday.
* Therefore, the time for reciting Surah al-Kahf extends from the setting of the sun on Thursday to the setting of the sun on Friday. Imaam al-Munaawi said: "Al-Haafizh Ibn Hajar said: 'So some of the narrations mention the day of Jumu`ah, and other narrations mention the night of Jumu`ah, and the agreed meaning is: The day of Friday & the night before (or Thursday night and the day after).' " And al-Munaawi also said: "Therefore, it is recommended to recite this Surah on the day of Jumu`ah & also the night before - as Imaam Ash-Shaafi`ee (may Allah be pleased with him) explained."

Question:
What is the ruling on reciting Surah Al-Kahf on Friday during the day and night?
Answer:
The recitation of Surah Al-Kahf on Friday is a preferred act and there is merit in it ... and there is no difference between a person reciting it from the Book, or by heart ... and the day, according to the Islamic law, is from the time of sunrise until sunset ... and based upon this, if a person recites it after the Friday prayer, he will receive the reward for it.

Dr. Abdullaah al-Fawzaan did a 48 page research on just this issue of reciting surah al-Kahf on Fridays, and after mentioning the many various asaaneed for this hadeeth, and the statements of the salaf such as Imam ash-Shaafi'ee, Imam Ahmad, Ibn Qudaamah, an-Nawawi, as-Sanaani, and ibn Taymiyyah, who all said that it is highly recommended to recite surah al-Kahf on Fridays, he said, "Most of ahlul-ilm say that it is highly recommended to recite surah al-Kahf on Fridays and I have not came across any differences of opinion from them that would negate this."

Surat, previously known as Suryapur, is a commercial city of the Indian state of Gujarat. It is also administrative capital of Surat district and one of the fastest growing cities in India. The city proper is the third cleanest city in India. Surat is Gujarat's second largest city and India's 8th most populated city (in terms of Population in Municipal Corporation area of the City) with a population of 4.5 million. Surat ranks fourth in a global study of fastest developing cities conducted by The City Mayors Foundation, an international think tank on urban affairs. It is the fastest growing Indian city in terms of economic prosperity. The city registered an annualised GDP growth rate of 11.5 per cent over the seven fiscal years between 2001 and 2008, according to data compiled by the economic research firm Indicus Analytics. UK-based charity, The Ecological Sequestration Trust (TEST), has selected Surat as one of the three cities in the world, to be developed as "global cities."
The city is located 306 km south of state capital Gandhinagar, and is situated on the left bank of the Tapti River (Tapi), the centre being around 22 km (14 mi) from its mouth. A moat divides the older parts of the city, with its narrow streets and handsome houses, and the newer suburbs. The city is largely recognised for its textile and diamond businesses. It is also known as the diamond capital of the world and the textile capital/Manchester textile city of India, a distinction it took over from Ahmedabad. It is also known as the "Embroidery capital of India" with the highest number of embroidery machines than any other city. 92% of the world's diamonds are cut and polished in Surat. It has one of the highest GDP growth rates in India at 11.5% as of 2008. Surat was the primary port of India during the Mughal period, a distinction it lost to Bombay during the late 17th century as the East India Company grew.

Shaykh `Abdul-`Azeez ibn `Abdullaah ibn Baaz (previous Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia) was asked the following question:
Is reading Soorat al-Kahf on Friday or the night before a recommended action?
The Shaykh responded as follows:
Praise be to Allaah.
There are marfoo' ahaadeeth concerning that which support one another and indicate that it is prescribed to read Soorat al-Kahf on Friday.
That was proven to be narrated from Abu Sa'eed al-Khudri and the isnaads stop with him. In an issue like this, it cannot be deemed to be his personal opinion; rather he must have learned it from the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him).
[End Quote]Majmoo' Fataawa Ibn Baaz (25/196).
(1) Narrated by Abu Sa`eed al-Khudri that he said: "Whoever recites Surah al-Kahf on the night before Friday, a light will shine for him - which will stretch between him & the Ka`bah." Recorded by ad-Daarimi. And this hadeeth, was graded "saheeh" by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami`.
(2) "Whoever recites Surah al-Kahf on Friday, a light will shine for him - from that Friday until the next Friday." Recorded by al-Haakim and al-Bayhaqi. And the hadeeth -- Ibn Hajar said concerning it: "It is a hasan hadeeth." And he also said: "And it is the strongest of what has been narrated regarding the Recitation of Surah al-Kahf." And Shaykh al-Albaani also graded it "saheeh".
(3) Narrated from Ibn `Umar that he said: The Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever recites Surah al-Kahf on Friday, a light will shine forth for him from beneath his feet, to the clouds of the sky. And it will shine for him on the Day of Judgment. And all (the sins he committed) between the 2 Jumu`ahs will be forgiven." Recorded in At-Targheeb wat-Tarheeb. Al-Mundhiree said: "This was recorded by Abu Bakr Ibn Mardooyah in his Tafseer, with a chain of narration that has no problem with it." Laa ba`sa bihi
And the Surah should be recited on the night before Jumu`ah or during the Day of Jumu`ah. And the 'Night of Jumu`ah' begins from the setting of the sun on Thursday. And the "Day of Jumu`ah" ends with the setting of the sun on Friday.
* Therefore, the time for reciting Surah al-Kahf extends from the setting of the sun on Thursday to the setting of the sun on Friday. Imaam al-Munaawi said: "Al-Haafizh Ibn Hajar said: 'So some of the narrations mention the day of Jumu`ah, and other narrations mention the night of Jumu`ah, and the agreed meaning is: The day of Friday & the night before (or Thursday night and the day after).' " And al-Munaawi also said: "Therefore, it is recommended to recite this Surah on the day of Jumu`ah & also the night before - as Imaam Ash-Shaafi`ee (may Allah be pleased with him) explained."

What is the ruling on reciting Surah Al-Kahf on Friday during the day and night?
Answer:
The recitation of Surah Al-Kahf on Friday is a preferred act and there is merit in it ... and there is no difference between a person reciting it from the Book, or by heart ... and the day, according to the Islamic law, is from the time of sunrise until sunset ... and based upon this, if a person recites it after the Friday prayer, he will receive the reward for it.

Dr. Abdullaah al-Fawzaan did a 48 page research on just this issue of reciting surah al-Kahf on Fridays, and after mentioning the many various asaaneed for this hadeeth, and the statements of the salaf such as Imam ash-Shaafi'ee, Imam Ahmad, Ibn Qudaamah, an-Nawawi, as-Sanaani, and ibn Taymiyyah, who all said that it is highly recommended to recite surah al-Kahf on Fridays, he said, "Most of ahlul-ilm say that it is highly recommended to recite surah al-Kahf on Fridays and I have not came across any differences of opinion from them that would negate this."

The English cemetery which is situated outside the city-wall (which was known as 'Alampanah') near the Katargam Gate reminds the visitor eloquently of many a famous names in the historical narratives of the English factory at Surat who were the significant persons in the political history of the city. As per the "Revised List of Tombs and Monuments of Historical or Archaeological Interest in Bombay and other Parts of the Presidency" published in 1912 there were about 19 tombs in the English cemetery during that time, many of which are still existing. In addition to these, there is a large number of simpler structures, and inscription slabs-over the graves of less important persons

2013.9.21-22: My husband and I always took plane rides to get from Bangkok to other destinations in Thailand during our past vacations. It is convenient, but there is nothing unique about it. During our last vacation to Koh Samui, we decided to ride an overnight train to Koh Samui. Well, it isn't exactly train ride all the way to Koh Samui. As you all know, Koh Samui is an island.
Travel time:
1) Bangkok on a rail involves 12 hours of train ride to Surat Thani (southern province, Thailand), 2) 2~3 hours of bus ride to Seatran Ferry Docks, and 3) 1-1.5 hour ferry ride. 4) Then, when we finally arrived Koh Samui-Nathon Pier, we took mini van to our hotel near ChaWeng beach, Koh Samui.
1st class sleeper train car/ Food/ Toilet/ Service:
When we stepped into the cabin, we were generally satisfied with the cleanliness of the cabin and the restrooms. There were two restrooms in the 1st class car (there's an attendant sitting between 1st class & 2nd class cars to make sure the passengers use the facility they pay per train ticket). There were several attendants to take your snack and dinner order, make up your bed and wake you up as the train approach the destination. You can get meals for about 150 to 200 Baht and 150 Baht for a large bottle (750 ml) Chang beer. My husband made a mistake and ordered two at once assuming the beer came in small bottles. Regular Chang is 6.4% alcohol, so he had a really good beer buzz by the end of his dinner in the train. oh well, it helped him sleep better! XD
Sleep quality:
Though the bed was big enough and not too bad, my husband could not get comfortable sleep as the train was constantly rocking (I had no problem) and the cabin was too cold (both of us felt like in a refrigerator). The AC was blowing arctic cold air viciously and there is no way to turn it down. Through the train ride, he was half asleep and half awake.
After train, how to go to Koh Samui/ Transportation fee:
At about 6 AM, the train unloaded us at Surat Thani Train Station. Conveniently, there was a greeter from the travel agency to guide us to the restaurant, where we waited for the bus. We could eat, wash up and ready ourselves for a round of land-sea transportation.
The bus ride was not comfortable, as the bus was an old one with very small seats. On the other hand, the ferry ride was comfortable in an air conditioned passenger compartment. We bought a van ride ticket from Na Thon Pier to our resort in Koh Samui for 200 Baht per person at the restaurant where we waited for the bus. I thought it was a smart move at the time as I did not see much transportation available at Na Thon Pier then. Taxis from Na Thon to Chaweng usually costs 600 to 700 Baht.
Reminder:
1) book your 1st sleeper class train car early due to limited cabins. We got our ticket through Thailandtrainticket.com as recommended by seat61.com 1-1.5 month ahead of travel. The total cost for our transit to Koh Samui was about 1,500 Baht per person. There were some confusion as to which train they booked for us, but we ended up taking earlier 5 PM train. We got 1st class seats, and two seat made up a cabin, so we got a cabin for ourselves.
2) bring a thick jacket to sleep at night as the 1st sleeper air condition is VERY strong.
Tips:
1) Thailand train is usually not on time for departure.well, since no one guarantees when it takes off, I still suggest you to be there on time. You could walk around, take some photos and take some rest.
2) recommend using 1st class over 2nd class, if you can afford 300 to 400 Baht. Both 1st & 2nd class are sleeper train car, but 1st class is a private cabin with a sink for hands/face wash and you could switch light off when sleep. 1st class door has a very secure door lock.
2nd class is open sleeper and they leave lights all night in the 2nd class cars for security and the restrooms get dirty quickly as they are shared with way more people.
3) suggest to take the fair offer from the coordinator agent at Surat Thani for the mini van ride to collect you at Nathon Pier to your destination hotel at Koh Samui. 200 baht/person. Per my personal experience, it seems not easy to get a taxi at Nathon Pier, taxi would be more expensive unless 4 ppl shared (600-700 baht/car). I didn't see many truck bus (Songthaew) either. If ride a Songthaew, of course it's cheaper but it may be not as comfortable because the road condition sometimes not so good.
Overall, the journey was memorable experience as we do not get to ride train at all where we live.

I normally don’t like to travel quickly, but this trip to Koh Samui was a quick one - the reason is because we already had some family commitments back in Bangkok, and because we’re getting ready to take a trip to Taiwan and on the the Philippines very soon. So we only ended up staying in Samui for 4 nights, 5 days, and then we needed to get back home. We started the day off at our hotel, Lazy Days Samui Beach Resort, by first having breakfast, then doing some work in the morning.
Towards the middle of the morning, we packed our bags, and walked out to the main road to catch a public transportation truck back to Nathon, the pier town in order to catch a ferry back to the mainland part of Surat Thani. We waited for about 10 minutes until our ride came, and we arrived back to Nathon at about lunch time and we were both hungry. There were some restaurants, but we didn’t have much time explore and choose a good place, so we stopped at a place right along the road that looked alright. We had a number of different curries and dishes and Ying had some soup. The food was alright, but nothing too special.
After lunch we headed off to the Seatran ferry office on the pier to buy our tickets, but to our disappointment, the office said they couldn’t sell us tickets from the ferry to the bus to the airport. Instead we had to walk all the way back into town to a place called Panthip Travel to buy the ferry bus combination tickets which cost 400 THB. We had about an hour, so stopped to have a coffee and proceeded.
That was all for Koh Samui, we got on the Seatran ferry which took us to a bus where we went back to Surat Thani International Airport and then caught our flight back to Bangkok.
