The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) is one of the largest animal welfare and conservation charities in the world.
The group's declared mission is to "rescue and protect animals around the world."
The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) was founded by a small group of people in 1969, to stop the commercial hunt for seal pups in Canada. One of IFAW's founders, and possibly its most well known member, is Brian Davies.
With offices in over a dozen countries, and projects in more than 40 IFAW is one of the largest animal welfare organisations in the world.
Animal welfare is the well-being of animals. The standards of "good" animal welfare vary considerably between different contexts. These standards are under constant review and are debated, created and revised by animal welfare groups, legislators and academics worldwide.Animal welfare science uses various measures, such as longevity, disease, immunosuppression, behavior, physiology, and reproduction, although there is debate about which of these indicators provide the best information.
Concern for animal welfare is often based on the belief that non-human animals are sentient and that consideration should be given to their well-being or suffering, especially when they are under the care of humans. These concerns can include how animals are slaughtered for food, how they are used in scientific research, how they are kept (as pets, in zoos, farms, circuses, etc.), and how human activities affect the welfare and survival of wild species.
Animal welfare was a concern of some ancient civilizations but began to take a larger place in Western public policy in 19th-century Great Britain. In the 21st century, it is a significant focus of interest in science, ethics, and animal welfare organizations.

Join Brant Backlund and Mike Booth in Beijing as they document The International Fund for Animal Welfare's (IFAW) rescue, rehabilitation, and release of the birds of prey that inhabit the area. IFAW rescues wild birds of prey in and around Beijing, China at the Beijing Raptor Rescue Center (BRRC). Beijing is in the middle of a large migration route, where the city’s urbanization and subsequent loss of habitat puts many birds at risk for injury or illness. Additionally, many birds are harmed from illegal capture and trade. The BRRC is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing birds of prey back into the wild to help these populations continue to thrive. Furthermore, the BRRC works to educate both public citizens and policymakers about the importance of wildlife protection and the...

This short film explores the highs and lows of one of the most daring animal rescues in history. For the first time ever, a group of endangered forest elephants were captured and rescued from certain death in Côte d'Ivoire. Over the May bank holiday, hundreds of hawksbill turtles came ashore on the beach at Bournemouth, England. The life-size card models were there to raise awareness of the slaughter of endangered turtles, killed so their shells can be made into souvenirs for tourists. The stunt was organized by the International Fund for Animal Welfare, to create publicity about the slaughter, and to warn holiday makers not to buy seemingly harmless combs, necklaces and other trinkets when they travel this year.

Bhutan is a conservation giant among nations, and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and Wildlife Trust of India are proud to have partnered with Bhutan for more than five years to protect its tigers and other wildlife from poaching, illegal trafficking and human-wildlife conflict. Over the past five years, IFAW and WTI have trained and equipped more than 800 frontline staff from 13 different protected areas and territorial divisions, who are now better able to patrol the rugged terrain, address and reduce human-wildlife conflict and detect and deter poachers. We have also trained more than 250 enrollment officers to detect wildlife traffickers across Bhutan. For more information, please visit www.ifaw.org .

In this Earth Talk at Schumacher College, Jordi Casamitjana explains how foxes, deer, hares and badgers are still persecuted in the UK and how IFAW’s team is trying to protect them. IFAW is an international animal protection organisation with 15 offices around the world and projects in more than 40 countries. In addition to global campaigns on issues such as whaling, tiger protection, seal hunting, wildlife trade, elephants and emergency relief, IFAW’s regional offices also develop their own campaigns on local issues. IFAW’s office in the UK has been focusing on the protection of British mammals which sadly are still persecuted, and this led to two of its current campaigns: the protection of hunted mammals by ensuring that the hunting ban remains in place and is properly enforced, and th...

Hit me like a hammer to my head
We thrashed in bed baby
Drove a truck right through my life
Struck me like a knife
There's a finger in my pie, someone else's guy
Caught you with your pants down, fingers in the till
Caught you stealing something, my last thrill
(1) Chorus:
At war with the world as this life unfurls
Ooh, better get ready
At war with the world, as this life unfurls
Better get ready
Living like a hound dog who's not fed
Life's one big bed baby
From the trash right on the street and anyone you meet
Trying to make the first glance and I doubt you will last
Caught you with your pants down fingers in the till
I guess I've swallowed life's hardest pill
