As the Bihar election enters the critical third phase, it has increasingly become a direct confrontation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Training his guns directly at the PM, Nitish Kumar accused him of not speaking directly or decisively on the lynching of a man in Uttar Pradesh's Dadri over beef rumours. Speaking to NDTV in Patna, Mr Kumar accused PM Modi of "speaking from behind a purdah" when it came to hate politics. He said that the country's image had been badly dented due to the "rising intolerance", but the Prime Minister was "hiding behind the President". This, the chief minister said, was "laughable". And with dal prices skyrocketing, Nitish Kumar took a swipe at PM Modi saying PM can keep 'acche din' to himself and give us back 'puraane din'.

After Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan said that the controversy arising out of his comments on the intolerance debate, made in an interview to NDTV, had at least partially hit collections of his new film 'Dilwale', his colleague Priyanka Chopra has said that actors were soft targets who were attacked right before the release of their films. Speaking on NDTV's Town Hall, Ms Chopra, whose 'Bajirao Mastani' also released to success and critical acclaim last week, said that she felt she had to speak up in support of all artistes and actors in general. She said that films are sometimes held to ransom and actors are made to pay the price simply for having an opinion.
