AT&T; high-end business marketing film for PBX (Private Branch eXchange) switchboards. The film stars Audrey Meadows & Ruta Lee, the cinematographer was Hal Mohr (A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Phantom of the Opera, Rancho Notorious...).
Two different kinds are shown:
Audrey Meadows' PBX is a more traditional cord switchboard. The operator answers and connects calls by plugging cords into jacks.
Ruta Lee's PBX is the latest (in 1965) cordless switchboard. Calls are processed by pressing a sequence of buttons, instead of using cords and jacks.
Public domain film from the Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied.
The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_telephone_system#Private_branch_exchange
A private branch exchange (PBX) is a telephone exchange or switching system that serves a private organization and performs concentration of central office lines or trunks and provides intercommunication between a large number of telephone stations in the organization. The central office lines provide connections to the public switched telephone network and the concentration aspect of a PBX permits the shared use of these lines between all stations in the organization. The intercommunication aspect allows two or more stations to establish telephone or conferencing calls between them without using the central office equipment.
Each PBX-connected station, such as a telephone set, a fax machine, or a computer modem, is often referred to as an extension and has a designated extension telephone number that may or may not be mapped automatically to the numbering plan of the central office and the telephone number block allocated to the PBX.
Initially, the primary advantage of a PBX was the cost savings for internal phone calls: handling the circuit switching locally reduced charges for telephone service via the central office lines. As PBX systems gained popularity, they were equipped with services that were not available in the public network, such as hunt groups, call forwarding, and extension dialing. In the 1960s a simulated PBX known as Centrex provided similar features from the central telephone exchange.
A PBX is differentiated from a key telephone system (KTS) in that users of a key system manually select their own outgoing lines on special telephone sets that control buttons for this purpose, while PBXs select the outgoing line automatically or, formerly, by an operator. The telephone sets connected to a PBX do not normally have special keys for central office line control, but it is not uncommon for key systems to be connected to a PBX to extend its services.
A PBX, in contrast to a key system, employs an organizational numbering plan for its stations. In addition, a dial plan determines whether additional digit sequences must be prefixed when dialing to obtain access to a central office trunk. Modern number analysis systems permit users to dial internal and external telephone numbers without special codes to distinguish the intended destination.
History
The term PBX was first applied when switchboard operators managed company switchboards manually using cord circuits. As automated electromechanical switches and later electronic switching systems gradually replaced the manual systems, the terms private automatic branch exchange (PABX) and private manual branch exchange (PMBX) were used to differentiate them. Solid state digital systems were sometimes referred to as electronic private automatic branch exchanges (EPABX). Today, the term PBX is by far the most widely recognized. The acronym is now applied to all types of complex, in-house telephony switching systems.
Two significant developments during the 1990s led to new types of PBX systems. One was the massive growth of data networks and increased public understanding of packet switching. Companies needed packet switched networks for data, so using them for telephone calls was tempting, and the availability of the Internet as a global delivery system made packet switched communications even more attractive. These factors led to the development of the voice over IP PBX, or IP-PBX.
The other trend was the idea of focusing on core competence. PBX services had always been hard to arrange for smaller companies, and many companies realized that handling their own telephony was not their core competence. These considerations gave rise to the concept of the hosted PBX...

http://www.mentalradio.net presents a fine example of how humor has an uplifting effect on our everyday outlook. We submit for your consideration, a moment of "Dave's World."In this moment, Kenny's (Shadoe Stevens) mother, played by the legendary Audrey Meadows, thinks he's gay. Audrew Meadows is best known for playing Jackie Gleason's wife Alice Kramden in the legendary TV comedy series, "The Honeymooners," and therefore, we grovel at her feet.
Her two appearances as Kenny's mother on Dave's World were the last work she did. She died in 1996 and we all miss her.
Dave's World was a sitcom on CBS from 1993 to 1997 based on the writing of Miami Herald columnist Dave Barry, starred Harry Anderson (as Dave), DeLane Matthews, Zane Carney, Andrew Ducote, Meshach Taylor, J.C. Wendel, Patrick Warburton, and Shadoe Stevens (as Dave's best friend and editor, Kenny). The first two seasons are available on DVD.

PASSWORD - Jayne Meadows & Steve Allen (Nov 19, 1964)
This was scheduled to post in May-- posting early in tribute to the great Jayne Meadows, who just passed away. I always think it's best to remember these folks the way they'd want to be remembered: for the joy they brought audiences throughout their careers, rather than just with sadness at their passing.
Many thanks to epaddon for providing his copy of this video.

THE DEAN MARTIN CELEBRITY ROAST: "Jackie Gleason".
When Dean Martin put together the celebrety panel for his roast of Jackie Gleason in 1975 he did it right.Cast memberbers from Gleason's seminal TV Series "The Honeymooners' were on hand, including Ralph Kramden's 'first' TV wife Audrey Meadows, and Art Carney, appearing in character as his best friend Ed Norton. Also on hand were Sheila MacRae, the second Mrs. Kranden in the late Sixties 'Jackie Gleason Show', and Jane Kean, the second Mrs. Norton also from that series. The only one missing that I would like to have seen was Joyce Randolph, the original Trixie Norton from 'The Honeymooners'.
Starring - Man of the Hour - Jackie Gleason; With guest stars, Milton Berle, Foster Brooks, Cid Ceasar, Art Carney, Phyllis Diller, Frank Gorshin, Sandy Herdt, Jane Kean, Gene Kelly, Sheila MacRae, Dean Martin, Audrey Meadows, Nipsey Russell, and Danny Thomas. Directed by Gregg Garrison. Released February 27, 1975.

THE BEGINNING OF THIS SHOW HAS STATIC BUT AFTER 2:18 almost perfect. I probably got this off tape just in time, before the whole tape starts doing that!
Following is a list of the stars &/or celebrities that I spotted during this show, AS THEY APPEAR. Can you identify those where I have blanks? Let me know and I'll add them. Thanks. Also, would be fun to hear from anyone who was in The International Children's Choir!
For those who don't know, if you click on the number to the left of performer below, YT will take you right to that spot. I didn't know this when I first got on YT. I thought it just told you where they were and you had to go back and forth with your mouse looking for that number on the bar under the video!!!

Once again You have made my day ________! I could cry....thanks so much for taking the effort to re-post this. You know...I guess we all take for granted sometimes how a simple gesture can make another persons day, week, month :) or year. Time after time I have watched this & will continue to do so. It represented a much simpler time and more decent America, both politically and entertainment wise, and I guess that is why I keep watching it. Once again my heartfelt thanks for uploading.

Jayne Meadows (September 27, 1919 – April 26, 2015), also known as Jayne Meadows-Allen, was an American stage, film and television actress, as well as an author and lecturer. She was nominated for three Emmy Awards during her career and was the elder sister of actress Audrey Meadows.
Jayne Meadows was born as Jane Meadows Cotter in 1919 in Wuchang, one of 3 sections of Wuhan, China in the Hubei Province, to Episcopal missionary parents, the Rev. Francis James Meadows Cotter and his wife, the former Ida Miller Taylor, who had married in 1915. Meadows was the older sister of the late actress Audrey Meadows. She also had two brothers (both deceased). The family in the early 1930s returned to their home in Sharon, Connecticut. Meadows' most famous movies include: Undercurrent (with Katharine Hepburn), Song of the Thin Man (with William Powell and Myrna Loy), David and Bathsheba (with Gregory Peck, Susan Hayward and Raymond Massey), Lady in the Lake (with Robert Montgomery and Audrey Totter), Enchantment (with David Niven and Teresa Wright). Later that year Columnist Louella Parsons gave Meadows her Cosmopolitan Award for the Finest Dramatic Performance of 1949 for Enchantment. Many years later, she appeared in City Slickers (as the voice of Billy Crystal's oversolicitous mother). Among her earliest television appearances, Meadows played reporter Helen Brady in a 1953 episode of Suspense opposite Walter Matthau titled, "F.O.B. Vienna". She was a regular panelist on the original version of I've Got a Secret and an occasional panelist on What's My Line?, the latter alongside husband Steve Allen. She also appeared on the NBC interview program Here's Hollywood. During the early days of the burgeoning live entertainment scene in Las Vegas, the Allens occasionally worked together as an act. Prior to Allen's death in 2000, the couple made several television appearances together; in 1998 they played an argumentative elderly couple in an episode of Homicide: Life on the Street in which Allen's character accidentally shoots a man in the act of committing suicide by plunging from the roof of the elderly couple's building. In 1999, the couple made their last joint TV appearance (again playing a couple) in the all-star episode of the Dick Van Dyke series Diagnosis: Murder, entitled "The Roast", which marked Steve Allen's final screen appearance. She was married to Steve Allen from 1954 until his death in 2000. They had one son, Bill. Allen's three children from his first marriage (Stephen Jr., Brian and David) are her stepchildren. Meadows remained active until 2009 when she fell and fractured her hip. Her last public appearance was in August 2009 at the Early TV Memories First-Class Commemorative Stamp Dedication Ceremony. She died on April 26, 2015 in Encino, California at the age of 95.
