Judd Trump vs Ronnie O'Sullivan | Session 2 | FINAL | 2015 World Grand Prix Snooker
A major new snooker tournament - the World Grand Prix - will be staged in Llandudno early next year.
The event will take place at Venue Cymru in Llandudno on the north coast of Wales from March 16th to 22nd, 2015.
Created by World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn, this new tournament will bring together 32 of the best players on the planet to compete for a top prize of £100,000. It will be televised live on ITV4 with a total prize fund of £300,000.
The top 32 players on a one-year ranking system running from the 2014 World Championship to the 2015 Gdynia Open will qualify for the tournament.
Hearn said: "This will be the biggest snooker event ever staged in North Wales and we are delighted to bring the sport to an area where we know we will get massive support. It's an incredible opportunity for the people in Llandudno and the surrounding area to see the very best players competing for a prestigious new crown - and a huge top prize.
"Tickets will be going on sale in July and the message is BOOK THEM FAST as they will sell out rapidly and we want to make this event a great success. I know the Venue Cymru is a superb arena and the atmosphere is going to be sizzling.
"ITV are building their support for snooker so for those who can't make it to the venue this is a valuable addition to our free-to-air coverage in the UK."
World Snooker is delighted to announce 888.com as the title sponsor of the new World Grand Prix, which takes place next week in North Wales.
The 888.com World Grand Prix at Venue Cymru in Llandudno will run from March 16 to 22, televised by ITV4. Ronnie O'Sullivan, Mark Selby, Neil Robertson, Ding Junhui, Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy will be among the green baize stars chasing the £100,000 top prize.
The field is comprised of 32 players who qualified from a unique ranking list which ran from the 2014 World Championship to the 2015 Gdynia Open.
World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn said: "We are thrilled to welcome 888.com on board for this fantastic new tournament. They have shown tremendous support for snooker in the past and we are pleased to continue to build that relationship.
"This tournament is a wonderful addition to the calendar as we will see the very best players in the world competing for the inaugural title, in Llandudno where we know there is a great support for snooker. It's going to be a superb week for fans in the arena and viewers at home."

The tournament began as a ranking tournament in 1992 initially in February after the Masters, but later took the spot of the Classic in January. The event was sponsored by Regal until 2003 (known as the Regal Welsh Open), but UK restrictions on tobacco advertising meant that it was without a sponsor until 2009.[3] The tournament was sponsored by Totesport.com in 2010,[4] by Wyldecrest Park Homes in 2011,[5] by 888真人 in 2012,[6] and is currently sponsored by BetVictor.[7][8]
In 1996 at the age of 17 years and 111 days Paul Hunter reached the semi-finals and became the youngest player to reach this stage of a ranking tournament.[3] Stephen Hendry, John Higgins and Ronnie O'Sullivan are the only players to win the tournament three times.[9][10]
Like the Welsh Professional Championship, it was played at the Newport Centre in Newport, before moving to the Cardiff International Arena in 1999. It was moved back to Newport in 2005,[3] where it remained until 2014.[11] In January 2014, World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn announced that the 2014 tournament would be the last held in Newport, and that he would open negotiations to move the event to a larger venue, most likely in Cardiff.[12] In June 2014, it was then announced that the 2015 event will be held at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff.[13] The tournament currently takes place after the German Masters, and is broadcast by BBC Wales, Eurosport, CCTV, SMG, Now TV and Showtime Arabia.
There have been five maximum breaks in the history of the tournament. The first was made by Ronnie O'Sullivan in 1999 against James Wattana. The second was made at the qualifying stage of the 2000 event by Barry Pinches against Joe Johnson. The third was made by Andrew Higginson in 2007 against Ali Carter. The fourth 147 was made in 2011 by Hendry against Stephen Maguire.[14] This was Hendry's 10th 147 break and with this he equalled the record for most maximums with Ronnie O'Sullivan.[15] He also became the oldest player to compile a maximum break at the age of 42 years and 35 days.[16] The fifth was made by O'Sullivan in 2014 against Ding Junhui. This was O'Sullivan's 12th 147 break and with it he set the record for most maximums.[2]

The Australian Goldfields Open is the first world ranking event of the 2015/16 season. Staged in Bendigo in the beautiful Goldfields region of Victoria, around three hours drive from Melbourne, the tournament represents part of World Snooker’s ambition to spread the sport of snooker across the globe. The inaugural event in 2011, won by Stuart Bingham, was the first ever world ranking tournament to be staged in Australia. Hosted at Bendigo Stadium, the week-long event draws large crowds, many of them keen to support home favourite Neil Robertson, who has reached the final twice. Judd Trump won the title in 2014, beating Robertson in the final.

World Snooker’s prestigious World Cup 2015 will be held in the city of Wuxi in China. 24 teams will be chasing glory for their nation and the US200,000 winner’s prize.
The snooker World Cup has a long history dating back to 1979. Previous winners include Wales, England, Canada, Ireland, Scotland and the current holders China.
The 2015 World Cup will run from June 15 to 21 in Wuxi in China’s Jiangsu Province.
Each of the 24 teams will consist of two players, and there will be 23 nations represented, with host nation China allowed to enter two teams.
Nations in line to compete include Australia, Belgium, Brazil, China, England, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Ireland, Malaysia, Malta, Norway, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Thailand and Wales. The full contingent of nations competing will be published following the completion of World Snooker’s Q-School in May.
Selection of the players will be based on their world ranking at the end of the 2015 World Championship.
The 24 teams will be divided into four groups of six teams, with each team to play five matches in the group stages. The top two teams in each group qualify for the knock-out stages.
The format will be a combination of singles and doubles play.
WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson said: “We are delighted to bring the World Cup back on to the calendar for the first time since 2011, and especially to stage it in the wonderful city of Wuxi.
“World Cups are always fantastic events in any sport because the players feel as if they are representing a nation, and the fans in each country can get right behind their team. Snooker is usually an individual game, so to play in a team brings a new kind of pressure. The players will be striving to climb the ranking list between now and the end of the season to earn a World Cup place.
“Snooker has grown massively as an international sport in recent years so it is fitting that we are now bringing back the World Cup. There is some incredible talent out there among nations which have not traditionally been snooker hot-beds, and now those players have the opportunity to show their skill on a major stage.
“I would like to pay tribute to the CBSA and the promoter in Wuxi for their hard work in bringing this event to fruition. We plan for it to become a biennial event, with the next one to take place in 2017. With so much support for snooker in China, I have no doubt the World Cup will be a great success.”
