Solid Steel (29th March).

Solid Steel (29th March).

We open with Ninja Tune artist Falty DL and a mix of fine tracks starting with the wonderful 'Love me like this' by Floating Points and into an unreleased cut from the man himself. Then it's the first of two tracks from Mr Richard D James, as AFX on Rephlex to start and Pulsewidth as Aphex Twin later. In between there's music from Theo Parrish, Luke Vibert, MFSB and Moodymann, plus some afrobeat magic from Tony Allen.
Robin from Hexstatic is up next with the new track 'Cirrus' from Bonobo (check the amazing video) and into a new release from the ever lush Lusine on Ghostly International. Some nice house action from Huxley and Soul Reazon and then new fav Dusky with 'What I Need'. Waze and Odyssey pump it up party style and then into the classic voice of Robert Owens brought up to date by Mosca, before closing with a great booty of Lauryn Hill switching the lyrics up from Golden Boy.

Our 25th Anniversary slot this week features Richard Dorfmeister who appeared on the show in 2003 and featured many times as one half of Kruder and Dorfmeister, as well as his project Tosca with Rupert Huber, amongst others. Opening with ECM artist Steve Tibbetts, his mix floats between Gui Boratto, his own lush edit for Selah Sue, acoustic guitar of Jeb Loy Nichols and the dubbed out Rhythm & Sound featuring Cornell Campbell on vocals. He then weaves through Pat Metheney, the dub version of Sunset from Grace Jones' last album, blues from Ry Cooder and ending with a couple of tracks from his recent Tosca album 'Odeon'.

Menagerie -The Spiritual Jazz Selector Mix

Menagerie -The Spiritual Jazz Selector Mix

'The Spiritual Jazz Selector Mix' is a collection of tracks assembled by Menagerie - the new spiritual Jazz project from prolific producer Lance Ferguson. 'They Shall Inherit' was shaped by Lance's reflections on fatherhood and the inherited sounds of past spiritual Jazz legends. This mix showcases an interpretation of just that, and includes a variety of influences from The Last Poets, Phil Ranelin, Richie Havens, and vibraphonist Roy Ayers (who is featured on the record)!

1. Menagerie – They Shall Inherit (Tru Thoughts)

7. Haki R. Madhubuti & Nation: Afrikan Liberation Arts Ensemble – Medasi – Children (Rise Records)

Solid Steel (22nd March).

Solid Steel (22nd March).

Coldcut in charge this week, easing in with a reggae selection featuring Horace Andy, Tapper Zukie and Baba Dread, before switching into the much sampled Anne Murray and stripping it right back with Unforscene. The beats get heavy with Clicks & Whistles, Krueger and Swindle on Deep Medi Musik, then more reggae from Lone Ranger and Peter Tosh and closing with legendary British jazz figure John Cameron.

In our 25th Anniversary slot, we welcome back Fink, who has appeared many times on Solid Steel dating back to 1999. We asked for something a little different and taking a brief break from the studio in LA where he's demoing up the new Fink album, he delivers us 30 minutes of avant-bard-core for the ear waves. It's music from The Horrors, Bjork, Fever Ray and House of Black Lanterns, with a couple of remixes courtesy of 16 Bit and Scuba. The new Fink EP 'Warm Shadow' is available for download this week.

Finally, it's a mix from Natural Self to close the show. His new album 'Neon hurts my eyes' is out now on Tru Thoughts and we get a taste of some of the tracks, including his great version of Laurie Anderson's 'O Superman', plus music from The Units, Innerzone Orchestra and the sublime 'The Other Song' by Son of Spirit from 1975.
