Ochre EP

Wow, it's been quite a busy few months... plenty of exciting news to report!

My debut EP of original tracks drops on the 30th exclusively at JunoDownload. It's called 'Ochre EP' and is being put out on the fantastic Rainbow Socks label, based in Brazil. Included are two original tracks alongside a couple top class remixes courtesy of Enzo Ponzio (Solardisco/Pizzico Nobel) and Tiago (Hands of Time/Ene/Italians Do It Better). Here's some of the promo feedback so far....

Welcome to Earth

Space-Kudu does a fine job extending Moebius' 'Urth' into an epic, dusty cosmic stomper. Plenty of great loops and builds. From the 1979 LP 'Moebius' released on Moonwind/Voom Voom. Quality stuff. Welcome to Earth!

Poyson

It's not often that boogie edits come as imaginatively dubbed out as this. Brighton's BlackLodge aka Motion XL aka Rob Fahay flips Gwen McCrae's 'Poyson' (originally released on the '81 LP 'Gwen McCrae') into a loopy, dubby chugger, tastefully building the percussive groove and holding back on the boogie goods until you're completely hooked.

Check Rob's website for more of his fine edits. He
also hosts the weekly Sunday morning show on upfrontdance.net all across Brighton featuring a sure fire mix of boogie, disco and funk for anyone up early having their breakfast or still going from the previous night. And, if you're in the Brighton area (or even if you're not), you catch him down the Fishbowl Bowl Bar on the third Friday of every month playing an eclectic mix of soul, funk, disco, boogie, rare underground 60s/70s classics, the finest re-edits and some other stuff you won't be expecting, all deliciously left of centre.

Funky disco from Asphalt Jungle, released on TEC in '79, complete with perhaps the least subtle drugs/not drugs themed lyrics ever - hence the photograph. Nice briefcase.

Rainbow Socks

I've just finished a remix for Brazilian label Rainbow Socks, based in São Paulo, for an upcoming EP from 3am (label owner and producer Pejota) which will be seeing a digital release in the near future. The EP will include two 3am originals with remixes, one remix from me and the other from Rio based producer Pedro Zopelar, who was kind enough to send me a bunch of tracks this morning. I've already been dropping his massive 3am remix for several weeks now (be sure to check it when the EP drops) and his other edits and productions do not disappoint. Here he flips a Jorje Ben record into a percussive house workout with an old shcool feel. Also check his original productions on Mister Mistery.

'Over and Over' from the Leeds-based label Lunar Jam's second release. Absolutely killer psychy midtempo edit business. Word on the grapevine is they've got another 12" in the works, so keep an eye out for that...

Laser Cowboys

Madrid based producer Nelue was kind enough to send me a whole bunch of his own exclusive edits the other day. You may have heard his awesome 'No Strings Attached' on Eskimo's Cosmic Balearic Beats vol. 2 (vinyl/digital). His edits are seriously good: no simple loops or extended intros here, its all about layers and effects, totally reworking the source track. He's allowed me to post one up here, and although the choice was tough I had to go for this one. It's massive. Spaghetti Western guitars, big piano chords and a huge arpeggiated bassline. What more do you need?

Futuristic Journey

Coyote smashes it with this cosmic midtempo treat, an edit of Biddu Orchestra's 'Futuristic Journey', off the 1979 LP of the same name. It's even been left nice and dusty too.

Alpha Bits

After a very productive digging session in Edinburgh a couple weekends ago, Alpha Neil is back with two brand new killer edits. Cooltempo Unlimited Orchestra's 'K-Jee' is first to go under the knife, big early house grooves from 1990 with plenty of brass and a driving bouncey bassline. Second to receive the Alpha Neil treatment is obscure '78 Italo track 'Fly with the Wind' from the Peter Jacques Band, slowed, looped and dubbed into a hypnotic cosmic bomb. Quality work as usual from Mr Neil!
