From a distance Aswan appears to be a small, rather idyllic and sleepy city but around two hundred and eighty thousand people live on Egypt’s southern border. It is impossible not to be captivated by the pulsating life of the mysterious and strange streets of Aswan. Even today the colourful displays of goods in the souks are dominated by the historical South African caravan trade. The city is well known for its traditional bazaars. Depending on the time of day, everyday life is relatively calm and interrupted only by the hectic hustle and bustle of the traders. Aswan is synonymous with immense dams. In 1902 the first dam on the Nile was completed by the British. The Soviet Union sponsored the construction of an even larger dam. In 1971 the Sadd El-Ali Dam transformed the appearance of the Nile forever.

Aswan (
/ˌæsˈwɑːn /; Arabic: [ʔɑˈsˁwɑːn], Arabic: أسوان Aswān, Ancient Egyptian: Swenet, Coptic: ⲥⲟⲩⲁⲛ Swān, Ancient Greek: Συήνη Syene), formerly spelled Assuan, is a city in the south of Egypt, the capital of the Aswan Governorate.
Aswan is a busy market and tourist centre located just north of the Aswan Dams on the east bank of the Nile at the first cataract. The modern city has expanded and includes the formerly separate community on the island of Elephantine.
Aswan is the ancient city of Swenet, which in antiquity was the frontier town of Ancient Egypt facing the south. Swenet is supposed to have derived its name from an Egyptian goddess with the same name[citation needed]. This goddess later was identified as Eileithyia by the Greeks and Lucina by the Romans during their occupation of Ancient Egypt because of the similar association of their goddesses with childbirth, and of which the import is "the opener". The ancient name of the city also is said to be derived from the Egyptian symbol for trade.

Depending on the time of day, everyday life is relatively calm and interrupted only by the hectic hustle and bustle of the traders. Aswan is synonymous with immense dams. In 1902 the first dam on the Nile was completed by the British. The Soviet Union sponsored the construction of an even larger dam. In 1971 the Sadd El-Ali Dam transformed the appearance of the Nile forever.

Ustad Aswan ternyata sengaja diam selama beberapa hari terakhir. Ia sengaja tidak mengaktifkan telepon karena takut salah bicara. Demikian Fajar Sidik alias Deki, adik Ustad Aswan mengabarkan hal ini kepada Bintang.com pada Selasa (17/11/2015). Ustad Aswan akan menggelar jumpa pers di sebuah resto di bilangan Tebet, Jakarta Selatan.
"Insya Allah Ustad Aswan akan menggelar jumpa pers besok sore. Apa saja yang ingin ditanyakan kepada beliau silahkan sampaikan. Jadi biar tuntas saja sekalian besok. Setelah jumpa pers ini semoga persoalan yang beberapa hari terakhir simpang-siur bisa terang," ujar Fajar Sidik.
Pengakuan RP ini belum mendapat tanggapan dari Ustad Aswan. Sejak kabar poligami dan pernikahan siri ini beredar, ponsel Ustad Aswan jadi sulit dihubungi. (Nurwahyunan/Bintang.com)
Saat ditanya apakah Ustad Aswan benar-benar sudah siap muncul di hadapan media dan publik? Deki menyakinkan kalau sang kakak sudah siap. "Sudah siap kok. Tidak ada halangan baginya untuk muncul. Dia akan menjelaskan semua persoalan secara gamblang. Apalagi ia menilai RP sudah agak banyak bicara di berbagai media," kata Deki.
Saat ditanya apakah Ustad Aswan juga akan menjelaskan soal dirinya yang menceraikan RP memalui pesan singkat BBM. "Ya itu juga akan dijelaskan. Bukannya persoaan itu yang menjadi pokok bahasan selama ini," terang Deki yang tak mau menjawab persoalannya. "Kalau saya kurang pas menjelaskan soal ini. Besok saja sama Ustad Aswan," elaknya saat didesak apakah mengetahui soal perceraian melalui BBM ini.

The Temple of Kom Ombo is an unusual double temple in the Egyptian town of Kom Ombo. It stands by the Nile just south of Gebel el-Silsila, between Aswan and Edfu.
The building is unique because its 'double' design meant that there were courts, sanctuaries and rooms duplicated for two sets of gods. The southern half of the temple was dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek, god of fertility. Meanwhile, the northern part of the temple was dedicated to the falcon god Horus the Elder.
The temple is a typical because everything is perfectly symmetrical along the main axis.
The outer enclosure wall is mud brick but the temple itself is built of local sandstone from the quarry at Gebel el-Silsila. The modern visitor enters by the gate on the eastern side of the outer enclosure wall.
Much of the temple has been destroyed by the Nile, earthquakes, and later builders who used its stones for other projects.
A few of the three-hundred crocodile mummies discovered in the vicinity are displayed in The Crocodile Museum.

Towering above almost any other human achievement are the impressive three pyramids of Gisa. The Cheops Pyramid, the world’s largest single construction, took four hundred thousand workers twenty years to build. It weighs as much as all the cathedrals in Europe put together and spans an area of 53,000 square metres - the height of a fifty storey skyscraper. Towering above almost any other human achievement are the impressive three pyramids of Gisa. At Aswan, the landscape of the Nile is enchanting, but it is the stone temples of Abu Simbel that take one back to ancient Egypt, land of the Pharaohs, and archaeological paradise.

Due to its remote location close to today’s Sudanese border in Southern Egypt, Abu Simbel was unknown until 1813 when only the heads of the temple’s colossal statues were visible above the sand. The breathtaking impression of its exterior also extends within where a magnificent hall with two rows of column-like statues leads into the depths of the temple.Abu Simbel is famous for its precise orientation toward the sun. Twice a year, the first rays of the morning sun shine down the entire length of the temple chamber and illuminate the rear wall of its innermost shrine. Various portrayals and descriptions of Egyptian gods can be found throughout, many of them portrayed with animal heads, such as hawks. Due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam, Abu Simbel has been relocated from its original position on the banks of the Nile. Thanks to an international effort by UNESCO, and at a cost of 42 million dollars, the surface of the hill and the inner chambers were sectioned and reconstructed 64m higher up the valley, inside a concrete dome. The smaller Hathor Temple, dedicated to the wife of Ramses II, Princess Nefertari, was also saved in this way. Today, the great temples of Abu Simbel rise once again in all their former glory.

Take a felucca cruise on the Nile for a 2 day trip to Aswan (the reverse trip is recommended, however, due to river currents).
Hire a donkey, horse, or camel to ride around Luxor's West Bank.Go to Pharaoh's Stables,just a short walk from the ferry terminal.They will take you to places where the big coaches cant go,so you can enjoy the real Egypt, with its friendly people and relaxed lifestyle.Every day is different when you see the West Bank by horse or donkey,and the guides will look after you all the way. They have horses for beginners to experienced riders.The Sunset ride and Nile ride is a must do.
