Kurdistan Province/Iran:
Kurdistan Province or Kordestan is one of the 31 provinces of Iran, not to be confused with the greater geographical area of Iranian Kurdistan. The province of Kurdistan is 28,817 km² in area which encompasses just one-fourth of the Kurdish inhabited areas of Iran or Iranian Kurdistan . It is located in the west of Iran, in Region 3, and bound by Iraq on the west, the province of West Azerbaijan to its north, Zanjan to the northeast, Hamedan to the east and Kermanshah to the south. The capital of Kurdistan Province is the city of Sanandaj (Kurdish: Sinne). Other counties with their major cities are Marivan, Baneh, Saqqez, Qorveh, Bijar, Kamyaran, Dehgolan, Diwandarreh and Sarvabad.
Kurdistan Province is a mountainous region that can be topographically divided into a western and an eastern section at Sanandaj. As a result of its elevation and mountains, Kurdistan province has many rivers, lakes, glaciers and caves, which render it rather picturesque. Consequently, Kurdistan has always attracted a large number of tourists and fans of mountaineering, ski and water-sports.
The Zarrineh River, 302 km long, is one of the longest rivers of this province. Its banks offer great opportunities for recreation and the river's plentiful water renders itself ideal for water sports. This river runs northwards and ultimately pours into Lake Urmia. The Sirvan River is another prominent river in this province. It runs over a long distance, eventually to join the Tigris in Iraq. The banks of this river are remarkably attractive. The Simineh River is also an important river in this province. A large number of marine species and birds live on the banks of the province's numerous rivers which they seem to find ideal habitats.
The population of the province in 1996 was 1,346,383 of which 52.42% were urban dwellers and 47.58% rural dwellers. According to National Census, in 2011 population of Kurdistan was 1,493,645 out of which 66% lived in urban area. The Kurdish people are the majority population in this province, and they speak Sorani-Kurdish which is a northwestern Iranian language. There is also a significant Azeri minority in Qorveh and Bijar. The region's historical name is Ardalan. The Kurdish language is categorized under the Indo-European group of languages, with a distinctive grammatical form. This language has various branches in Iran, such as the Sorani, Hewrami, Feyli, Kalhuri and Kurmanji. Majority of the people in Kurdistan province speak variants of Sorani Kurdish, sometimes called as "Ardalani" dialect. Hewrami Kurdish is also spoken around Marivan, in a region called "Hewramanî Text"(The Flat Hawraman). In eastern parts of the province including Bijar and Qorveh, the majority are Shiite Kurds. There also exists an Azeri minority in the villages around Qorveh. The major activities of the inhabitants are agriculture and modern livestock farming. Wheat, barley, grains and fruits are the major agricultural products. The chemical, metal, textile, leather and food industries are the main industrial activities in this province.

Iran has announced the deployment of its second long-range Ghadir radar, which is part of an integrated air defense system the country is creating. An even longer-range system is currently partially operational.
The new over-the-horizon radar system, which is said to be able to track ballistic missiles at 1,100km and fighter aircraft at 600km, was finalized in Ahwaz city in southwestern Khuzestan province near the Iraq border, the state-run FARS news agency reported Saturday.
It’s the second system of its kind in Iran. The first Ghadir was unveiled in June last year at the Garmsar site in Semnan province in the north of the country. The Iranian military said that the system had been tested since 2011 and that it would be mass-produced.
Last year, Jane’s reported that Iran appeared to be constructing at least two other long-range radar systems, one between the towns of Andisheh and Qods just west of Tehran and another north of the city of Bijar in a mountainous part of the Kordestan province in western Iran. The report was based on satellite images of the sites and speculated that the latter system was the larger variant dubbed Sepehr.
The early warning Garmsar system has four horizontal phased arrays placed along a square and a central vertical array. The design is similar to the Russian Rezonans-NE system, but the Iranian domestically-produced radar has a longer range.
In February, Iran reported that its other radar system in construction, the Sepehr, was 40 percent complete. The system is reported to have 360 degree coverage, like the Ghadir, and a range of 3,000 km when fully operational, enough to cover entire Iran as well as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Pakistan, parts of Eastern Europe, southwest Russia, western India and most of the Arabian Sea.
Iran is building up its air defense systems and particularly the ability to detect enemy aircraft as the US and Israel maintain that they could use military force to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear capability. In 2007, Israel conducted a surprise strike on a site in Syria that it believed to be a clandestine plutonium reactor.
Tehran and leading world powers are currently negotiating a comprehensive deal, which would lift international sanctions from Iran in exchange of scaling down its controversial nuclear program and opening it up to inspections. The deadline for the negotiations is Tuesday July 7.
Israel considers the potential deal a threat to its national interests, insisting that the lifting of sanctions would bring Tehran closer to creating a nuclear weapon.

R.I.P Baitollah Abbasapour 36 year old Bodybuilder
Iran’s globally-renowned bodybuilder and the champion of the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB), Baitollah Abbaspour, has passed away after a hard-fought battle with Vasculitis, a rare disorder that involves inflammation in blood vessels.
Abbaspour went into a coma at Atiyeh Hospital in northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Tuesday morning and was immediately put on a ventilator. He died at the age of 36 later in the day at 11:15 p.m. (1845 GMT).
He was the first and, to date, the only Iranian to advance to the final round of the Masters Olympia – an international bodybuilding competition held annually by the IFBB, and had put in outstanding performances at various national and international sporting events.
Born in 1979 in the city of Bijar in the western Iranian province of Kordestan, Abbaspour grew up in Karaj, situated 20 kilometers (12 miles) west of Tehran.
He finished runner-up in Iran’s 2000 national bodybuilding championships staged in the central city of Isfahan, claimed the title of the 2003 national bodybuilding contests, and shone at the 2003 edition of the World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships in Mumbai, India.
Abbaspour landed in the third place at the 2005 World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships in the Chinese city of Shanghai, and continued to exhibit impressive displays in the following years.
He was diagnosed with Vasculitis earlier this year, and hospitalized as a result.
Vasculitis is an inflammation of blood vessels. The disorder forces changes in the walls of blood vessels, namely thickening, weakening, narrowing and scarring. The changes impede blood circulation, and eventually lead to organ and tissue damage

This stands in stark contrast to other Middle Eastern destinations, and visitors will fuel an important tourism industry in Kurdistan. These are some of the reasons that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and EIA have constructed and equipped an airport for the future, with capacity for three million passengers, and one of the world's longest runways, designed to accommodate the Airbus A380 and cargo aircraft of that class. The airport is the culmination of the vision and strategy put in place in 2003.

Erbil International Airport (IATA: EBL, ICAO: ORER), is the main airport of Erbil city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Erbil International Airport is centrally located on the Silk Road of the Airways. Following the liberation of Iraq in 2003, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) decided to transform Erbil's former military base into a modern civil aviation airport to serve as a major gateway to the world. Erbil International Airport (EIA) officially opened on July 7, 2005, and it welcomed its first IATA carrier on 11th December 2006. The KRG has enacted favorable rules to attract foreign investors and to help citizens of the Kurdistan Region in exile return home. Domestic traffic, as well as regional traffic throughout the expansive Middle East, is growing. Kurdistan's great natural resources of oil, natural gas and other minerals are creating a flourishing and rapidly growing business environment. Kurdistan is previously in exile are returning, bringing with them connections to other lands. There is an ever stronger need for efficient air transport, for passengers as well as cargo. With a population of 5.2 million and increasing, the three governorates of Erbil, Slemani, and Duhok cover approximately 40.000 square kilometers - larger than the Netherlands and four times the area of Lebanon. This includes the governorates administered by the Kurdistan Regional Government but does not include the disputed areas of Kurdistan outside of KRG administration, such as Kirkuk.
• The Region is geographically diverse, from hot and dry plains to cooler mountainous areas with natural springs and snowfall in the winter.
• Foreign visitors are warmly welcomed. Among the growing number of visitors are international media and business people as well as those returning from the Kurdish diaspora.
• The capital and the seat of the Kurdistan Regional Government is Erbil, a city known in Kurdish as Hawler. The Citadel in Erbil is considered the world’s oldest continuously inhabited settlement. The next largest cities are Slemani and Duhok. Please note that Slemani is the KRG’s official English spelling, but it can also be found with other spellings such as Sulaimani, Suleimani, Sulaimaniyah, and Suleimaniah.
• The Kurdistan Regional Government exercises executive power according to the Kurdistan Region’s laws as enacted by the democratically elected Kurdistan Parliament. Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani leads the current government.
• Iraq’s Constitution recognizes the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Kurdistan Parliament as the region’s formal institutions and the Peshmerga forces as the Region’s legitimate security guard.
• The current coalition government consists of several political parties that reflect the diversity of the Region’s population, which includes Chaldeans, Assyrians, Syriacs, Turkmen, Yazidis, Arabs and Kurds living together in harmony.
• More than 65% of destroyed villages have been rebuilt since being razed during the Anfal campaign perpetrated by Saddam Hussein’s regime in the 1980s.
• The Kurdish language is of Indo-European origin and is among the family of Iranian languages, such as Persian and Pashto, and is distinct from Arabic. The two main dialects are Sorani and Kurmanji.
• The Kurdistan Region has eleven public universities and several licensed private universities. Some of them use English as the main language of teaching and examination, most notably the University of Kurdistan Hawler (UKH) and the American University of Iraq – Sulaimani (AUIS).
• A new, liberal foreign investment law was ratified in June 2006, providing incentives for foreign investors such as the possibility of owning land, up to ten-year tax holidays, and easy repatriation of profits.
• To rapidly benefit from its oil and gas resources, the KRG has signed dozens of production sharing contracts with companies from several countries.
• The Kurdistan Region has international airports in Erbil and Slemani, with direct flights to and from Europe and the Middle East. A new international airport is under construction in Duhok.

Syria Documentary: A Young Girl's Heart-Wrenching Story of Her Time in a Syrian Prison

Syria, officially the Syrian Arab Republic, is a country in Western Asia, bordering Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest. Its capital Damascus is among the oldest continuously-inhabited cities in the world. A country of fertile plains, high mountains, and deserts, it is home to diverse ethnic and religious groups, including the Arab, Greeks, Armenians, Assyrians, Kurds, Circassians, Mhallami, Mandeans and Turks. Religious groups include Sunni, Christians, Alawite, Druze religion, Mandeanism and Yezidi. Sunni Arabs make up the largest population group in Syria.
In English, the name "Syria" was formerly synonymous with the Levant (known in Arabic as al-Sham) while the modern state encompasses the sites of several ancient kingdoms and empires, including the Eblan civilization of the 3rd millennium BC. In the Islamic era, Damascus was the seat of the Umayyad Caliphate and a provincial capital of the Mamluk Sultanate in Egypt.
The modern Syrian state was established after World War I as a French mandate, and represented the largest Arab state to emerge from the formerly Ottoman-ruled Arab Levant. It gained independence in April 1946, as a parliamentary republic. The post-independence period was tumultuous, and a large number of military coups and coup attempts shook the country in the period 1949–1971. Between 1958-61, Syria entered a brief union with Egypt, which was terminated by a military coup. The Arab Republic of Syria came into being in 1963, transforming from the Republic of Syria in the Ba'athist coup d'état. Syria was under Emergency Law from 1963 to 2011, effectively suspending most constitutional protections for citizens, and its system of government is considered to be non-democratic. Bashar al-Assad has been president since 2000 and was preceded by his father Hafez al-Assad, who was in office from 1970 to 2000.
