Mainland is a name given to a large landmass in a region (as contrasted with a nearby island or islands),or to the largest of a group of islands in an archipelago. Sometimes its residents are called "Mainlanders". Because of its larger area, a mainland almost always has a much larger population than its associated islands, and mainlander culture and politics sometimes threaten to dominate those of the islands.
Prominent uses of the term include:
The term is used on multiple levels. To someone in Tasmania, continental Australia is the mainland; but to residents of King Island, Flinders Island, and the other surrounding islands, Tasmania itself is the mainland.

A group of more than two dozen Mainland Chinese tourists thrust police and staff at a hotel in Hong Kong's bustling Tsim Sha Tsui neighborhood into their own personal hell on Sunday. Before arriving in Hong Kong, the group of 29 visiting from the southeastern province of Fujian had tried to book a total of seven rooms, meant to accommodate 24, for just a single night, according to authorities. The expired credit card they had used to book the $1,000 expense, however, was declined. Reportedly knowing full well they didn't have a proper reservation ahead of their departure the group nonetheless decided to air their grief with hotel staff.

You have the option to choose one of the Chef’s favorites (you gotta trust the guy) or build your own bowl. We did both. One element that immediately struck me was that Chef Chong doesn’t use any spices in his preparations, which really allows you to taste how fresh the meat and toppings are. There is nothing for them to hide behind.

A group of more than two dozen Mainland Chinese tourists thrust police and staff at a hotel in Hong Kong's bustling Tsim Sha Tsui neighborhood into their own personal hell on Sunday.
Before arriving in Hong Kong, the group of 29 visiting from the southeastern province of Fujian had tried to book a total of seven rooms, meant to accommodate 24, for just a single night, according to authorities. The expired credit card they had used to book the $1,000 expense, however, was declined.
Reportedly knowing full well they didn't have a proper reservation ahead of their departure the group nonetheless decided to air their grief with hotel staff.
The hotel nonetheless agreed to offer four rooms that could accommodate the large group for US$950 on very short notice.
The set of rooms included one with seven bunk beds and apparently large enough to fit a whopping 14 people, two rooms for a half dozen people each, with only two double beds in each room, meaning four people would have to doze off on the hotel room floor. And finally, a likely much more comfortable room for three of the tourists.
Instead of getting accustomed to their no doubt less than snug arrangements, as soon as they checked in, the army of tourists marched off straight to Disneyland.
When they came back to the hotel at around 7 p.m., they began to, unsurprisingly, kick up a bit of a fuss. This time complaining that the hotel had put men and women in the same room, that they didn't like bunked beds, and that they didn't want to, under any circumstances, sleep on the ground.
The complaints lasted an agonizing seven hours and finally ended around 2 a.m. after the hotel agreed to pay for the group to stay at a neighboring hotel.

A tourist from mainland China, Mr. Miao, died at a hospital in Hong Kong this morning after he was beaten unconscious by a group of unknown men on Monday. The attack occurred after a dispute with his tour group leader in a jewelry shop. Hong Kong police has changed the investigation to a murder case.
The incident started with 54-year-old Mr. Miao trying to mediate a brawl between a female fellow tourist, 53-year-old Ms. Zhang and their mainland tour group leader, surname Deng.
Miao and Zhang signed up with a tour group from Shenzhen to Hong Kong. They were reported to be unwilling to buy anything when visiting a jewelry shop in Hung Hom, due to high prices and low discounts. Ms. Zhang was arguing with the tour leader and it turned into a dispute.
The conflict mediator Miao was pulled out of the shop by two men and was beaten unconscious while lying on the ground with a bloody mouth. “Someone hit his belly when he fell down," a Hong Kong news website quoted a witness as saying.
Four suspects have been arrested, including the tour leader Deng and a local guide. National Tourism Administration later released a statement calling for Hong Kong institutions to maintain the rights of mainland tourists and to find out the truth about this incident quickly.
The case went viral online, with some netizens worrying that less mainland Chinese tourists would travel to Hong Kong as a result.

Glenelg is a popular beach-side suburb of the South Australian capital of Adelaide. Located on the shore of Holdfast Bay in Gulf St Vincent, it has become a popular tourist destination due to its beach and many attractions, home to several hotels and dozens of restaurants.
Established in 1836, it is the oldest European settlement on mainland South Australia (the oldest being Kingscote on Kangaroo Island), with the proclamation of the colony of South Australia. It was named after Lord Glenelg, a member of British Cabinet and Secretary of State for War and the Colonies.
Through Lord Glenelg the name derives from Glenelg, Highland (previously Inverness-shire), Scotland. In Scottish Gaelic the name is Gleann Eilg. The name Glenelg is noteworthy for being a palindrome.
In August 1857, construction of Glenelg's first jetty commenced; it was opened on 25 April 1859. Costing over £31,000 (pounds sterling) to build, the structure was 381 metres (1,250 ft) long. The jetty was used not only by fishermen but also to accept cargo from ships, including a mail service operated by P&O;, until Port Adelaide replaced it as Adelaide's main port.
There were several additions to the jetty. A lighthouse was built in 1872 at the jetty's end, but a year later it caught fire and was cast into the sea to save the rest of the structure. A replacement lighthouse was built in 1874, and was 12.1 metres (40 ft) tall. Other additions included public baths, an aquarium, a police shed and a three-story kiosk with tea rooms. The kiosk structure also housed a family.
The kiosk was wrecked in a storm in 1943, and the entire jetty was destroyed by a freak cyclone in 1948, most of the structure washed away and the rest unsafe. Just two weeks later, the local council began drafting plans for a new jetty and construction was completed in 1969. The new structure was just 215 metres (705 ft) long,[12] less than two-thirds of the original jetty. The second jetty continues to stand today, at the end of Jetty Road.
Many other high-rise buildings exist in Glenelg, including the fifteen-story Stamford Grand hotel on Moseley Square, built in 1990, and the twelve-story Liberty Towers, built in 2004.
The Holdfast Shores development, starting in the late 1990s, included the construction of the Marina Pier apartment building with its own private marina in Glenelg North, and the Pier Hotel.
The only tram line still operating in Adelaide is the Glenelg Tram, which runs from Moseley Square, along Jetty Road though Glenelg, to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Hindmarsh. The route dates back to 1873 and is still operated on weekends and holidays by the historic H-Class trams, circa 1929.[ Weekday service was taken over by modern Bombardier Flexity Classic trams in 2006.
Jetty Road is a long ribbon of shops, entertainment facilities and other commercial activities - it is the main shopping precinct in Glenelg.

Inspired by TheUnluckyTug02, here's my first fanmade DVD. Ignore the Milkshake logo :P
An alternate title is Speedy Streamliners. I think I prefer Marvellous Mainland Engines.
Time to whoosh like the wind! Sodor is filled with fast engines, but the steamlined engines from the Mainland are even faster – Spencer, Connor and Caitlin! Spencer helps Stephen to be faster than he was ever built for, while the Sodor engines try to impress Spencer's VIP from the Mainland. Caitlin is very fast – too fast for Annie and Clarabel, when they are accidentally coupled to her high-speed train! When Bill and Ben first meet cocky Connor, they want to teach that "speedy-wheels" a lesson, but Connor soon redeems himself when doing a hero's effort to get people home for Christmas! Buckle up for fun and excitement with Thomas' fastest friends in these high-speed adventures!
Directed by David Baas, David Stoten and Don Spencer.
Unfortunately, the Rollcall and end credits are in crap quality. But it was the best I could do.

The latest victim is a 22-year-old mainland woman, surnamed Fung, who is a fourth-year student at the Hong Kong Institute of Education in Tai Po. She told police she had transferred 600,000 yuan (HK$732,000) to a mainland bank account through five separate transactions since October 19 ... Two of those victims are also mainlanders. Fung received phone calls from scammers who pretended to be mainland officials....
