More about Siddhartha:
by Hermann Hesse (1877-1962)
Translated by Gunther Olesch, Anke Dreher, Amy Coulter, Stefan Langer and Semyon Chaichenets
Siddhartha is one of the great philosophical novels. Profoundly insightful, it is also a beautifully written story that begins as Siddhartha, son of an Indian Brahman, leaves his family and begins a lifelong journey towards Enlightenment. On the way he faces the entire range of human experience and emotion: he lives with ascetics, meets Gotama the Buddha, learns the art of love from Kamala the courtesan, and is transformed by the simple philosophy of the ferryman Vasudeva whose wisdom comes not from learned teachings but from observing the River. Hermann Hesse (1877-1962) was a German-Swiss novelist, poet, and painter. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1946. (Summary by Adrian Praetzellis)

This film features views of the Nerobergbahn, a water and gravity powered funicular railway, which travels up a hill called the Neroberg in Wiesbaden. The train is powered by the weight of water and gravity, which takes one unit down the hill, while at the same time pulling a second unit up the hill. Water is taken on at the top and released at the bottom, thus creating a weight differentiation.
The film features views of the train and viaduct, the ride up the hill, views from the Neroberg station of a train descending, and the taking on of water.
After which the views are at the Neroberg featuring a First World War memorial, the magnificent views over Wiesbaden, some zoomed and panned shots of the city centre, fields of grape vines, and some of the architectural structures at the top of the Neroberg.
The film ends with the view from the Nerobergbahn descending the mountain, most of this footage is speeded up 4 times.

Initially called The Church of the Holy Trinity; The Church of Saint Donatus in Zadar, Croatia was given its current moniker in the 15th century.
The church was erected in the ninth century, before the introduction of Romanesque architecture.
Its structure is rich with history, built next to an early Roman Forum.
Instead, Saint Donatus Church has a unique, circular design, with a red, peaked roof.
The simple exterior with its whitewashed walls have remained roughly the same for hundreds of years.
Though Saint Donatus no longer holds services, it is still accessible to visitors.

Kastel is the historical bridgehead of Mainz, the capital of the German state Rhineland-Palatinate and is located on the right side of the Rhine river. Kastel faces the historical center of Mainz and the two cities are connected by a road bridge. Kastel is located about one kilometer below today's water mouth of the river Main into the Rhine.
In its long history Kastel repeatedly belonged to Mainz and was formally incorporated on 1 April 1908. Since Mainz was part of the French occupation zone (formed after World War II) and Kastel was part of the American occupation zone, the Americans ordained that Kastel should be part of the administration of Wiesbaden. Ever since 25 July 1945, Kastel belongs to the Hessian state capital Wiesbaden.
This film was taken between the River Rhine and the Railway Station of Mainz-Kastel. It features the following:

Theodor-Heuss-Brücke
Bastion von Schonborn restaurant
Museum Castellum

Take a tour of Kurhaus in Wiesbaden in Wiesbaden, Germany -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The most popular large-scale meeting place in Wiesbaden, Germany is the magnificently designed Kurhaus.
Kurhaus means spa house, which was once its purpose in this well-known spa town.
The building is designed in the neoclassical style, reminiscent of ancient Greece and Rome, with columns, porticos, and even a dome.
The words Aquis Mattiacis are inscribed over the entrance to the Kurhaus and mean the waters of the Mattiaci.
So many people were visiting the Wiesbaden spas that the old spa house was demolished in 1907 to make way for the larger current building.
At night, the Kurhaus transforms into a glowing palace, with a golden dome and a glimmering fountain.

It calls to mind both images of German nobility and a decorated wedding cake.
The Biebrich Palace is one of Wiesbaden's greatest attractions.
It began as a chateau in 1702 and also functioned as a ducal residence for fifty years.
The palace was built in three stages; the original building is the current West Pavilion.
A mirrored structure was built just to the east for the prince's wife.
The two pavilions were then joined together in 1721 by the large circular Rotunda, forming today's Biebrich Palace.

Bremen Travel Video - Those of you who love peat bogs, walking on tidal flats, going to sea or blustery bike rides will especially enjoy visiting Bremen and the East Frisian coast. It's a place ideally suited to taking the pace off travel and to immersing yourself in flat, verdant countryside. If not for its focal point Bremen, it wouldn't even have a city of notable size to write home about.
But Bremen, an outward-looking, very friendly cultural and industrial capital of its own city state, is the clear urban highlight and also includes the port of Bremerhaven and the artists' colony of Worpswede. While rail connections in the eastern parts are excellent, you will find buses and boats necessary for exploring outlying regions of East Frisia and of course the islands.

Take a tour of Wiesbaden's Market Church in Wiesbaden, Germany -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Looking out over the city of Wiesbaden, Germany, a cluster of tall spires emerges from the center of the city.
These spires, the tallest points in the city, mark the location of the famous Market Church.
Standing in front of the church is The Silent, a statue of the Emperor William of Orange.
The central tower of the three-nave basilica is an impressive 302 feet tall, with the city clock midway up.
Neo-Gothic in design, constructed using brick, the church was built from 1852-1862.
From the soaring towers to the stained-glass windows, the Market Church is one of Wiesbaden's most beautiful buildings.

Dresden Travel Video - There are few city silhouettes more striking than Dresden's. The classic view from the Elbe's northern bank takes in spires, towers and domes belonging to palaces, churches and stately buildings. Numerous artists, most notably the Italian Canaletto, have set up their easels to capture this breathtaking panorama.
Dresden's cultural heyday came under the 18th-century reign of Augustus the Strong (August der Starke) and his son Augustus III when the Saxon capital was known as the 'Florence of the north'. Their vision produced many of Dresden's iconic buildings, including the Zwinger and the Frauenkirche. The devastating bombing raids in 1945 levelled most of these treasures. But Dresden is a survivor and many of the most important landmarks have since been rebuilt, including the elegant Frauenkirche. Today, there's a constantly evolving arts and cultural scene and zinging pub and nightlife quarters, especially in the Outer Neustadt.

The Rhine Valley or Middle Rhine (German Mittelrhein) is the most famous section of the Rhine, running between the cities of Bonn and Bingen near Mainz in Germany and spanning the states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse. The section from Koblenz to Bingen and Rüdesheim, known as the Rhine Gorge, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the entire valley is often called "The Romantic Rhine".
The Rhine Valley, where the Rhine carves its way through steep hills topped with countless castles and ruins, is one of the most famous and most heavily touristed parts of Germany. Traveling here is very easy — cruises, castles and winery tours by day, sampling the wine at night — and it's no surprise that the visiting demographic is slanted heavily towards retirees looking for an easy break.
When to go
=====--====
The peak season is definitely summer, when the hillsides are green and the cruise boats busy. In September, many inns and restaurants already start closing down for the winter, and almost all cruises end by November, starting up again in April.
