Bursa is a large city in Turkey, located in northwestern Anatolia, within the Marmara Region. It is the fourth most populous city in Turkey and one of the most industrialized metropolitan centers in the country. The city is also the administrative center of Bursa Province.
Bursa was the first major and second overall capital of the Ottoman State between 1335 and 1363. The city was referred to as Hüdavendigar (meaning "God's gift") during the Ottoman period, while a more recent nickname is Yeşil Bursa (meaning "Green Bursa") in reference to the parks and gardens located across its urban fabric, as well as to the vast and richly varied forests of the surrounding region. The ski resort of Mount Uludağ towers over it. The mountain was called the Mysian Olympus by the Romans who lived there before. Bursa has rather orderly urban growth and borders a fertile plain. The mausoleums of the early Ottoman sultans are located in Bursa and the city's main landmarks include numerous edifices built throughout the Ottoman period. Bursa also has thermal baths and several museums, including a museum of archaeology.
The shadow play characters Karagöz and Hacivat are based on historic personalities who lived and died in Bursa. Bursa is also home to some of the most famous Turkish dishes such as İskender kebap, specially candied marron glacés, peaches and Turkish Delight. Bursa houses the Uludağ University, and its population can claim one of the highest overall levels of education in Turkey. The historic towns of İznik (Nicaea), Mudanya and Zeytinbağı are all situated in Bursa Province.
In 2014, Bursa had a population of 1,800,278, while Bursa Province had 2,787,539 inhabitants.

ludağ [ˈuɫudaː], the ancient Mysian Olympus, is a mountain in Bursa Province, Turkey, with an elevation of 2,543 m (8,343 ft). It is a popular center for winter sports such as skiing, and a national park of rich flora and fauna. Summer activities, such as trekking and camping, also are popular.
In Turkish, Uludağ means "Sublime Mountain", but in colloquial Turkish, the older name Keşiş Dağı, "Mountain of Monks," is still used. In ancient times the range of which it is a part, extending along the southern edge of Bithynia, was known as Olympos in Greek and Olympus in Latin, the western extremity being known as the Mysian Olympus and the eastern as the Bithynian Olympus,[2] and the city of Bursa was known as Prusa ad Olympum from its position near the mountain.[3] Throughout the Middle Ages, it contained hermitages and monasteries: "The rise of this monastic centre in the 8th c. and its prestige up to the 11th are linked to the resistance of numerous monks to the policy of the iconoclast emperors and then to a latent opposition to the urban, Constantinopolitan monasticism of the Studites.".[4] One of the greatest monks of the Christian East, the wonder-working Byzantine monk Saint Joannicius the Great, lived as a hermit on this mountain.
Mt. Uludağ is the highest mountain of the Marmara region. Its highest peak is Kartaltepe at 2,543 m (8,343 ft). To the north are high plateaus: Sarıalan, Kirazlıyayla, Kadıyayla, and Sobra.
There is an abandoned wolfram mine near the summit. The mine and the integrated plant, which were built in 1974 for 60 million dollars, were eventually closed in 1989 due to high production costs.

Prosim Medical is located in Bursa Province which is known as the industrial base of Turkey. It produces and designs implants used in orthopedic, traumatology and brain surgery as well as prothefis production in-house. Prosim Medical, having the largest machinery in Turkey and world-class technology, provides solutions to the market with its 100% national capital.
Prosim means a system-based service, quality and zero errors.
We aim continuous improvement with our investments in technology, R&D; studies conducted either by specialists or research universities and our innovative management staff who work systematically and with a plan.
The cytronics brand is used in our all products.
We always ask ourselves “How could we get better?” while our products with titanium, implant steel and MR adaptable high nitrogen containing stainless steel are used primarily by private and state hospitals all over Turkey. We are proud of being successful to present our brand first to the people in Marmara then in Turkey and then in the World while producing solutions for those who need them.
In our trimming automat and CNC lathe department, we produce hand tools, primarily locked and unlocked screws. We also produce anatomic and flat plates, hand tools and the like in our CNC spline department. For these machines, we use Esprit and TopSolid CAM software.
Thanks to our string erosion system which is used by a limited number of producers in Turkey, we carry out outside cuttings of titanium plaques which we use to produce plates. We also use it in critical profile processes and to produce hand tools.
In Prosim, the journey of anatomy compatible plates start with hi-tech software. The journey proceeds with the evaluation of the samples printed by 3D printers. At the end, production processes start.
Polishing processes of all our plates and hand tools that we produce are conducted by specialists. Micro trimming is also done by them by using optical magnifiying lenses. Our products ungergo an 100% visual check during this process.
The clean room in our facility is compatible with ISO Class 7 standarts.
Before we deliver our products to our authorized resellers, we stock them in our depot, then register them by using appropriate software and track them with their lot numbers.
All our products produced in our facility have laser printed brand names, code numbers and identifiying information on them.
The answers for the questions “Why Prosim?” or “What is the difference of Prosim?” are very clear.
We serve with our high values, organizational success and business ethics in the light of our quality certificates. Our management staff and workers always focus on consumer satisfaction under the name of Prosim which we acknowledge as our family.
We never forget that we have a lot to do!
Best regards…

As Turkey's most eagerly awaited parliamentary elections draw closer, the electorate of the western province of Bursa is seeking alternatives to the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party), which they believe has let them down.
Bursa, the first major and second overall capital of the Ottoman state during the 15th century, has traditionally been a hub of multiculturalism, trade and diverse religious associations. However, more recently the people of Bursa have felt disenchanted with the governance of the province and the country as a whole, and are looking for political alternatives to the AK Party, namely the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), both of which claim to have an increasingly growing supporter base in the city once seen a AK Party stronghold.
Bursa, the fourth most populous city in Turkey and one of the country's most industrialized metropolises, is home to Turkey's ailing sub-industry, producing spare parts for large automotive firms. Bursa is also host to the Turkish factories of large car companies such as , Oyak Renault and Ford Otosan.
A recent strike at Oyak Renault, which started on May 21, crippled the single-largest private sector source of income for thousands of residents of the historic city. The strike began when Renault laborers demanded an increase in salaries. The Renault workers set off a chain reaction of strikes at automotive plants, mostly in the industry's heart of Bursa, spreading to Ford Otosan where large numbers of workers walked off the job demanding pay increases.
Previously, workers at auto parts manufacturer MAKO and TOFAŞ were among the establishments where the strikes had ended, with laborers receiving improved terms.
A taxi driver by the name of Hasan said he felt the strike was fair and necessary. “My cousin works at Bosch, and they received, two years ago, the increase the Renault workers are demanding today. It's a disgrace.”
Production at the Oyak Renault plant resumed at 8 a.m. on Wednesday after a deal was struck with the car manufacturer the previous night. Renault workers had previously rejected concessions made by the firm on May 24. However the impending implications of the walkouts, striking at the core of one of Turkey's most prized industrialized cities, remains to be seen.
Göksel Gül, a silk merchant running a shop in the Koza Han, a souk in Bursa's prestigious and historic Ulu Camii district, said the strikes had affected business over the last two weeks. Gül, a self-professed supporter of the AK Party, said he saw no alternative to the AK Party and that there had been relative stability with this government over the past 13 years.
When asked whether he believed the allegations of corruption and bribery committed by the upper echelons of the AK Party, the silk merchant said: “Who doesn't steal? Were the previous governments any better? At least I have a president who prays tahajjud.”
Tahajjud is known as the "night prayer," a voluntary supplication performed by followers of Islam in addition to the obligatory prayers performed five times a day.
The graft investigation, the largest of its kind in Turkey's history, implicated four then-Cabinet ministers, their families, prominent businesspeople and several members of then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's family on charges of bribery and transferring gold to Iran to undermine US-led sanctions.
With the AK Party visibly losing steam in the province, the remaining parties fancy their chances of having more deputies elected to Parliament. With many residents of the province claiming that especially the CHP rally attracted twice as many people as AK Party, with many MHP supporters claiming a similar achievement.
Despite many polling companies placing the AK Party in first place, the margin by which it leads is shrinking, with many local observers in Bursa saying it is impossible for the AK Party to repeat its success of 2011.
In the 2011 general election, the AK Party won 52.9 percent of the popular vote in Bursa, which in turn translated into 11 seats in parliament, with party spokesman-turned-rebel Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç heading the list. The CHP, however, only managed to receive 24 percent of the vote, which allowed it to field five deputies from the province, including the frontrunner Sena Kaleli, the chief executive of the Turkish coach company Kamil Koç A.Ş. Neither Arınç nor Kaleli are standing for re-election this time, with the former ousted by the three-term limit imposed by AK Party bylaws designed to bring regeneration to the party.

The mayor of the Gürsu district in Turkey’s western province of Bursa was shot at his office along with his security guard on May 20. He remains in a critical condition at hospital.
Cüneyt Yıldız, the mayor of Gürsu from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), was immediately taken to hospital with his guard, who is a former specialist sergeant, after the attack.
The assailant, who is reportedly a city police officer working at the municipality, broke into Yıldız’s office at around 15:00 p.m. and fired his gun, injuring the mayor and his guard.
Health Minister Mehmet Müezzinoğlu confirmed the armed assault, sending his well wishes to the injured mayor, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

Grand Mpsque is the largest mosque in Bursa and a landmark of early Ottoman architecture which used many elements from the Seljuk architecture. Ordered by Sultan Bayezid I, the mosque was designed and built by architect Ali Neccar in 1396–1399. It is a large rectangular building, with twenty domes arranged in four rows of five that are supported by twelve columns. Supposedly the twenty domes were built instead of the twenty separate mosques which Sultan Bayezid I had promised for winning the Battle of Nicopolis in 1396. The mosque has two minarets.

The mosque has two minarets.

http://davidsbeenhere.com Join David’s Been Here as they explore all the must-visit sites and top destinations in Turkey. In this video, David brings us to Turkey’s second largest city of Bursa. Located in the northwest corner of the country (just south of Istanbul), Bursa was the first capital of the Ottoman Empire and today thrives as one of the country’s most industrialized cities. Join David as he tours all the top things to see and do in Bursa, from the coolest historical sites to some of the best shopping. Most tours should kick off around Zafer Plaza and the Grand Bazaar, where visitors can explore one of the city’s most famous items of trade: silk. Located in the Koza Han section, you can explore two levels and over 40 shops of beautiful, authentic, 100% “ipek” (silk products)- the perfect gift or souvenir to bring back home. From here you can visit the stunning 14th century Ulu Cami, or Grand Mosque (a great example of early Ottoman architecture), the beautifully tiled Yesil Türbe (Green Tomb of Mehmed I) and Hisar- the citadel entrance and last remaining gate of the Old City Wall. A bit outside the city center, visitors can find Inkaya- a 600-year-old sycamore tree planted by the Ottomans… a great place to visit in the morning for some coffee/tea & breakfast! Most sites are within walking distance from the historic city center, so don’t miss a beat when you’re visiting this beautiful Turkish city!

Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye) is on the Mediterranean, with 97% of its territory in West Asia and the Middle East, and with a small section in Southeastern Europe separated by the Turkish Straits (Bosphorus, Sea of Marmara, and Dardanelles). With the Black Sea to the north and the Aegean Sea in the west and Mediterranean Sea to the southwest, Turkey is surrounded by Bulgaria and Greece to the west, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia to the northeast, Syria, Iraq and Iran to the southeast.
Ancient ruins and architectural heritage
At the crossroads of civilizations, all parts of Turkey are full of a mindblowing number of ancient ruins.
Hittites, the first indigenous people that rose to found a state in Anatolia—although there is one certain Çatalhöyük preceding them, the earliest settlement ever found to the date in Turkey—left the proof of their existence at the ruins of Hattuşaş, their capital.
Ancient Greeks and closely following Romans left their mark mostly in Aegean and Mediterranean Regions, leaving behind the marble ruins of hundreds of cities, temples, and monuments. Some are largely restored to their former glory, such as Ephesus as well as numerous others along the Aegean coast which are on the checklist of most travellers to Turkey, along with some more obscure ones off the beaten path such as Aphrodisias near Denizli, and Aizonai.
In the meantime, some other indigenous peoples, such as Lycians, were carving beautiful tombs—many of which are fairly well preserved and can be seen all around Lycia—for their dearly departed ones onto the rocky hillsides.
Legendary Troy stands out as an example of different civilizations literally living on the top of each other. While what is visible today is clearly Hellenistic, the place has its roots as Hittite Wilusa, and later re-built many times over by Ancient Greeks.
Perhaps the most unique "architectural" heritage in the country, some of the Cappadocian cave houses and churches carved into "fairy chimneys" and underground cities (in a literal sense!) date back to early Christians hiding from persecution.
Successors of Romans, the Byzantines, broke new ground with more ambitious projects, culminating in grand Hagia Sophia of Istanbul, built in 537, and which had the distinction of being the largest cathedral in the world for almost a thousand years. Most of Byzantine heritage intact today is found in Marmara Region, especially in Istanbul, although a stray monastery or two dating back to the era can be found in almost any part of the country.
Seljuks, the first ever Turkic state to be founded in Asia Minor, built most of their monuments—which incorporates large majestic portals and heavily delicate stonework, reminiscent of some landmarks in parts of Asia—in major centres of the time in Eastern and Central Anatolia, especially in Konya, their capital.
Ottomans, who had considered themselves as a Balkan state until their demise, built most of their landmarks in Balkans and the natural extension of Balkans within today's Turkey—Marmara Region—just like the Byzantines, whom the Ottomans inspired to in so many ways. Most of the earlier Ottoman monuments were built in Bursa, which have little Byzantine and comperatively large Seljuk influences, and later, when the dynasty moved to Europe, in Edirne, some of the major landmarks of which exhibit some kind of "transitional" and fairly experimental style. It wasn't until the Fall of Constantinople that the Ottomans adopted Byzantine architecture almost full scale with some adjustments. However, the Ottoman imperial architecture possibly reached its zenith not in Istanbul, but in Edirne—in the form of Selimiye Mosque, a work of Sinan, the great Ottoman architecture of 16th century.
19th century brought back the Greek and Roman taste of architectural styles, so there was a huge explosion of neo-classical architecture, as much fashionable in Turkey as in the much of the rest of the world at that time. Galata side of Istanbul, Izmir (though unfortunately most of which was lost to the big fire of 1922), and numerous towns along the coasts, one most prominent and well preserved example being Ayvalık, quickly filled with elegant neo-classical buildings. At the same time, people in more inland locations were favouring pleasant, more traditional, and less pretentious half-timbered whitewashed houses, which form picturesque towns such as Safranbolu, Beypazarı, and Şirince in northern, central, and western part of the country respectively. It was also this time beautiful and impressive wooden mansions of Istanbul's seaside neighbourhoods and islands were built.

Turkish cuisine (Turkish: Türk mutfağı) is largely the heritage of Ottoman cuisine, which can be described as a fusion and refinement of Central Asian, Caucasian, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and Balkan cuisines.[1][2] Turkish cuisine has in turn influenced those and other neighbouring cuisines, including those of Western Europe. The Ottomans fused various culinary traditions of their realm with influences from Middle Eastern cuisines, along with traditional Turkic elements from Central Asia (such as yogurt and (Manti (dumpling)), creating a vast array of specialities—many with strong regional associations.
Turkish cuisine varies across the country. The cooking of Istanbul, Bursa, Izmir, and rest of the Aegean region inherits many elements of Ottoman court cuisine, with a lighter use of spices, a preference for rice over bulgur, koftes and a wider availability of vegetables stew (türlü), eggplant, stuffed dolmas and fish. The cuisine of the Black Sea Region uses fish extensively, especially the Black Sea anchovy (hamsi), has been influenced by Balkan and Slavic cuisine, and includes maize dishes. The cuisine of the southeast -Urfa, Gaziantep and Adana- is famous for its variety of kebabs, mezes and dough-based desserts such as baklava, kadayıf and künefe.
Especially in the western parts of Turkey, where olive trees grow abundantly, olive oil is the major type of oil used for cooking.[3] The cuisines of the Aegean, Marmara and Mediterranean regions are rich in vegetables, herbs, and fish. Central Anatolia has many famous specialties, such as keşkek (kashkak), mantı (especially from Kayseri) and gözleme.
A specialty's name sometimes includes that of a city or region, either in or outside of Turkey, and may refer to the specific technique or ingredients used in that area. For example, the difference between urfa kebab and adana kebab is the thickness of the skewer and the amount of hot pepper that kebab contains. Urfa kebab is less spicy and thicker than adana kebab.
