How-to Make Homemade Oat Milk (Recipe)
Homemade Oatmilk is a delicious alternative to dairy milk. It is cheap, quick and very easy to make. Adding some coconut flakes help the milk to hold itself better together.
I have used quick oats here but I have had better results (taste-wise) by using oat groats that are soaked overnight, drained and rinsed then used as per the same recipe.
Add more coconut if you like the taste better.

For the oatmeal:
1/3 cup rolled oats
1 tbsp chia seeds
¼ cup Greek yogurt
¼ - ½ cup almond milk (soy, hemp, rice or dairy work too)
Carrot Cake
¼ cup carrot, shredded
1 tbsp maple syrup
2 tbsp pecan, chopped (optional)
¼ tsp cinnamon
Blueberry Lemon
1 tbsp blueberry jam
½ tsp lemon rind
¼ tsp vanilla extract
¼ cup blueberry
Chocolate Strawberry
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp cocoa powder
1 tbsp chocolate, shavings
¼ cup strawberries, hulled and sliced
Banana Nut
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp natural nut butter
2 tbsp walnuts, chopped (optional)
½ banana, sliced
Pina Colada
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp coconut, shredded
1 tbsp almonds, slivered
¼ cup pineapple, diced
Combine all of the ingredients in a mason jar.
Add less milk or more milk based on how thick you prefer your oatmeal.
Shake well and refrigerate overnight.
Enjoy it cold, straight from the fridge or heat it up for a healthy, hot breakfast!

Homemade Oatmilk is a delicious alternative to dairy milk. It is cheap, quick and very easy to make. Adding some coconut flakes help the milk to hold itself better together.
I have used quick oats here but I have had better results (taste-wise) by using oat groats that are soaked overnight, drained and rinsed then used as per the same recipe.
Add more coconut if you like the taste better.
Oatmilk can be used in as a drink on its own, in tea / coffee, in smoothies, in baking (where dairy-free milk is called), in sauces (bechamel, vegan mac and 'cheese') and curries.
The oat pulp that is left after straining the milk can be used in cookies, cakes, bread or added to porridge. Here are a couple of videos where I've used it:

There are many benefits of drinking oatmilk, according to one website, it contains 10 minerals and 15 vitamins, including calcium and twice the amount of vitamin A than cows milk. It also contains iron; one cup is 10 % of the RDA of iron! It is also super low in fat, which means totally cholesterol free!

Recipe:
Oat milk (makes approx. 24 oz/ 7 decilitres)
Ingredients:
1 cup of rolled oats
3 cups of fresh cold water
2-4 dates, pitted (or 1-2 tbsp of maple syrup/agave)
a pinch of salt (enhances flavor)
optional:
1/2-1 tsp vanilla extract
Steps:
1. Soak the oats in water for min. 20 minutes or overnight
2. Drain the water after soaking, and place the oats in a blender
3. Add your dates, 3 cups of fresh water, salt and vanilla
4. Blend up, and using a fine sieve, sieve the oat milk
2-3 times to get a really smooth consistency
5. Serve up and enjoy! The milk will keep in the fridge for 4-5 days

No Bake Peanut Butter Oat Bars
makes 16 bars
Ingredients
1 cup natural peanut butter (no stir)
1/2 cup honey
2 tablespoons coconut oil
1/4 teaspoon salt (if your peanut butter does not contain salt)
3 1/2 cups old fashioned oats
1/3 cup dried cranberries (may sub chocolate chips or raisins)
Optional: 2 tablespoons flax seeds
Directions
Place the peanut butter, honey, coconut oil, and salt (if using) in a microwave safe bowl.

• 2 eggs, lightly beaten

• 1⁄2 cup packed brown sugar
• 1 Tbsp. baking powder
• 1⁄2 tsp. baking soda
• 1⁄2 tsp. cinnamon powder

• 1⁄2 cups carrots, grated
• 1⁄2 cup raisins
METHOD:
1. Pre-heat an over to 180°C (350°F).
2. Lightly grease a 9” X 5” loaf pan with oil and set aside.
3. In a large bowl, mix oats and milk.
4. Let it stand for 10 minutes.
5. Add crushed pineapple slices with the juice, eggs, oil and vanilla essence and mix well.
6. In another bowl, mix flours with brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon powder and salt.
7. Stir in carrots and raisins.
8. Add oat mixture to the flour mixture all at once and stir until moist. Don’t over mix.
9. Pour the batter smoothly into a pan and spread it evenly.
10. Bake the cake for 60 to 70 minutes or until the crust browns evenly.
11. Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool.
12. Once cooled, remove it from the pan and cut into pieces as desired.

this is my summer favourite : coconutty berry breakfast bowl with homemade oat milk. i have this every morning at the moment.
making your own oat milk is super easy and crazy cheap, so a good tip for everyone on a budget. also, it's so healthy with tons of nutrients and good energy. i usually make a lot at once and keep in the fridge, and it'll last me a few days. the same goes for the coconutty mix, just store it in a glass jar in the fridge for coming breakfasts.
