My name's Michael and I'm the Marketing Manager for Wild Frontiers. I'm here at the magnificent site of Persepolis in Iran. I've been in Iran for two weeks now and so far I've been enchanted by this fascinating country.
CITIES
The capital Tehran is most people's starting point, and in this busy city you can see ostentatious ornaments from the royal household in the crown jewels museum, and wander around the Shah's old residence, Golestan Palace. Just north of Tehran you can visit the Elburz Mountains for skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer.
But the real highlights lie elsewhere. In the off-the-beaten-track city of Yazd you'll find a cityscape dotted with the ingenious wind tunnels -- which could be described as the world's first air-conditioning system - the ancient Zoroastrian site of the Towers of Silence, the magnificent Friday Mosque and a number of beautiful palaces and gardens.
Shiraz meanwhile is a lovely university town, known as the city of poets, wine, literature and flowers, and is a real delight. I particularly loved visiting the atmospheric tomb of the Persian poet Hafez. In the evenings it has a magical atmosphere as people gather to read poetry and celebrate the life of this revered poet. Shiraz is also blessed with numerous picturesque mosques and beautiful gardens.
The jewel in the Persian crown is undoubtedly the beautiful city of Esfahan, which has one of the largest squares in the world in the breathtaking Naqsh Jahan Square and probably the most stunning Islamic architecture found anywhere. Esfahan is unbelievably picturesque, with its famed bridges and lively bazaars.
ANCIENT SITES
Iran has a long and rich history, with the Persian Empire at one point ruling over 44% of the world's population. The country is home to some world-class archaeological sites, including the rock-carved tombs of Nagsh e Rostam, where Darius the great is buried, and the spectacular Achamaenid palace complex at Persepolis. This ancient palace was built by Darius the Great to celebrate events such as the Persian New Year, when representatives from the four corners of the empire would congregate. This vast site merits at least a couple of hours to explore the ruins and bas reliefs.
SCENERY
But it's not only about the cities and ancient sites, the scenery of Iran is an unexpected highlight. From beautiful picnic spots such as the Murgon Waterfalls, to fertile valleys in the Bavanat Mountains, where you can encounter Kashqai nomads and see a way of life that has changed little over centuries. In the Dena mountains around Yasuj you'll find an alpine scenery of snow-capped mountains, lakes and streams. It is well worth spending some time away from the better-known cultural sites to explore this lesser-known side of Iran. It really is a beautiful country.
THE PEOPLE
The people of Iran are another real highlight, being welcoming and keen to engage in conversation about everything from politics to football. You are likely to be surrounded by schoolkids asking you questions, offered tea and invited to share in picnics with the locals pretty much wherever you go.
If ever a people were misrepresented by a regime it would be the Iranians. Thanks to a baby boom in the 80's, over 60% of its 70 million population are aged under 30. This generation is well-educated, worldly, and exposed to global media through the internet. Walking around the streets -- which are incidentally very safe - this certainly feels like a nation on the cusp of change.
So forget about any preconceptions you may have about safety, security, or the welcome you'll receive in Iran. I've found the people to be the friendliest and most hospitable I've found anywhere in the world. So check out Wild Frontiers' tours to Iran and discover for yourself this fascinating country.

When it comes to Tehran, it's impossible to avoid politics and easy to overlook the Iranian city's thriving culinary scene. In our first installment of The MUNCHIES Guide to Tehran, our host Gelareh Kiazand introduces us to the bustling street food offerings in the city.
We begin our journey at the capital city's Grand Bazaar, since that's where commodities first arrive. Gelareh beelines for the market's food stands, where she samples dried fruits and nuts while waiting out the line at Moslem Restaurant, frequented by up to 5,000 kebab connoisseurs daily—well worth it for her favorite tah chin. At the more modest and bygone Tajrish Bazaar, she's the proverbial kid in a candy store, wading through copper and carpet vendors in search of sweet snacks, such as grape molasses and lavasak (fruit leather).

Travel video about destination Kerman in Iran.
Kerman is one of many ancient cities in today's Iran and is located on a plateau at the edge of the Lut Desert on an important caravan route. Ardashir, ruler of the Sassanids, founded the city, and its Friday Mosque was built during Mongolian rule. Following Islamic conquest, the city had many rulers. After Teheran and Yazd, Kerman has the third largest community of followers of the teachings of Zarathustra. The Ganj Ali-Khan Mosque is a small mosque that was named after the Safavid governor who ruled the city in the seventeenth century. The huge Vakil, or Regent Bazaar, has a seven hundred and fifty metre covered main alley that is always full of life. At any time of day almost everything can be purchased here under its brick vaults sheltered from the intense desert heat. In semi-darkness the ceilings of the bazaar streets contain an array of intriguing architectural designs and amazing ornaments. The centre of Kerman exudes its historic past as well as its former prosperity.

Travel video about destination Yazd in Iran.
The ancient desert city of Yazd is located within the centre of the State Of Iran and is one of the country’s oldest cities, set like a string of pearls along the Kavir coast. It is also a centre for the followers of the Zarathustra faith, the pious predecessors of Islam who fled to the city to escape Arab persecution. A small square is situated in the middle of the Old Town district of Fahadan, flanked by historic buildings such as a prison where, according to legend, Alexander The Great held captive various Achaemenid dignitaries and which was later used as a school. The narrow streets of the historic Old Town mainly consist of mud-built buildings with partially covered corridors, domes and numerous wind towers. The maze of narrow streets in which several single-storey buildings are still inhabited has been designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The city’s largest water storage tank is dominated by six wind towers that capture the slightest breeze that in turn cool down the stored water. Nearby, Agh-E-Dolat A-Bad, the magnificent palace residence of Mohamma Taqui Khan Bafqi who was Governor of Yazd from 1747 A.D. Yazd is not only an ancient culture, it is also an Oriental dream!

In this version, the last episode of Iran Travel Guide, Mohsen Nazaran , the host of the show traveled to Kish Island. It is part of the Hormozgan Province of Iran. Due to its free trade zone status, it is touted as a consumer's paradise, with numerous malls, shopping centres, tourist attractions, and resort hotels. Then he went to Tezerj waterfall in Hormozgan Province. Then, to The Borujerdi House, a historic house in Kashan. The house was built in 1857. It consists of a rectangular beautiful courtyard, delightful wall paintings by the royal painter Kamal-ol-molk, and three 40 meter tall wind towers which help cool the house to unusually cool temperatures. The house took eighteen years to build using 150 craftsmen. Then he went to Abyaneh, Shemshak ski resort in Tehran, Chehel Sotoun in Isfahan, the old bazzar of Isfahan and Shoormast lake in Mazandaran province.

Climbing Mt. Damavand was everything we expected and more. We arrived in Iran wanting to climb this Volcano and quietly confident we would be able to reach the summit. Only after our first night at the camp did our doubts start to arise. The altitude got to us and we really struggled to sleep at night. We chose not to hire a guide after meeting some Polish guys who had just arrived back from Damavand. They assured us it was quite achievable without a guide, although i would recommend a guide for anyone who likes piece of mind. There were a few occasions on our adventure when a guide would have come in handy. But at the end of the day we made it and I’m sure anyone else could have. It was very physically demanding but in saying that, there was a group of european middle aged people doing the hike the same day as we did and some of them would have been 40-50 years old. Although they were hiking a lot slower they still reached the summit. I would recommend anyone going to Iran to at least go to the bottom of the mountain and check it out. The wild poppies are beautiful and the mountain itself is a masterpeice! Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further questions or information in regards to climbing Mount Damavand. We found it extremely hard to find good information before our climb so i will happily answer any questions to help inform anyone wishing to make the climb. Thank you Mt Damavand!

VIENNA — The United States and European nations lifted oil and financial sanctions on Iranand released roughly $100 billion of its assets after international inspectors concluded that the country had followed through on promises to dismantle large sections of its nuclear program.
This came at the end of a day of high drama that played out in a diplomatic dance across Europe and the Middle East, just hours after Tehran and Washington swapped long-held prisoners.
With the start of the so-called implementation day, the day that the accord goes fully into operation, the structures are finally in place for Tehran to re-engage with the world after decades of isolation.
But even in a week that started with the release of 10 sailors who drifted into Iranian waters — the Defense Department still has not provided an explanation of how that happened — and ended with a prisoner swap that seemed drawn from the pages of the Cold War, it was far from clear whether Tehran would choose to re-engage — at least very quickly.
In Tehran and Washington, political battles are still being fought over the merits and dangers of moving toward normal interchanges between two countries that have been avowed adversaries for more than three decades. But Mr. Kerry suggested that the nuclear deal had broken the cycle of hostility, enabling the secret negotiations that led up to the hostage swap. It was far from a sure thing: Just weeks ago, Iran was demanding the release of nearly 20 Iranians convicted or indicted in the United States; an administration official said that number had been whittled down to seven, but even that still rankled some.
“Critics will continue to attack the deal for giving away too much to Tehran,” said R. Nicholas Burns, who started the sanctions against Iran that were lifted Saturday as the No. 3 official in the State Department during the George W. Bush administration. “But the fact that Iran’s nuclear ambitions will be effectively frozen for the next 10 to 15 years is a real advantage for us,” he said, adding that “it was achieved by tough-minded diplomacy and not war.”

Historic Deal Lifts Iran Sanctions
US officials say a fifth American, student Matthew Trevithnick, has also been freed, but that his release was not part of the prisoner swap.
Seven Iranians, being held in prisons across the US, have been released in return.
Western powers imposed sanctions on Iran over fears it was planning to use its atomic programme to develop nuclear weapons, although Tehran always maintained its nuclear ambitions were peaceful.
It is thought that since 2012 the sanctions have cost Iran some £102bn in oil revenues alone.

Sanctions End As Iran Sticks To Nuclear Promises
Iran Sanctions Lifted
Crippling economic sanctions on Iran have been lifted as the UN confirms Tehran has drastically scaled down its nuclear programme.
The UN's nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), says Tehran has fulfilled its side of last year's landmark nuclear deal with six world powers.
"Iran has carried out all measures required under the (July deal) to enable Implementation Day (of the deal) to occur," the Vienna-based agency said in a statement.
In return, the United States, European Union and United Nations have lifted a raft of nuclear-related sanctions.
The move will allow Iran to immediately recoup some $100bn (£70bn) in assets frozen overseas.

Five Americans, including a Washington Post reporter, Jason Rezaian, were released by Iran hours before the nuclear accord was implemented. The detention of one of the released Americans, Matthew Trevithick, who had been engaged in language studies in Tehran when he was arrested, according to his family, had never been publicly announced.
The release of the “unjustly detained” Americans, as Mr. Kerry put it, came at some cost: Seven Iranians, either convicted or charged with breaking American embargoes, were released in the prisoner swap, and 14 others were removed from international wanted lists. Many of the presidential candidates, including Senator Marco Rubio of Florida and Donald J. Trump, denounced the swap as a sign of weakness, and they have long promised to review or withdraw from the nuclear agreement.
Mr. Rezaian was held in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison for practically all of his incarceration, and spent the first several months in solitary confinement. He suffered vision problems and relatives said he lost about 40 pounds. It wasn’t until about a year ago that the Iranian authorities publicly explained the nature of the charges against him.
His mother, Mary Rezaian, who lives in Turkey and went to Tehran last June to be closer to her son, said then that he had only just become aware of the global support for him, including an appeal for his release from Muhammad Ali, the former heavyweight boxing champion. Mr. Rezaian’s mother said she was permitted to visit him only occasionally and said it had become “ever harder” for him to cope.
Then, several weeks ago the Iranians leaked news that they were interested in a swap of their own citizens, which American officials said was an outrageous demand, because they had been indicted or convicted in a truly independent court system.
But behind the scenes, one senior American official said, “it was clear this would be the only way.” There was discussion inside the administration of similar swaps during the Cold War, a practice moviegoers have been reminded of recently in “Bridge of Spies,” about the negotiations to win the release of Francis Gary Powers.
Mr. Kerry insisted that the two sets of negotiations were completely separate, but he acknowledged they were related: The intense diplomatic contact with Iran — Mr. Kerry has spent more time with his American-educated Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, than any other foreign minister — made the prisoner talks possible.

Both the European Union and the United Sates announced on Jan. 16 to lift sanctions over Iran under the historic nuclear deal after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed all the preparation steps have been completed by Tehran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini jointly announced in Vienna, Austria, the implementation day of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) - the historic deal reached last July - after the UN nuclear agency confirmed Iran's compliance of its commitment under the deal.
"As Iran has fulfilled its commitment, today multinational and national economic and financial sanctions related to Iran's nuclear program are lifted in accordance with the JCPOA," announced Mogherini.
IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said before the press conference that Iran has done all the steps to fulfill its commitment, including freezing much of its nuclear material production that could be used to build nuclear bombs.
Iran also promises to provide more transparency of its nuclear program, letting the IAEA be able to monitor Tehran's atomic plan.
Under the nuclear deal this would trigger a comprehensive relief of the nuclear related sanctions imposed on Tehran simultaneously by the U.S., the EU and the UN security council, especially the oil embargo.
Shortly after the IAEA announcement, U.S. President Barack Obama on Saturday also signed an executive order to lift sanctions on Iran related to its nuclear program, the White House said.
Following the EU-Iran press conference, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry also met reporters at the same site, saying that the US decided to lift nuclear-related sanctions over Iran since IAEA confirmed that Iran has kept its promises.
He said Tehran could only use the atomic energy for peaceful purpose, adding that Iran needs to be also compliant to their commitment in the coming years.
Kerry said the implementation day is a historic one since it proves that negotiations rather than war can be deployed to resolve problems.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has hailed the implementation of the nuclear deal with the P5+1 countries as a historic moment, saying THAT has opened a new chapter in the relations with the world.
President Rouhani has said in a statement that the implementation of the JCPOA ended the unfair sanctions against Iran, while ensuring its nuclear rights. Rouhani said the lifting of sanctions helps the Iranian economy integrate into the global economy. He noted that Iran will still adhere to the principles of resistance economy in the post-sanctions era. The president stressed that the implementation of the nuclear deal is a result of Iran’s resistance and insistence on negotiation rather than confrontation. Rouhani also said that Iran’s nuclear case is no longer considered a security issue. He further underlined that the implementation of the deal poses no threat to any country. Also in separate comments made at Iran’s parliament, President Rouhani said that all are happy about the implementation of the deal, except the Zionists, warmongers, hardliners in the US, as well as those who seek to divide the Muslim world.

PM, COAS to visit Iran, S. Arabia for mediation
Pakistan has decided to launch a mediation effort to end the standoff between Iran and Saudi Arabia amid growing international fears that a prolonged confrontation could have serious consequences for the region.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army chief Gen Raheel Sharif would travel to Riyadh and Tehran together on Monday in an attempt to persuade them to de-escalate and resolve their disputes diplomatically.
Islamabad’s surprising move caught Pakistani and Iranian diplomats unawares. Foreign Ministry officials, who had this week briefed the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, had said the time was not right for mediating between the two countriess. The government had also this week cancelled a scheduled visit of Defence Minister Khawaja Asif to Iran for discussing defence ties.
It was not clear whether any fresh development had prompted the government to start mediation.
A senior source confided in Dawn that the mediation effort was Gen Raheel Sharif’s initiative. The source said the general had cautioned Saudi ministers, who met him last week, that tensions were harmful for the entire region.

At the time of the Egyptian crisis, Ahmad Mustafa, an economic and political analyst from Egypt, finds an opportunity to travel to Iran to meet and talk Sunni people; an 11000 kilometer journey; a memorable visit, from the country’s most important decision-making centers to its most outlying border areas, from the green strands of the Caspian Sea forests to the Khorasan and Baluchistan desert areas and the high mountains of Kurdistan. On this journey he hopes he will know the real Iran, a country frequently misrepresented by Western and Arab media. How Sunni Muslims live in a Shiite country? That’s the question that’s brought Ahmad Mustafa to Iran.

Speaking with NPR's Steve Inskeep, President Obama argued that the Iran nuclear deal "cuts off all pathways for Iran getting a nuclear weapon" and offers "an entire infrastructure that's built to keep track of what Iran's doing." About the likelihood that a Republican-controlled Congress will reject the deal, the president said that such a move reflects the opposition of "a near unanimous portion of Republican representatives" to "anything I do.” But he offered that once the agreement is implemented, that opposition will “probably be forgotten.”

The US presidential elections are just around the corner, the great fight for the seat of power. However, while Democrats and Republicans are all over the mainstream media, there are still those candidates who are forced out of the debate. The so-called "third parties" - what do they have to propose for the American people? Why is their agenda so scary for the Dems and GOPs that they try hard not to let their voice be heard? Iran has the world's 24th largest railway network and is endeavoring to expand it. The Rouhani administration has increased the rail transportation budget five-fold this year which ends March 20 2016.
Because of the western sanctions on Tehran's nuclear program, the import of railway equipment and parts into Iran has dramatically decreased, creating an opportunity for domestic manufacturers to roll up their sleeves and build their parts by relying on their own resources.

Filmed at the Emmanuel Centre in London on 2nd November 2015.
What’s not to like? The deal reached between Iran and six world powers in July is a major diplomatic breakthrough. In exchange for Tehran halting its nuclear weapons programme, the West will lift the sanctions that have been crippling Iran’s economy for the last decade. The deal was hailed by President Obama as ‘a historic understanding’ and met with cheers of approval from around the world. Of course, the agreement doesn’t guarantee that Iran will never get the bomb some time in the future. But its supporters argue that in a complex world it’s the best option going. There will be no pre-emptive strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities for at least 10 years. The freeing up of over £100 billion of frozen assets will increase Iran’s stability, and the improved communication and trade between Iran and other countries will strengthen the hand of those Iranians who want their nation to be part of the modern world. The deal is a major step towards making the world a safer place.
That’s the line of those who support the deal. But to others, including Israel’s prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu, it’s not so much a historic understanding as a terrifying historic mistake. The Iranians, they say, have a track record of wily negotiating. Once the agreement’s restrictions expire in around 2025, what is there to stop the mullahs cranking up their nuclear programme and producing the bomb? In the meantime, relaxing sanctions will allow the Tehran to channel ever more funds to murderous regimes such as Assad’s Syria, and the terrorist organisations Hamas and Hezbollah. Furthermore, by cosying up to the Shiite Iranians, the West risks alienating its Sunni allies in the Middle East and leaving Israel feeling even more dangerously exposed.
Will the deal avert war and give moderate Iranians the time they need to bring their country in from the cold? Or will it do no more than put a hold on Iran’s nuclear ambitions and allow the mullahs to ramp up their dangerous meddling in the region? Alan Dershowitz, one of America’s most formidable and celebrated lawyers, and Emily Landau, one of Israel’s top nuclear proliferation experts, went head to head with senior politicians Norman Lamont and Jack Straw, both impassioned advocates of rapprochement with Iran.
