Bhopal Shatabdi Express is a train operated by the
Northern Railway which runs between New Delhi, the main railway station of India's capital territory, New Delhi, and Bhopal Junction the main railway station of
Bhopal City, the state capital of central
Indian state of
Madhya Pradesh. The train is the fastest train in India with the top speed of
150 km/hr (93.2 mph).The train commenced service in
1988 and was the first Shatabdi train to be introduced. The train runs at an average speed of 91 km/h (57 mph), excluding halts and touches a top speed of 150 km/h (93.2 mph) on the
313 km New Delhi-Agra stretch, which is the fastest for a train in
India.
The trains are fully
Air-conditioned and of a much higher standard than most
Indian rail coaches.
Shatabdi Express travelers are provided with snacks, meals, coffee/tea, a one litre water bottle/ 300ml packaged water (for short distance journey) provided by the railways owned and operated subsidiary '"
Rail Neer", and juice.
The train runs on new imported
LHB coaches on all days . The cost of meals, breakfast etc. is all covered in the booking fare.
The train runs across the tourism hub of India covering major tourist cities like New Delhi,

The train runs as a day train, and completes one side journey of around
701 km (436 mi) in 8 hours 05 minutes and it returns to New Delhi station at night.
WAP-5 are originally
Swiss ABB technology based electric locomotives of
Indian Railways, after the initial batch of locos that were directly imported, thereafter the transfer of technology , Indian Railways then started manufacturing these locos at its own electric locomotive manufacturing unit at
Chittaranjan Locomotive Works . These locos are currently the fastest locos in India which run at 150 km/hr with Bhopal Shatabdi and have a speed potential of 225 km/hr. At present ( as on 14-November-2012) , WAP-5 locos are homed at only two electric sheds in India , the
Ghaziabad ( GZB )
ELS and
Vadodara (
BRC) ELS.
