Tina Fey and Ronda Rousey to Star in ‘Do Nothing Bitches’ for Universal

5 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Universal Pictures has acquired the Paula Pell pitch “Do Nothing Bitches” with Tina Fey and Ronda Rousey attached to star.

Story follows wealthy pampered wives who get a rude awakening at a camp where Rousey plays the no-nonsense instructor.

Pell, who most recently penned the Universal comedy “Sisters,” which also starred Tina Fey, will pen the script. Fey will produce “Do Nothing Bitches” via her Little Stranger Productions banner along with Pell, and Little Stranger’s Eric Gurian will executive produce. Evp Production Erik Baiers will oversee for the studio.

Though “Star Wars” demolished almost every film in its way during the holiday season, “Sisters” worked as solid counter-programing, bringing in $77 million at the domestic box office so far. Fey can be seen next in “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot,” which bows in March, opposite Margot Robbie.

While Rousey has become a global brand through her Ufc career, she has slowly begun »

'Mercy Street': TV Review

With its first originally produced scripted series since 2002, PBS invites viewers to debate which scenario is more precarious, seeking emergency medical treatment in the technological dark ages of the Civil War or attempting to make an accent-heavy period drama with a cast of American TV stars. Fortunately, the answer is the former. Premiering on Sunday (January 17), Mercy Street milks ample drama from the terrifying prospect of facing even the most minor of procedures in an era in which anesthesia was considered unnecessary and the most scientific testing involved sniffing. Straight Outta Compton” producer Will Packer has weighed in on the 2016 Oscar nominations’ lack of diversity.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Packer applauded performances by performers of color and called his fellow Academy members to action, pleading with them to focus on hiring minorities in the future. He also mentions that the all-white acting nominees and the resulting #OscarsSoWhite Twitter trend cast a shadow on the entire ceremony.

“But who I really want to applaud are some other actors, directors and producers who were at the top of their game this year,” Packer wrote. “A list that includes, but is not limited to, Idris Elba, Michael B. 'Angie Tribeca': TV Review

I fully endorse the weird promotional tactic that TBS is employing on Sunday with its newest comedy, Angie Tribeca: 25 (yes, 25) hours of non-stop, commercial-free showings of the 10-episode first season. Why? Because when you have a show this silly, you need to be all-in. And even though you can figure out the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink, non-stop joking of Angie Tribeca pretty quickly, immersing yourself in it utterly is really the way to go. If you have even the slightest resistance to things that are “ridonkulous” then you might as well avoid. The

CeeLo Green Kicks Off New Audience Network Music Series in Grand Style

As public launches go, the At&T Audience Network’s new series, simply referred to as “Audience Music” (at least for now), couldn’t have set the bar higher than Thursday night’s performance by CeeLo Green and Friends at the Theater At Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

The larger-than-life multi-talent, who most people know from his judging stint on NBC’s “The Voice” and his trademark kaftans, astounded with the depth and breadth of his set, performing a range of recent and classic material from his oeuvre, as well covering everyone from Frank Zappa to Lou Reed to Supertramp. But it was the format that was especially refreshing, with the singer/songwriter-rapper-producer powered by a world-class nine-piece, jazz-oriented band — including three backup singers — that would have done the late singer-provocateur Gil Scott-Heron proud. The prevailing fashion statement was robes.
