While countries like Sweden have instituted successful reforms, according the Kolm, the high taxation, powerful unions, and bloated bureaucracies in most European countries will lead to the collapse of the EU's economy. Kolm's advice to policy makers in the US? "Don't become Europe."
Kolm stopped by Reason's LA studio to talk about the economic situation in Europe, the fate of the Euro, and why America should not look to the Old World for financial advice.

Once again an attempt is made to fight crime and terrorism that only really punishes law-abiding citizens. Apparently the EU's response to terrorists using unregistered, fully automatic firearms that were illegally trafficked is to propose a ban on some semi-automatic firearms and tighten the control of deactivated and antique guns, which are unrelated to these attacks. How does that make any sense?

The European Union (EU) 
i/ˌjʊrəˈpiːənˈjuːnjən/ is an economic and political union or confederation of 27 member states which are located primarily in Europe. The EU traces its origins from the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) and the European Economic Community (EEC), formed by six countries in 1958. In the intervening years the EU has grown in size by the accession of new member states and in power by the addition of policy areas to its remit. The Maastricht Treaty established the European Union under its current name in 1993. The latest amendment to the constitutional basis of the EU, the Treaty of Lisbon, came into force in 2009.
The EU operates through a system of supranational independent institutions and intergovernmental negotiated decisions by the member states. Important institutions of the EU include the European Commission, the Council of the European Union, the European Council, the Court of Justice of the European Union, and the European Central Bank. The European Parliament is elected every five years by EU citizens.

David Vaughan Icke (pronounced /aɪk/, or IKE, born 29 April 1952) is an English writer and public speaker, best known for his views on what he calls "who and what is really controlling the world." Describing himself as the most controversial speaker in the world, he is the author of 19 books and has attracted a global following that cuts across the political spectrum. His 533-page The Biggest Secret (1999) has been called "the Rosetta Stone for conspiracy junkies."
Icke was a well-known BBC television sports presenter and spokesman for the Green Party, when in 1990 a psychic told him he was a healer who had been placed on Earth for a purpose, and that the spirit world was going to pass messages to him so he could educate others. In March 1991 he held a press conference to announce that he was a "Son of the Godhead" – a phrase he said later the media had misunderstood – and the following month told the BBC's Terry Wogan show that the world would soon be devastated by tidal waves and earthquakes. He said the show changed his life, turning him from a respected household name into someone who was laughed at whenever he appeared in public.

In this episode of Talking Heads, George Soros discusses his essay "A New Policy to Rescue Ukraine." Soros wrote the essay this month, calling on members of the European Union to behave as countries indirectly at war with Russia and to provide Ukraine with $50 billion to defend itself and kick-start political reforms. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s imperial ambition has unintentionally brought into being a new Ukraine that is adamantly opposed to endemic corruption and inefficient government. By offering assistance, Europe can foster an open society in Ukraine and protect itself from Russian aggression.
VICE News sat down with Soros to discuss why it is imperative that the EU wakes up and recognizes that the principles on which it was founded are at stake in Ukraine.

Refugees flooded into Europe this year in one of the largest mass movements of people in history.
They fled war and poverty with little more than some belongings on their backs... all hoping for a new start.
The United Nations announced this month that more than one million refugees had entered the European Union this year.
It said the record number is the result of an unprecedented level of disruption around the world.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been praised for open-door policies on resettling refugees. She told the German people in her New Year's Eve address that the crisis can be seen as an opportunity.

The youth exchange took place in Bistrita and other 3 rural areas (Rodna, Valea Mare and Valea Vinului and Arcalia) between the 7th and the 17th of September 2015 and reunited a number of 16 participants from both countries. The aim of the project was to rise the awareness of the participants - young people living in the urban and rural areas of these countries- about the importance of preserving and promoting the beauties and utility of the rural areas in order to facilitate tourist, economical and cultural development. As a final project result, the participants created this film.

It also is known within the culinary heritages of other European countries like Hungary, the Czech Republic and Austria. It is made from rolled dough that is wrapped around a stick, then grilled and topped with sugar and walnut mix. Nowadays, trdelník is very popular among tourists as a sweet pastry in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Skalický trdelník was registered in December 2007 as PGI (protected geographical indication) in the European Union. The registration application with the detailed description of the product was published in April 2007 in the Official Journal of the European Union.
The production of trdelník has a long tradition in the Slovak town of Skalica near the borders with Czech Republic. The original recipe was brought to Skalica at the end of the 18th century by a transylvanian cook of József Gvadányi, a Hungarian general in retirement. The original recipe was afterwards improved by the inhabitants of Skalica to its final form nowadays known as Skalický trdelník.
The civil association Skalický trdelník was founded at the end of 2004 with the goal of keeping the tradition of the original open fire Trdelník production. The name trdelník comes from trdlo, the wooden stake the cake is wrapped around for cooking which gives it its traditional hollow shape.

Galbraith, from the University of Texas, Austin; Ulrike Guérot, from the European Council on Foreign Relations; John N. Gray, Emeritus Professor at the London School of Economics; Christiane Lemke, Max Weber Chair in German and European Studies at New York University; and Emmanuel Todd, a social anthropologist at the National Institute of Demographic Studies in Paris.
