Evolution (Baxter novel)

Evolution is a collection of short stories that work together to form an episodic science fiction novel by author Stephen Baxter. It follows 565 million years of human evolution, from shrewlike mammals 65 million years in the past to the ultimate fate of humanity (and its descendants, both biological and non-biological) 500 million years in the future.

Plot summary

The book follows the evolution of mankind as it shapes surviving Purgatorius into tree dwellers, remoulds a group that drifts from Africa to a (then much closer) New World on a raft formed out of debris, and confronting others with a terrible dead end as ice clamps down on Antarctica.

Evolution (Nektar album)

Evolution is the tenth album by progressive rock band Nektar, released in 2004. It was the first Nektar album since 1977's Magic Is a Child to feature original drummer Ron Howden, who rejoined other founding members Roye Albrighton and Taff Freeman.

Xcalibur (ride)

Xcalibur is a spinning thrill ride at Six Flags St. Louis, that opened in Spring 2003.

History

Before being built at Great Adventure, Xcalibur was used in carnivals in Europe.

Six Flags Great Adventure (1999-2002)

Xcalibur was announced at Six Flags Great Adventure as Evolution, for the 1999 season along with 24 other attractions, known as War on Lines. Evolution was supposed to be built in Movietown but later the ride was built where Fantasy Fling was located in the Fantasy Forest section of the park. Before it opened the ride went through rigorous testings and state inspections. Since Evolution opened the ride faced multiple problems with operations on the control panel that few can operate. Just after four seasons at the park Evolution was removed and relocated to Six Flags St. Louis. Currently the new Fender Benders (bumper cars) are currently being constructed at the former site of Evolution and opened in Summer 2012.

Six Flags St. Louis (2003-present)

Evolution was relocated to Six Flags St. Louis and opened at the Missouri park in Spring 2003 as Xcalibur. During the relocation Xcalibur received a better control panel than before and enhanced Medieval theme elements. Also each of the 16 gondolas received a sound system where the ride operator can talk during the ride and play theme music. The ride is currently operating.

ANSI escape code

In computing, ANSI escape codes (or escape sequences) are a method using in-band signaling to control the formatting, color, and other output options on video text terminals. To encode this formatting information, certain sequences of bytes are embedded into the text, which the terminal looks for and interprets as commands, not as character codes.

ANSI codes were introduced in the 1970s and became widespread in the minicomputer/mainframe market by the early 1980s. They were used by the nascent bulletin board system market to offer improved displays compared to earlier systems lacking cursor movement, leading to even more widespread use.

Although hardware text terminals have become increasingly rare in the 21st century, the relevance of the ANSI standard persists because most terminal emulators interpret at least some of the ANSI escape sequences in the output text. One notable exception is the win32 console component of Microsoft Windows.

History

Almost all manufacturers of video terminals added vendor-specific escape sequences to perform operations such as placing the cursor at arbitrary positions on the screen. One example is the VT52 terminal, which allowed the cursor to be placed at an x,y location on the screen by sending the ESC character, a y character, and then two characters representing with numerical values equal to the x,y location plus 32 (thus starting at the ASCII space character and avoiding the control characters).

EMI (Extension: Easy Monthly Installment - Liya Hai Toh Chukana Padega!) is a 2008 Bollywood social film directed by Saurabh Kabra and starring Sanjay Dutt, Malaika Arora and Urmila Matondkar. The film released on 7 November 2008.

PolyEast Records

PolyEast Records (formerly EMI Philippines) is a record label in the Philippines. It is a member of the Philippine Association of the Record Industry and from 2008 until 2013, the international licensee of EMI.

History

It was inaugurated in 1977 as Canary Records by Orly Ilacad after resigning from Vicor Music due to a major conflict with then co-owner Vic Del Rosario. It became OctoArts International in 1978. It was the first record company that introduced Minus One in the market.

The label's prior international releases were distributed by Dyna Records under the name Dyna EMI until 1995, when it began a distribution deal with EMI & became OctoArts EMI. In 2002, after a series of restructure, it became EMI Philippines.

In 1997 Octoarts was also at its top peak when it introduced its top female pioneering artist Jessa Zaragoza, for her first album entitled "Just Can't Help Feelin" her famous single rose her to popularity distributing the song "Bakit Pa" and also released a film with the same title two years later with Octoarts Films and GMA Films which also led Jessa to finish her last final albums with Octoarts "Phenomenal" (1999) and "Siya Ba Ang Dahilan" (Is She The Reason?) (2000) and also released a compilation entitled The Best Of Jessa Zaragoza before she moved to top pioneering Filipino recording company Star Records.
