Patrick Henry Kelly (born 17 April 1946), known professionally as Henry Kelly, is a television presenter and radio DJ.
Kelly was born in Athlone, County Westmeath, Ireland, and educated at Belvedere College SJ, and at University College Dublin, where he was Auditor of the Literary and Historical Society. After university he worked as a journalist and was the Belfast-based Northern Editor of The Irish Times in the 1970s. He wrote How Stormont Fell in 1972, a work still highly regarded. In 1976, he moved to London to work on Radio 4's The World Tonight and then, in a complete career change from serious journalism, in 1980 moved into television. Kelly became a household name in the UK as part of the team presenting LWT's practical-joke show Game for a Laugh in the 1980s. From 1987 to 1996 he presented Going for Gold, a lunchtime TV quiz show on BBC1, where he developed the catchphrases "What am I?" and "Now you're playing catchup".
He also appeared as himself in an episode of dinnerladies in 1999.
Going for Gold is a British television game show that originally aired on BBC1 between 12 October 1987 and 9 July 1996. It has since been revived for Channel 5 from 13 October 2008 to 20 March 2009.
Going for Gold was originally broadcast on BBC1 from 12 October 1987 to 9 July 1996, usually, after the lunchtime broadcast of Australian soap opera Neighbours. It was presented by Irish broadcaster Henry Kelly, and its defining concept was that it featured contestants from different European countries who competed against each other to answer questions (all in English) to win a prize. The show was shown on BBC1 in the UK and on Super Channel (later NBC Super Channel) in Continental Europe and on BBC TV Europe (which carried a mix of BBC1 and BBC2 output up to its dissolution in early 1991).
The 1987–1996 run of the quiz show each week had seven contestants that spoke English (each representing a different European country) who would compete against each other for a place in the finals. The show followed a repechage format (now common, but then, unusual), whereby unsuccessful contestants from Monday's show would return on Tuesday, and so on throughout the week. Each episode lasted for 25 minutes, including four rounds.

Plot: The facts: journalist Zenia Arden is missing, her abandoned car is found with three pints of her blood splattered inside, and one of her fingers severed from her body is found close to the car. From these facts, the authorities believe there is no way she could have survived what looks to be a brutal slaying. Henry Kelly, her police officer secret boyfriend, believes he will be implicated as the murderer. Henry goes to his old friend John Grismer, an ex-police officer now insurance investigator, to help him uncover what happened to Zenia. In his search for the truth, John finds that Zenia's three supposedly closest friends - magazine editor Roz Andrews, university history professor Tony Fremont and yoga instructor Charis White - are all less than sad at Zenia's death, their lack of remorse which they are open about when questioned by John. Apparently, Zenia came unexpectedly and independently into each of their lives, made it great for a while before she did something intentionally to ruin their friendship. As John uncovers some of the information regarding Zenia's relationship with these three women, he finds that the bonds of friendship go deep.

Continental confrontation! Hosted by Henry Kelly, people from all parts of Europe come together in a challenge for a trip to the Seoul Olympics in 1988. The classic daytime gameshow instantly familiar to anyone who was off sick from school/work back in the late 80's to the early 90's! Included is a short Challenge featurette with interesting trivia from Henry Kelly and the shows producer. Sadly, I do not have any more than what is on this clip, but do enjoy the fantastic way he makes his entrance! And the set that looks like a load of giant Parma Violets stacked up....

Henry Kelly climbed to the top of the tree
He was only four or five
He took his big wheel to the top of the tree and tried to take a ride
Henry Kelly fell and screamed like hell as his body bounced off the branches
He fell from the top of the tree to the ground and there wasn't a tooth left in his mouth when he landed
And the grown ups said "Oh Henry, Henry Kelly don't you see you could have died?"
But the kids said "Henry Kelly you're our hero
You can't tell if somethings possible if you don't try"
Henry Kelly waited for his big teethe to grow in
Then he grew up and he is fine
And unless you've heard the story told you might not even notice that he has a crooked smile
So all you kids with over protective parents now listen here to me
Go out and try stuff, get dirty, get hurt, don't be so scared of everything
And the grown ups said "Oh Henry Henry Kelly don't you see you could have died?"
But the kids said "Henry Kelly you're our hero
Can't tell if somethings possible if you don't try"
Kids need to see that kids can be kids and maybe get hurt sometimes
They might break some bones or lose some teeth but they hardly ever die
I hope that legends still get passed from kid to kid these days
About the crazy stunts tried by other kids both long ago and far away
Like the one about girl that made a plastic parachute
Jumped off the roof and broke her knees
Or how Gerald McGuire lost one of his balls when he flipped his A TV
Or how Henry Kelly climbed to the top of the tree
He was only four or five
He took his big wheel to the top of the tree and tired to take a ride
