In this special report, Sky News gains exclusive access to the RAF's Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) squad.
Based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, the team is responsible for protecting Britain's skies and is ready to scramble, in Eurofighter Typhoon jets, at a moment's notice.
Defence Correspondent Alistair Bunkall goes inside the UK's top secret nuclear bunker and talks the pilots who would have to shoot down hostile aircraft.

It’s a twitchy time for most people around the world at the moment, and especially for those who live in France after the horrific terror attacks on Paris that took place on Friday.
And with the news that one of the alleged gunmen is currently on the run, paranoia is up tenfold. So much so, that users on social media believe they spotted that very man on a live Sky News broadcast over the weekend.
Brussels-born Salah Abdeslam, 26, is currently the key suspect in the investigation and was reportedly stopped by police after the attacks before sensationally being let go. And at around 0:14 in the below footage, people believe he strolls past the camera, and even winks before walking out of shot.
Mi5 ill be sending you a bill…..14 secs in,why would you walk down the road the wrong way to wink into a camera after a horrific attack in that very city ?
Posted by Craig Milne on Sunday, 15 November 2015
The consensus online is that the man is ‘walking the wrong way down the street’ and makes a conscious effort to gesture towards the camera. We can’t be certain if there is a wink, but it DOES look like he slightly grins at one point.
Obviously, these assumptions are very dangerous. Nobody can be certain if this man is in fact Salah Abdeslam, and at a time like this, it’s very easy to point the finger.
Let’s just hope the real Abdeslam is caught very soon.

Phil Campion, a former SAS soldier and a veteran of just about every major conflict zone in the world, travels to the front line in Syria and Iraq to meet the men and women taking the fight to Islamic State.
Known as 'Big Phil', he filmed for Sky with both the YPG and Kurdish Peshmerga, observing their war against a well-equipped and motivated enemy.
He experienced some of the worst battles of his life while embedded with the Kurds and met the all-female fighting units of the YPJ, described as a secret weapon of the war.
Are those fighting Islamic State properly equipped for battle? And is this a fight they can win? Find out in our special report.

The UK mass-market satellite TV revolution begins, with 4 channels from Sky (Sky Channel - eventually called Sky One - Sky News, Eurosport and - presumably to expensively drive demand - a temporarily-free-to-air Sky Movies)! What we have here is you would have seen had you owned a satellite dish and receiver at the time. Complete with ad breaks and programme trails for that authentic 'pioneer' experience!
Worth it for the documentary, which amongst other things emphasises satellite TV's ability to reach those poorly-served by the terrestrial transmitters. Of course, we had to wait nearly 10 years before Sky Digital brought these 'back-of-beyond' viewers the channels they were really after (and even then, ITV was still some time away from joining the platform).

(Daily Mail) A senior Sky News host today slapped a guest on the hand during a heated debate on whether parents should smack their children.
Colin Brazier appeared to grow increasingly exasperate with guest Tim Doble, a student who was arguing parents should not have physical contact with their child in anger.
Mr Doble said: 'In the heat of the moment... you cannot justify a really terrible action just because you are stressed with some sort of difficulty with your child.
'If you are a parent, your responsibility is not to lose your cool with your child.'
Mr Brazier repeatedly argued that parents often find themselves in an impossible situation and a small tap could help to bring children in line, before reaching out at taking Mr Doble by the hand.
The presenter, who has six children under the age of 14 with his wife Jo, told him that many parents would think: 'Until you have been there, you are talking out of your backside.'
Later in the debate he reassured Mr Doble that it was a one-off, joking: 'I'm not going to do it again Tim, don't run away.'
Mr Doble later took to Twitter to hit back at his critics, claiming he was being 'trolled' by viewers who disagreed with him.
Is it ever OK to smack your child? Politicians clash on parental discipline as exasperated Sky News presenter SLAPS anti-smacking student on live TV

Tells anti-smacking guest Tim Doble 'you're talking out of your backside'
A political row erupted today over whether parents should be able to smack their children.
Tory Education Secretary Nicky Morgan insisted people should be free to choose how they discipline their sons and daughters.
But Labour’s Ed Balls argued ‘it is wrong to smack children’ while Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg insisted every parent loses their temper sometimes.
And Sky News presenter Colin Brazier grew so exasperated at student Tim Doble saying parents should never touch their child in anger that he slapped him on the hand and told him he was ‘talking out of your backside’.
Under the law, there is no ban on smacking and parents are allowed to use ‘reasonable chastisement’.
However, they are not allowed to hit a child with an implement or so hard that it leaves a mark, or causes bruising, swelling, cuts, grazes or scratches.
It can be the source of fierce debate in Westminster and in households across the country about whether smacking is ever acceptable, and whether it should be banned in law.
Mrs Morgan, who was being grilled by schoolchildren on TV, insisted that there was a difference between a ‘light tap’ and inflicting serious pain.
She said: ‘I don't want to criminalise parents if that's the decision that they take to discipline their child.
‘There's what we have called reasonable chastisement. I don't know whether it is just a tap on the hand or a mild smack on the bottom but, I think, as politicians, we struggle with this all the time - when does government make a decision or when do we allow parents or carers to make that decision?’
She was taking questions from readers of childrens’ newspaper First News for the Hotseat show on Sky News.
The mother-of-one said the government should not be in the business of telling people how to bring up their children.
But she added: ‘There has to be a line, when we say, no, that is a line that you have crossed and that is a child that now needs support from other people... there have been some terrible cases where children have been abused and some, sadly, killed even by their own parents.’
Mrs Morgan was backed by her coalition colleague, Mr Clegg, who said he had not smacked his three boys but would not judge parents struggling with a disobedient child.
The Lib Dem Deputy Prime Minister said there ‘isn’t a simple legalistic answer on what the state tells parents to do’.
Speaking on his weekly LBC radio phone-in, he stressed that violence against children is ‘abhorrent’ and against the law, but disciplining children is ‘a slightly different thing’.
He revealed his own parenting woes: ‘I’ve had this, you have got one of your kids playing up badly in a supermarket, you pull them by the arm so they don’t pull all the baked bean tins down off the shelf. Is that reasonable chastisement?
We shouldn’t pretend it is easy that you can set down in a law… the point at which physical between a parent and a child which can sometimes be, well hang on a minute you have got to get in the car, or pick them up or whatever.
‘When does that become unreasonable chastisement?’

Refugees heading to Greece on people smugglers' boats are given a 'migrants handbook' packed with tips, maps, phone numbers and advice about getting across Europe.
Among discarded life jackets and punctured rubber dinghies, Sky News discovered a tattered copy of the unique travel guide washed up on a beach on the Greek island of Lesbos.
The booklet's cover features a photograph of a young man on a beach at sunset, looking longingly out to sea, with oars at his feet as he prepares to make the treacherous crossing.
The 'rough guide' is written in Arabic and contains phone numbers of organisations which might help refugees making the journey, such as the Red Cross and UNHCR.
Among those behind the booklet is a George Soros organisation called w2eu, which means 'Welcome To Europe'.

Sky News has been given extraordinary access to South Africa's new Rapid Response anti-poaching unit to witness the efforts being made to stem the deaths of rhinos in the country's largest national park.
The latest official figures on rhino deaths are extremely disappointing. Despite all the increased efforts and extra money being used to fight the rhino wars, the number of rhinos poached is up by nearly 30% in the Kruger National Park.
But the teams on the frontline insist they are winning.

Morocco is a North African country that has a coastline on both the North Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. It has borders with Western Sahara to the south, Algeria to the east and the Spanish North African territories of Ceuta and Melilla on the Mediterranean coast in the north. It is just across the Strait of Gibraltar from Gibraltar.

==================
At just a few hours from the main European cities, Morocco has everything to overwhelm you with the amazing colors, smells and sounds of Islamic Africa. Imagine bustling souqs and spice markets, stunning mosques, white-washed sea side towns and medieval city centres. With panoramic views varying from snow-covered peaks in the High Atlas to the endless sand dunes of the Sahara, no-one ever has to be bored in this beautiful country.
Movie-famous Casablanca might be the most famous of Moroccan cities and is home to the huge Hassan II mosque, the second largest mosque in the world with only the Grand Mosque of Mecca surpassing it. Many travellers quickly leave this vibrant and modernist metropolis on a search for a more traditional Moroccan experience, but admiring the impressive colonial architecture, Hispano-Moorish and art-deco outlook of the city centre is actually time well spent. Marrakesh, known as the "Red City" and probably the most prominent former imperial capital, will leave you with memories to cherish for life. Spend your days wandering through the lively souqs, admiring the old gates and defensive walls, see the Saadian Tombs, the remnants of the El Badi Palace and visit the Koutoubia Mosque with its 12th century minaret. However, when evening falls make sure to head back to Jamaa el-Fnaa, the largest square in Africa, as it fills up with steam-producing food stalls. Indulge in the bustling activity there, listen to Arabic story tellers, watch magicians and Chleuh dancers. Fez, once Morocco's capital, is another gorgeous imperial city. Get lost in its lovely labyrinth of narrow Medieval streets, enjoy its huge medina, see the beautiful city gates, the ancient University of Al-Karaouine and the Bou Inania Madrasa. Also, make sure to visit a traditional leather tanning factory. The city of Meknes is often called the "Versailles of Morocco" for its beauty. Its lovely Spanish-Moorish style centre is surrounded by tall city walls with impressive gates and you'll be able to see the 17th century blend of European and Islamic cultures even today.
For a more laid-back experience of city life, catch a sea breeze at Asilah or lovely Essaouira. The blue-washed town of Chefchaouen is an old time travellers' favourite and a great starting point to explore the impressive High Atlas Mountains. Climb Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North-Africa, passing lovely adobe villages and exploring the gorgeous Ourika and Amizmiz valleys on the way. The stunning panoramic view from the top will make it worth every bit of your effort to get there. Other praised hiking routes lead through the beautiful Ameln Valley in the Anti-Atlas and the wooded Rif Mountains in the very north.
Hop on a camel back for a trip through the golden Sahara sand dunes at Erg Chebbi, near Merzouga. Spend the night in a desert tent, under the incredibly starred sky. The Sahara is also accessible near the town of Zagora; it's easier to get to from Marrakech but doesn't have the imposing dunes of Erg Chebbi. Somewhat less easy to reach but therefor also less crowded are the dunes of Erg Chigaga near M'hamid. On your way to the desert, make sure not to miss the stunning Todra gorge near Tinghir. The ancient fortified city of Aït-Benhaddou is another must-see sight. Although rainstorms damage the mud-brick kasbahs time and again, this mostly abandoned village remains an impressive sight and has been the decor for a range of movies, including Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator.

Hammams
========
There are two types of Hammam (steam baths) across Morocco.
The first is the tourist hammam, where you can go and be pampered and scrubbed by an experienced staff member. As these are promoted only to tourists they are the more expensive option with pricing usually around DH 150 for a hammam. They can not be technically referred to as a proper hammam, but they are nonetheless enjoyable, especially for the timid. Your hotel can recommend a good one.
The second option is to visit a "popular" Hammam. Popular hammams are the places where the locals go. Ask the staff at your hotel where they would go.

Hammams
========

See in Morocco
==================
North Korea lies somewhere between a 1930′s Soviet Union frozen in time and a dark, futuristic vision of society... as imagined back in the 70′s.
"Land of Whispers" invites you to visit arguably the most unique and isolated travel destination in the world - not to criticize, but to observe and listen. Aside from usual highlights such as Pyongyang or Arirang, this unique one-man documentary brings you to areas such as Chongjin or Wonson, still virtually unknown to even google or wikipedia. There, I attempt to pierce through the ever-present 'national mythology' and as much as possible, I try to connect with people - such as the waitress mesmerized by tablet computers, or a tour guide cautiously fascinated by modern pop culture.

Get more things to do in Kuala Lumpur, and travel tips: http://migrationology.com/2014/02/kuala-lumpur-travel-guide-food-lovers/
I'm Mark Wiens and thank you very much for watching this video about a few of the top things to do in Kuala Lumpur, a city that just happens to be one of my favorite cities to visit in Southeast Asia. It's the largest and probably the most important and influential city in Malaysia and truly has some amazing sites to offer. Along with modern skyrise towers like the Petronas Towers, there are still lots of traditional historic buildings as well. The awesome mixture of cultures, the mix of traditional and modern, and very importantly, the outstanding cuisine is what makes Kuala Lumpur such a great city to explore!
1. On this list of top things to do in Kuala Lumpur I first stop by the most famous landmark of the the city: the Petronas Towers. These twin giant sky scrapers are huge, and they literally reach towards the heavens and touch the clouds. On the bottom of the Petronas Towers is a pretty fancy shopping mall while the tops of the towers are filled with offices. On the 41st and 42nd floor, there is a sky bridge which connects the two towers together and which is open for visitors. Years ago, it used to be free entrance but unfortunately now they have started to charge a rather steep 80 Malaysian Ringgits per person.
2. After the visiting the Petronas towers, number two on the list is the historical district of old Kuala Lumpur. Visiting and walking around the area is one of the top things to do in Kuala Lumpur and you shouldn't miss the opportunity. From Merdeka Square to the old railroad station, you'll see some amazing architecture and buildings. Another must visit is the National Mosque, which is known as Masjid Negara. With a capacity of 15,000, this is the central and most visited mosque in the city.
3. The Menara KL Tower, along with the Petronas Towers, is one of the dominating features of Kuala Lumpur's skyline. At 421 meters in height, it's one of the world's tallest communications towers. I was lucky enough to be invited to the annual BASE jumping event which was held at the KL Tower so I had a pass to go to the top for the incredible view and to see the event (http://migrationology.com/2012/10/jordan-kilgore-base-jump-kuala-lumpur/). The KL Tower also offer look out viewpoints and a number of restaurants where you can dine with an incredible view.
4. Number 4 is Little India which is better known as Brickfields. Kuala Lumpur is home to many Indian's many from the south of the country. Brickfields is a popular place to browse, shop for all sorts of Indian products and most importantly to eat at some seriously delicious Indian restaurants. If you're looking for good Indian food in Kuala Lumpur, check out this restaurant: http://migrationology.com/2012/11/south-indian-food-kuala-lumpur-vishalatchi/
5. Chinatown, located on Petaling Street, is one of the biggest Kuala Lumpur attractions. It's mostly known for it street shopping and restaurants. You can find all sorts of fake brand names and nearly everything imaginable.
6. Thean Hou Temple is one of the most impressive Daoist temples in Kuala Lumpur. It's free to visit and offers insights into the Hainanese community in the city and there are also great views of the city.
7. Central Market, is a top tourist shopping attraction in Kuala Lumpur. Though many of the products are rather touristy, there are some good things waiting to be found.
8. Within central Kuala Lumpur are the KL Lake Gardens and Bird Park. It makes a great tropical escape to the bustling city life.
9. The Batu Caves, located just outside the central part of the city is one of the best things to do in Kuala Lumpur. The caves and shrines are one of the most sacred Hindu sites outside of India.
10. Chow Kit Market is the central fresh wet market in the city. Everyday thousands of shoppers get their Malaysian food ingredients at this interesting market.
11. Malaysian food is the ultimate attraction to visiting Kuala Lumpur. With a great mixture of local Malay, Chinese, and Indian, there's no shortage of incredible dining that will leave you satisfied and hungry for more! For myself, eating is one of the best things to do in Kuala Lumpur!
Hope you enjoyed this list and hope you have a wonderful visit!

Troops may soon be sent in to try to sort out the gang warfare in the South African city of Cape Town.
The country's largest trade union group (COSATU) and the premier of the Western Cape, Helen Zille, have recently both sent letters to South African president Jacob Zuma, calling for intervention to sort out the problem.
The president's office has said he will take advice from the police on the ground. Soldiers were sent into certain targeted hotspots last December apparently improving safety levels dramatically.
The latest calls come at a time when the violence between gangs appears to be increasing.
More than two dozen people have been killed in the past few months after being caught up in the fighting between the rival gangs.
There was talk of a "truce" between certain gangs but according to those Sky News spoke to there is fighting virtually every night.
The Sky News team managed to gain access to one of the gangs and was given an extraordinary insight into the underbelly of one of South Africa's most beautiful cities.
They told us they were members of "the Americans" - a gang they said had about 100 members.
"Once you are a member, you are in it for life," Nash told Sky News.
"There's no way out."
All the men were out of work. Many had already been in prison, some several times, and they confessed to robbing, mugging and killing to buy food or to feed their drug habit.
"This is tik," Ringo explained to Sky News.
"It's crystal meth and we have to have our tik every day. If we don't get it, we get very aggressive.
"But with tic, we can do anything. I would kill Eyes (the gang's leader) and not even worry about it."

North Korean travel experts have slammed the BBC for putting local guides at risk, saying the country would hold them responsible for the actions of the journalists who posed as LSE students on a tour of the country.
And two tour guides speaking to HuffPost UK said it was relatively easy for anyone to visit the country, and even obtain a journalist visa.
The London School of Economics has expressed fury at BBC journalists who went undercover on a student trip to North Korea, claiming the corporation recklessly endangered students. The BBC claims the students were informed of the risks, necessary to take to get into the country.

Top Tourist Attractions in New Zealand
Milford Sound
========
Milford Sound is among the most famous tourist attractions in New Zealand. Lying at the most northern and accessible end of Fiordland National Park, Milford sound offers some of the world's most staggering coastal scenery with its dramatic peaks and dark blue waters. The area's frequent downpours only enhance this South Island beauty, sending numerous waterfalls cascading down the cliffs.
Bay of Islands
==========
The Bay of Islands is one of the most popular holiday destinations in New Zealand. The picturesque area contains 144 islands, many secluded bays and some great sandy beaches. This beautiful bay has an abundance of marine life including whales, penguins, dolphins and the big marlin. Not surprisingly, it is a popular tourist spot for sailing yachts on world cruises and international sport fishermen.
Tongariro National Park
===================
The first national park of New Zealand, Tongariro is known for its surprises and extremes. The park's diverse range of ecosystems includes tranquil lakes, active volcanoes, herb fields, untamed forests and desert-like plateaus. Start your trek at the Whakapapa Visitor Center, just a three hour hike from the stunning Taranaki Falls. The short hike will take you through scrubland and forest and across the lava line of volcanic eruptions from hundreds of years ago.
Rotorua
========
Rotorua is known as the thermal wonderland of New Zealand. There are numerous geysers and hot springs in and around the city. Many of these are in parks and reserves. Natural eruptions of steam, hot water and mud occasionally occur in new locations. Nearby Wai-O-Tapu is also a popular tourist attraction with many hot springs noted for their colorful appearance, in addition to the Lady Knox Geyser.
Franz Josef Glacier
=============
This glacier, located within Westland National Park in the southwest, is one of the world's most accessible. Visitors can walk right up to the foot of the massive glacier or take a helicopter ride over the dazzling Ice Age remnant. Together with Fox Glacier it is one of South Westland's major drawcards for tourists.
Kaikoura
========
This small coastal town on the South Island is a haven for seafood lovers. You can spot fur seals, dolphins, sperm whales and albatrosses off the shore, then indulge in a feast of fresh crayfish, mussels, blue cod and more. Land lovers can take a wilderness walk through the untamed and dramatic Kaikoura forest.
Napier Art Deco
========
Napier, a small city in Hawke's Bay on the North Island's east coast, is famous for its eye-catching art deco architecture. Most of Napier was leveled by an earthquake in 1931. The rebuilding period coincided with the short-lived Art Deco era and as a result Napier's architecture is strikingly different from any other city in the world. Thousands of tourist visit Napier every February for the Art Deco Weekend, an event dedicated to the style, vintage cars, picnics and the soapbox derby.
Sky Tower
===============
The Sky Tower is an observation and telecommunications tower located in New Zealand's largest city. At a height of 328 meters (1,076 ft) it is the tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere and the Sky Tower has become an iconic structure in Auckland's skyline. The tower offers views of up to 80 km away and fine dining in the Orbit revolving restaurant.
Abel Tasman National Park
===============
Located on the northern tip of the country's South Island, this vast national park is a hiker's dream. Closed to vehicles, one must enter by boat, foot or small plane, but the trip is well worth it. While traversing the mountainous terrain, blue penguins, wekas, oyster catchers, wood pigeons and other rare birds can all be seen.
Coromandel Peninsula
==============
This north-eastern peninsula is famous for its white and golden sand beaches that frame magnificent coastal scenery, forests perfect for days of exploration and other natural wonders. Start your visit in Thames, a small but picturesque city with a rich history of gold mining. Don't miss a stop at Hot Water Beach, where visitors can dig their own hot pool from the springs under the sands.
