We've had plenty of breaking news today with jury convictions, the local Kmart announcing its closure and yet another vehicle getting stuck under the Green Street bridge, but not every story can make the top 5 most-read. Let's look at today's top headlines; our fourth place slot might surprise you.
1. Longview arson victim: It was TYB gang
This was our top story by a mile today, as new information was revealed through Gregg County Appraisal District records and a victim's response about the locations involved in multiple arson incidents between Jan. 10 and Jan. 13.
2. Kmart in Longview closing in March, officials confirm
After posting up signs hailing liquidation sales of the store earlier today, Kmart officials confirmed the Longview location plans to close on March 13.
Plenty of Tuesday and Wednesday arrests gained plenty of attention from readers in today's Police Beat.
4. Witnesses testify in first day of Longview capital murder case
Strangely, a story from April 29, 2015 about a witness who testified in the capital murder trial of DeAundray Lamanze Rossum was very popular with readers, so much so that it made our No. 4 slot. The story details the testimony of Robert Perry.
5. Official: 2 Gilmer officers on leave after call ignored
"Allegedly there was a call to our police department for an officer, and they didn't go," City Manager Jeff Ellington said. "Nothing happened at the Wal-Mart. The problem we have is when an employee doesn't respond to a call."
