Our Daily Bleed...
"If you tell the same story five times, it's true."Larry Speakes, Reagan White House Press Secretary
Headed by Humphrey Bogart, & calling themselves "The Committee for the First Amendment", 50 representatives included such people as: Lauren Bacall, Groucho Marx, Frank Sinatra, John Huston, Ronald Reagan, & Danny Kaye....
When it is overthrown, the US supports Iraq's Saddam Hussein's war against Iran, despite (& publicly condemning) his use of chemical weapons. The Reagan administration, including the elder George Bush, provided this Axis of Evil with military intelligence, satellite photos & formulated battle plans. As one military observer put it, chemical weapons was just one more way of killing people.
On actors & politics, Reagan produced some real gems over the years:
"What does an actor know about politics?" –criticizing Ed Asner for opposing American foreign policy
"What makes him think a middle-aged actor, who's played with a chimp, could have a future in politics?" -on Clint Eastwood's bid to become mayor of Carmel
"Politics is just like show business. You have a hell of an opening, you coast for awhile, you have a hell of a closing."

FENCE THAT ONE IN, BULLDOZE IT
4 A.M.?— Diane di Prima, Revolutionary Letter #38
On one side of the barricades, Governor Reagan & his followers advocated unfettered private enterprise & supported the invasion of Vietnam. "The state of California has no business subsidizing intellectual curiosity."
On the other side, the hippies & students championed a social revolution at home & opposed imperial expansion abroad. In the year of the raid on People's Park, it seemed that the historical choice between these two opposing visions of America's future could only be settled through violent conflict. As Jerry Rubin, one of the Yippie leaders, said at the time:
'Our search for adventure & heroism takes us outside America, to a life of self-creation and rebellion. In response, America is ready to destroy us...'
"If it takes a bloodbath, let's get it over with."
"It's just too bad we can't have an epidemic of botulism."

According to an affidavit prepared by one of Rumsfeld's companions during his Mideast travels, former NSC staff member Howard Teicher, Rumsfeld also conveyed to Iraq an offer from Israel to provide assistance, which was rejected.

Peasants were the main victims of this war, along with labor organizers, students, priests or anyone suspected ofworking for the interests of the people. In Carter's last year, 1980, the death toll reached about 10,000, rising to about13,000 for 1981 as the Reaganites took command.
The role of the "moderate" Duarte was to provide a fig leaf for the military rulers and ensure them a continuing flowof US funding after the armed forces had raped and murdered four churchwomen from the US.
In March 1981, 15 specialists in counterinsurgency were sent to El Salvador from the US Army School of Special Forces to form the Atlacatl Battalion (an elite unit created, trained and equipped by the United States). The Battalion was engaged in mass murder. A US trainer described its soldiers as "particularly ferocious....We've always had a hard time getting them to take prisoners instead of ears."
In December 1981, the Battalion took part in an operation in which over a thousand civilians were killed in an orgy ofmurder, rape and burning. Later it was involved in the bombing of villages and murder of hundreds of civilians byshooting, drowning and other methods. The vast majority of victims were women, children and the elderly.
It was this same Battalion which in November 1989, murdered six Jesuit priests, their cook and her daughter.

We have a lot of scores to settle. There will be bodies from the border to Managua."
--- Contra officer, Newsweek, November 8, 1982
The manual was first revealed by the Baltimore Sun in January, but the US Media, including the Washington Post & the NY Times buried it. The manual was watered down in 1985 because of the stink that erupted in October 1984. That "psychological operations" manual advocated "selective use of violence" to "neutralize" civilian opponents & arranging other deaths for political advantage.

Audio .au format | Length: 2.5 min. || Size: 1,700K || Hear It: http://www.english.upenn.edu/~afilreis/88/Multimedia/baseball_7.auWatching baseball, sitting in the sun, eating popcorn,
reading Ezra Pound,
and wishing that Juan Marichal would hit a hole right through the
Anglo-Saxon tradition in the first Canto
and demolish the barbarian invaders.
When the San Francisco Giants take the field
and everybody stands up for the National Anthem,
with some Irish tenor's voice piped over the loudspeakers,
with all the players struck dead in their places
and the white umpires like Irish cops in their black suits and little
black caps pressed over their hearts,
Standing straight and still like at some funeral of a blarney bartender,
and all facing east,
as if expecting some Great White Hope or the Founding Fathers to
appear on the horizon like 1066 or 1776.But Willie Mays appears instead,
in the bottom of the first,
and a roar goes up as he clouts the first one into the sun and takes
off, like a footrunner from Thebes.
The ball is lost in the sun and maidens wail after him
as he keeps running through the Anglo-Saxon epic.
And Tito Fuentes comes up looking like a bullfighter
in his tight pants and small pointy shoes.
And the right field bleechers go mad with Chicanos and blacks
and Brooklyn beer-drinkers,
"Tito! Sock it to him, sweet Tito!"
And sweet Tito puts his foot in the bucket
and smacks one that don't come back at all,
and flees around the bases
like he's escaping from the United Fruit Company.
As the gringo dollar beats out the pound.
And sweet Tito beats it out like he's beating out usury,
not to mention fascism and anti-semitism.
And Juan Marichal comes up,
and the Chicano bleechers go loco again,
as Juan belts the first ball out of sight,
and rounds first and keeps going
and rounds second and rounds third,
and keeps going and hits paydirt
to the roars of the grungy populace.
As some nut presses the backstage panic button
for the tape-recorded National Anthem again,
to save the situation. But it don't stop nobody this time,
in their revolution round the loaded white bases,
in this last of the great Anglo-Saxon epics,
in the territorio libre of Baseball.
