In this brief video you can find seven little known facts about the Czech Republic. Formerly known as Bohemia, it was part of the Holy Roman Empire, Austria-Hungary and Nazi Germany and used to share it’s borders with now neighbouring Slovakia. The word Czech (meaning kinsman) comes from the legend of Lech, Čech, and Rus, the founding fathers of the Slavic nations.
More information about the video content bellow:
1. The first sugar cubes were made in the Czech Republic in 1841 after a sugar factory director’s wife got injured while trying to cut some pieces of sugar and suggested finding an alternative. Aah, love!
2. You can’t visit Prague without seeing the spectacular Prague Castle, the largest castle area in the world (70 000 square meters). Dating back to the 9th century Prague Castle has been the seat of the Kings of Bohemia, the Holy Roman Emperor and the presidents of Czechoslovakia and Czech Republic.
3. Czech Republic is west of the west. During the Cold War, Czechoslovakia was considered part of Eastern Europe. However Prague or Praha, the capital of Czech Republic, is actually further west than Vienna, Austria which is considered part of Western Europe. Historically speaking, the Czech Republic should be considered part of Central Europe rather than the Orthodox Eastern Europe.
4. In Prague beer is cheaper than bottled water. Beer prices get as low as 14 koruna a pint (that's $0.80 or 0.54 euros) whereas water costs about 35 koruna for a 0.33 litre bottle. By the way, the Czech Republic consumes more beer per capita than any other country in the world (161 liters/year). And who wouldn’t drink the famous Pilsen or Staropramen beers as often as decency allows it?
5. On December 5th Saint Mikuláš (St. Nicolaus) roams about with his consorts, an angel and a devil. He gives small presents and candy to children to reward them for their good behaviour throughout the year, while the devil chastises children for their wrongdoings over the course of the year and gives them potatoes, coal (or sometimes spankings) as a punishment. This holiday is actually a common tradition throughout all Central and Eastern Europe, all the way to Moldova.
6. Another tradtition is the annual Witch Burning or Night of Witches: on the last April evening bonfires are lit around the country and "witch" figurines, as a symbol of evil, are made and burned in the fire. This is the reinterpretation of the old pagan festival influenced by Christian inquisition. Because probably most Czechs would prefer the witches over the inquisitors, in many fires no witches are burnt, and the feast is celebrated in a more original pagan way - witches are those who should celebrate the night, not be burnt.
7. On the night of 20–21 August 1968, the Soviet Union and its main allies in the Warsaw Pact invaded Czechoslovakia in order to halt Alexander Dubček's Prague Spring political liberalisation reforms. In the operation approximately 500,000 troops, with Romania notably refusing to participate, attacked Czechoslovakia, leaving 500 Czechs and Slovaks wounded and 108 killed.

Hello Lost Ones! A new episode of The Lost Life for you, and this time I'm taking you to Prague in the Czech Republic better known as the city that looks like a fantasy. But it's known for many other things as well -- the heart-attack inducing street food, the phenomenal beer, the architecture-gasm inducing historic buildings, and being one of the cleanest cities I've ever been to. Though my trip there was brief, I did manage to explore quite a bit -- even if I was suffering from severe hay fever that made life overall unbearable. I would have usually taken much more footage of things like trying foods and beers (which I tried much of) but I didn't feel up to it between sneezes. So here is a video I put together that captures a glimpse of what Prague has to offer.

Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world and it is home to several palaces, as well as a cathedral, a basilica, and gardens.
We're here now in Novy Svet. It is a cool little neighborhood right behind the castle. Here we are at the Kafka Museum. This museum is dedicated to him and his work and you'll find some of his letters, diary entries and photographs inside. Stroll along the John Lennon Wall and you'll encounter portraits of Lennon and Yoko Ono. Right now we are visiting Prague's TV Tower and the strangest thing about this structure is that there are babies crawling up and down. Have a look. Up next we have a big plate of Goulash. Saint Vitus is a Gothic cathedral located within the walls of Prague Castle. Inside you'll be able to admire beautiful stained glass windows designed in the art nouveau style. Inside the KGB Museum you'll find old propaganda as well as some unusual pieces like a copy of Lenin's death mask. The Golden Lane gets its name because legend has it that Emperor Rudolph was a fan of alchemy. Charles Bridge is one of the most popular landmarks in the city. If you walk across during the day, you'll find musicians, artists, and vendors selling souvenirs. When in Prague you can check out the Astronomical Clock. It goes off every hour and it is right in the heart of the Old Town. You can't come to Prague and not sample the street food. One particularly popular item is the Trdlenik. Petrin Tower stands 63 meters high on a hill overlooking Prague. It slightly resembles the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Vyšehrad is a historical fort located in the city of Prague. In my hand here I've got myself a Pilsner beer and this is like a Czech institution. The Jeleni Prikop Park located right behind Prague Castle is a great place for a picnic or a little nap on the grass. Also one cool little fact. Even though the National Museum is currently closed you can still attend musical performances in the evening. The Dancing House is a building which stands out from the rest, done in the deconstructionist style. Here I've got Absinthe in my hand. It is an Anise flavored spirit and it is extremely popular here in Prague. Another cool thing you can do is visit the Miniature Museum where you can see microscopic art. The Mucha Museum pays homage to Alphonse Mucha, and it's a must visit if you enjoy art nouveau. And that sums up our visit to Prague! Our one week in the city left us charmed and it's a place that we'd be happy to revisit again.

Slovakia is a central European country known for its dramatic natural landscape and many castles. Near the Austrian border, capital city Bratislava features a pedestrian-only Old Town with a lively cafe scene. Rising on a hill above the Danube River, Bratislava Castle houses a branch of the Slovak National Museum, with displays from Roman artifacts to 20th-century arts and crafts. Slovak Republic is the official name, but the geographical centre of Europe is mostly known just as Slovakia (or Slovensko in Slovak language). The republic was established on 1st of January 1993 after Czechoslovakia split into two countries – Czech Republic and Slovakia. Since then, the political system in both countries is parliamentary democracy and the first day of the year became a national holiday. Slovak Republic as the smaller country from the two was the one which had to adopt new state symbols. Tatra mountains[edit]
Main article: Tatra Mountains
Kriváň (2495 m), the country's symbol on 1,2 and 5 euro cents
Gerlachovský štít (2655 m), the highest peak in Slovakia
Tatras, with 29 peaks higher than 2,500 metres (8,202 feet) AMSL, are the highest mountain range in the Carpathian Mountains. Tatras occupy an area of 750 square kilometres (290 sq mi), of which the greater part 600 square kilometres (232 sq mi) lies in Slovakia. They are divided into several parts.
To the north, close to the Polish border, are the High Tatras which are a popular hiking and skiing destination and home to many scenic lakes and valleys as well as the highest point in Slovakia, the Gerlachovský štít at 2,655 metres (8,711 ft) and the country's highly symbolic mountain Kriváň. To the west are the Western Tatras with their highest peak of Bystrá at 2,248 metres (7,375 ft) and to the east are the Belianske Tatras, smallest by area.
Separated from the Tatras proper by the valley of the Váh river are the Low Tatras, with their highest peak of Ďumbier at 2,043 metres (6,703 ft).
The Tatra mountain range is represented as one of the three hills on the coat of arms of Slovakia. Caves[edit]

Slovakia has hundreds of caves and caverns under its mountains, out of which 15 are open to the public. Most of the caves have stalagmites rising from the ground and stalactites hanging from above. There are currently five Slovak caves under UNESCO's World Heritage Site status. They are Dobšinská Ice Cave, Domica, Gombasek Cave, Jasovská Cave and Ochtinská Aragonite Cave. Prague in the Middle Ages
The Slavs arrived in the Czech Republic in the 6th century. About 870 they built a castle at Prague. In time a town grew up by the castle. By the late 10th century Prague was a thriving town. In 973 it was given a bishop. In the early 13th century German craftsmen and merchants came to live in Prague. In the 14th century Prague was a large and important city. In 1334 the bishop of Prague was made an archbishop. The Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV went to live in Prague and he enlarged the town. In 1344 work began on St Vitus's Cathedral. In 1348 Charles founded Prague University. He also rebuilt Prague Castle. Work began on building Charles Bridge in 1357. Prague Town Hall was built in 1364.
In the Middle Ages there was a Jewish community in Prague. The Old-New Synagogue was built in 1270. However Jews were often persecuted in Prague. In 1389 3,000 Jews in the city were murdered.
In 1232 friars came to Prague. The friars were like monks but instead of withdrawing from the world they went out to preach.
One of the great Christians of the Middle Ages was Jan Hus (c 1371-1415). He studied at Prague University. Hus was martyred in 1415.
Renaissance Prague
The great Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe died in Prague in 1601. He was buried in Tyn Church.
In 1621 27 Protestant leaders were executed in the Old Town Square in Prague. However despite political and religious upheavals the 17th century was a great one for Prague. It was a great age of building. Wallenstein Palace was built in 1630. Fire destroyed a large part of the Old Town in 1689 but it was rebuilt.
However Prague suffered an outbreak of plague in 1713. In 1741-42 the French occupied Prague. In 1744 the Prussians occupied the city. They laid siege to it again in 1757. Nevertheless in the 18th century Prague continued to be a large and important city. Estates Theater was built in 1783. Until 1784 Prague was legally divided into 4 towns. In that year they were united.
Prague
The 19th century was another great age for Prague. The city grew rapidly and many new buildings were erected. It was also a time of growing Czech nationalism. The National Museum was founded in 1818. The Museum of Decorative Arts was founded in 1885. Petrin View Tower was built in 1891.
Meanwhile in the 19th century the Industrial Revolution reached Prague. The railway reached Prague in 1845.
20th Century Prague
In 1915 a monument was erected to Jan Hus the great Christian reformer of the Middle Ages. Then in 1918 Prague became the capital of the nation of Czechoslovakia. During the 20th century Prague continued to grow steadily. By 1939 it had a population of 1 million. However on 15 March 1939 the Nazis captured Prague.
During the Second World War the buildings of Prague suffered little damage. However most of the Jewish residents were murdered. Then on 5 May 1945 the people of Prague rose in rebellion. The Germans withdrew on 8 May. However in 1948 the Communists in Czechoslovakia seized power and a long period of repression began.
In 1968 Alexander Dubcek began some reforms known as the Prague Spring but in August Warsaw Pact forces invaded Czechoslovakia and put an end to the reforms. Fortunately the Communist tyranny collapsed in 1989.

"We consider today's measures as a turning point in this affair, and the beginning of steps towards improvement."
4. Wide tilt up from bar to nearly empty shelves
5. Close of non-prohibited spirits on shelves
6. Wide tilt down of racks of prohibited prohibited spirits
7. Close of prohibited spirits
8. SOUNDBITE (English) Jonathan Weinstein, Manager of Pricny Rez Restaurant in Prague:
"It is hard to say, there were definitely nights where I could see it was a big problem. When people are only limited to buying beer and wine it definitely is a problem. When you have a group of 10 or 15 people who start to consume shots. It can be ten, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 shots which we obviously weren't selling. So I'd say I am not going to give a percentage but it (sales) was definitely affected."

11. SOUNDBITE (Czech) vox pop, Anna Rasmussen, Prague resident:
"It was the right decision that prohibition happened but now I am not so sure whether it is a good idea to lift the ban. I really don't know whether they have found the right people who caused it (the contamination) or not."
12. Wide of new printed spirits labels coming out of machine
13. Close of labels being put into box
14. SOUNDBITE (Czech) vox pop, Tomas Filbacher, Prague resident:
"It's good that they restricted selling alcohol produced before the year of 2012. It would make no sense to prolong the prohibition."
15. Wide of new labels and woman packing them
STORYLINE:
Czechs will soon be able to once again drink more than just beer and wine after the government announced an easing on a ban on spirits in the country.
Since mid-September the sale of spirits with an alcohol level of 20 percent or more were prohibited due to some of the country's low-grade stock being contaminated with methanol.
"We consider today's measures as a turning point in this affair, and the beginning of steps towards improvement," said Czech Health Minister Leos Heger.
The government banned the sale of spirits with more than 20 percent alcohol content on September 14 because of a bout of methanol poisoning that killed 26 people.
The ban hit the service industry hard with an estimated loss in sales of 250 (m) million Czech Crowns per day (around 13 million US dollars).
Jonathan Weinstein, who manages a Prague restaurant and bar, said it was hard to calculate accurately the loss the ban caused to his business.
"When people are only limited to buying beer and wine it definitely is a problem. When you have a group of 10 or 15 people who start to consume shots. It can be ten, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 shots which we obviously weren't selling. So I'd say I am not going to give a percentage but it (sales) was definitely affected," he said.
Government officials now say that any spirits produced before 1 January 2012 are considered safe and can be sold again starting on Thursday.
Any alcohol produced in the country afterwards must have new seals on them printed by the government this week.
"It was the right decision that prohibition happened but now I am not so sure whether it is a good idea to lift the ban. I really don't know whether they have found the right people who caused it (the contamination) or not," said Prague resident Anna Rasmussen.
Police say they have discovered the source of the poisoning but don't know the full extent of how far it spread.

Czech Miss Tourism 2015 Hana Vágnerová model "Fragile Beauty" from the motherland, which will represent the Czech Republic December 29, 2015 in Malaysia.
For Hank, we have created a national costume inspired lace is referring to the traditional technique that was widespread both in Bohemia and Moravia. The model is elegant, sophisticated style with subtle neck and bringing out their perfect curves. The whole is completed by hand Bobbin Lace butterfly and crocheted flowers that are decorated on the veil.

Step into a child’s storybook when you first arrive in Prague, a city in the Czech Republic where sleek, modern buildings share space with ancient gothic architecture. Wander down the twisting cobblestone streets – you’re sure to find something new and exciting. After all, even locals get lost here.
Prague tourism usually involves the Royal Route, a historic coronation path that will take you through Old Town. Walk a few blocks to Old Town Square and sample local street fare in the shadow of old castles and palaces. Old Town itself is full of cafes, restaurants, and galleries, and will provide days of exploration for intrepid visitors.
Cross over the Charles Bridge and climb up to Prague Castle, a network of palaces, churches, and numerous museums. Be careful, as folks were a lot shorter back then – you may have to duck your head as you walk through the low-ceilinged, artifact-filled halls.
Your Prague sightseeing must pause at St. Vitus Cathedral, a massive gothic structure dating back 600 years. You’ll have to arch your back to see over 300 feet to the ceilings, which seem to vanish into the heavens. By the time you’re back outside, it will likely be twilight. You’ll see pigs roasting on spits and people gathered under the statue of St. Wenceslas to share their daily adventures. The people here are friendly, so why not join them and chime in with your own stories?

***** Prague Castle . This is the biggest ancient castle in the world, according to Guinness World Records, and rises like a dream above the city offering beautiful views of the areas below. Also on site is the St. Vitus Cathedral with its lookout tower, the Castle Picture Gallery, several palaces and museums and the beautiful Royal Garden, among others. You can also watch the Presidential Guard, and the changeover of the guards on duty on the hour. A Prague castle ticket is 350 CZK and an audio guide costs a further 350 CZK.
***** Charles Bridge connects Old Town with Lesser Town. Its construction started in the 14th century and it is one of Prague's most beautiful structures. During the day, it is a bustling place of trade and entertainment, as musicians busk and artists sell their paintings and jewelry.
***** Old Town (Staré město); Prague's historic centre includes numerous historic buildings and monuments, most notably the famed Astronomical Clock (Orloj), the pure GothicTýn Church, the mural-covered Storch building, and the Jan Hus monument. Nearby, the Estate Theatre is a neoclassical theatre where Mozart's opera Don Giovanni was first performed. Old Town features many historical churches (St. James Church, Church of Our Lady before Týn among others) and some other interesting historical buildings like the Old Town Hall.
***** Josefov; this historic Jewish ghetto is interesting for its well preserved synagogues. The Old New Synagogue (Czech: Staronová synagoga) is Europe's oldest active synagogue and it is rumoured to be the resting place of the famed Prague Golem. Another interesting synagogue is the Spanish Synagogue, a highly ornamental building of Moorish style. Other attractions include the Old Jewish Cemetery, which is the oldest in Europe, and Kafka's house.
**** New Town (Nové město); New Town was established as an extension of Old Town in the 14th century, though much of the area has now been reconstructed. The main attraction here is Wenceslas Square, a rectangular commercial square with many stalls, shops and restaurants. At the top of the square is the National Museum which is well worth a look (see below). Midway down this historic boulevard, one finds trendy discos and Art Nouveau hotels, as well as quaint parks and arcades, while just off the beaten path are some wonderful panoramic views (Henry Tower), romantic restaurants and the dazzling, Disney-colored Jubilee Synagogue.
***** Lesser Town (Malá strana); Across the Vltava River from the city centre and leading to the castle, this quarter also offers beautiful streets and churches (of which St. Nicholas Church is the most renowned). The Lennon Wall, which used to be a source of irritation to the communist regime, is also found here, near a Venetian-like canal with water wheel and close to the Charles Bridge.
****** Infant of Prague (Jezulátko). This famous statue of Christ, known also as the Holy Infant of Prague, is among the most widespread religious images in the world. The original statue can be seen in the Church of Our Lady Victorious in Lesser Town.
**** Loreta . A beautiful Baroque convent in the Lesser Town.
**** Strahov Monastery. A monastery on the mountain. Worth a visit for both its picture gallery and its notable Renaissance library.
***** Prague Dancing House (Fred and Ginger Building); one of the most fascinating architectural expressions of Prague co-designed by Vlado Milunic and Frank Gehry. Accessible from Karlovo náměstí metro station.
**** Petřínská rozhledna . A smaller version of the Eiffel Tower on the top of Petrin Hill overlooking Prague. Climbing the tower costs 120 CZK for a standard ticket or 60 CZK for discounts. Paid lift available (60 CZK).
**** Prague Giant Metronome— A huge monument erected to replace the Stalinist monument that preceded it.
**** Memorial to the 1989 Velvet Revolution— A simple brass plaque at 20 Narodni. From Cafe Louvre, walk toward the river. You will enter an archway, and after just a few meters, look at the wall on the left.
***** Prague Zoo. To get there, take Metro C to Nadrazi Holesovice, then bus 112 which terminates at the Zoo. Nearby is the Troja Chateau (Trojský Zámek) with a large garden displaying various sculptures and a Botanic Garden (Botanická zahrada Troja) with a tropical greenhouse.
****** Prague christmas markets. The atmosphere of the Prague Christmas market was then enriched by fairground attractions, there used to be singers who showed the horrific scenes illustrating the songs stories.

The capital of the Czech Republic is also called ‘the golden city’, the ‘mother of cities’, but its most fitting name is the ‘city of 100 spires’. In the old town there are the towers of the City Hall, the Tyn temple and the Magazine. The puppet play of its famous Astronomical clock is marvelled at by thousands every hour. The Jewish district is famous of its old cemetery and the Synagogue. The Charles Bridge with its 30 statues lead to the other side of the Vltava. The other part has plenty of very good restaurants. The green dome of the Saint Nicholas Church can be seen above the citizens houses. The Prague Castle is one of Europe’s most beautiful castle districts with gothic, renessaince and baroque palaces, with a royal palace, parks, temples. Whoever visits Prague, won’t forget the Wenceslas Square and the famous pubs the ‘U Kalycha’ and the ‘U Fleku’. While wandering on the medieval streets we understand why this place became the setting for the legends of Dalibor, Faust, Rabbi Löw and the Golem.

Prague Street Food – Czech Republic street food [Czech Travel Documentary]
On a trip to Prague last month, I made a sinful discovery—a chewy cinnamon sugar-dusted pastry called “Staroceske Trdlo.” The name of this medieval treat means “old bohemian muff.” Not exactly appetizing, I know, but the tubular confection does bear an uncanny resemblance to the accessory, and if I had my druthers, it would keep my stomach warm—and full—all day, every day.
"You are a person like travelling, let's Subscribe this channel to learn about the beautiful places in the world. And if you intend to travel in somecountry or someplace and want to get more information of places, please comment in this video, we'll upload as soon as possible. Thank you ^^

Extravaganza: A spectacular display of Cesky Krumlov.
Located in the Czech Republic, Česky Krumlov is a unique and extraordinary city and was first settled in the fifteenth century B.C.Each nook and cranny of this unique gem surprises with something new to see and provides a wonderful insight into the history of Bohemia. For nearly three hundred years, and up until the beginning of the seventeenth century Bohemian Krummau was ruled by the Lords Of Rosenberg. It was a time of much prosperity that in turn gave rise to many new and magnificent buildings in the centre of the town. In 1992 it was designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and since then it has shined out in all of its former glory. Most of the restoration work on the town’s ancient dwelling houses, churches and monastery complexes has now been fully completed. Česky Krumlov Castle features a special attraction with a long tradition: since the end of the sixteenth century a number of bears have lived within the castle grounds! Indeed, the castle’s large moat provides more space for these wonderful creatures than they would have in any zoo. Česky Krumlov is popular with visitors from all four corners of the world and it is, without a doubt, one of the finest and most well preserved treasures of European history.

Take a tour of Kost Castle in Czech Republic -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Kost Castle is among the grandest of the Czech Republic's surviving castles.
It was built in the 14th century and is extremely well preserved.
Kost Castle is unusual in its location in a valley rather than on a hill.
This added in its protection as it remained largely hidden from potential assaults.
Visitors to the castle will get a glimpse into the medieval life of Czech noblemen.
Kost Castle is still owned by the aristocratic Kinsky family who run tours for visitors.
