What would you comment on China’s comprehensively deepening reforms?
I was remembered being with friends in Beijing right after the third plenum in 1978 in November I think it was. And people were really quite excited by the prospect of Deng Xiaoping leading China with all these massive reforms. You could see the reform comes in with especially the economic zone, with the changes in the management of land, rural land owned by farmers. So these changes were obviously quite amazing to see. Now I think the third plenum was quite important, because they focus, with their focus on the economy.
it shows that the current government seems to be very keen on implementing some major reforms. So I think it is probably, very probably to see a lot of interesting development over the next 5 years or so.
I think you are hearing all the time nowadays that of course China is the second largest economy and is becoming more and more influential as is going on. I just see from myself, you know, from Malta my Ministers are lining up to come to Beijing to discuss with their counterparts on how to enhance our relations between the two countries. So yes of course, basically I think from now on anything that China do has a bearing on the whole world. But also China I think is taking increasing responsibility also to the whole world in terms of you know, in terms of the environment as you know well.
So there is responsibility involved in becoming a major economy of power. And I think that China will know this and realize the responsibility and I am sure that we will continue to deal with these issues in a responsible way.
How would you interpret the Chinese Dream?
the China Dream I think is something which comes from the people. It is the people who are making China Dream possible. And you know from what I see, people are so keen to improve their lives. They are so keen to learn not only about Chinese Culture, but also about to world. And it has become a lot easier to learn about the world. So of course I think that there is not one single China Dream. There are many many China dreams. And you know I am quite sure that if the goal that has been set up, that have been established by the government and the Party, to improve the livelihood of people.
I think it will be a good dream. So I am quite confident with it.

Emirates operates a daily service between Dubai and Malta! on a few days it stops in Tripoli, on other days in Laranca. I had the oppertunity to try out Emirates between Larnaca and Malta. Usually this flight is operated by Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, however today our flight was operated by the rare 777-200.

After hearing alot of positive news about Emirates I was really excited to try them out. This flight was rather average and the 10-abreast seating felt very cramped. Thankfully the flight load was only 50%. I would not want to sit on this plane for a 5-hour+ flight from Dubai at all! Will I fly Emirates again? sure, but probably on it's newer aircraft.

The Commonwealth Environmental Investment Platform (CEIP) hosted a blue economy themed drinks reception after our Climate Challenge Conference.
Why the ‘blue economy’?
The oceans represent a final frontier in the quest for resources. Leading edge technologies are opening up new opportunities in submarine exploration for pharmaceutical research, mining for commodities, and oil and gas. The sea also offers vast potential for renewable ‘blue energy’ from wind, wave, tidal thermal and biomass sources.
Oceans provide a substantial proportion of the global population’s food and are the means of transport for over 80% of global trade. However, urgent attention is required to enable the sound management of ocean resources for sustainable development. We believe the Commonwealth has a collective responsibility to improve the lives of its 2.2 billion citizens, but also act as a steward of its fragile marine resources.

The Minister for Finance Prof. Edward Scicluna discusses the recently published NSO figures on economic growth, which confirm Malta’s place as the leading economy on growth in the Eurogroup.
The figures show that during the third quarter of 2014 real GDP increased by 3.8% from 3.4% registered in the previous quarter, while for the first nine months of 2014 it expanded by 3.5%.
Prof. Scicluna notes that the figures confirm that the economy is benefitting from the various measures undertaken by the Government to create an environment which encourages effort and investment.
He explains that it is also encouraging to note that growth was broad, with most economic sectors registering positive growth. He explains that the growth was underpinned by a strong increase in private consumption and investment, confirming the high level of confidence and optimism by consumers and investors.
Prof. Scicluna also notes that the economic growth registered is all the more encouraging given that it is not seasonal, but rather represents a consistent and sustained growth trend that has been registered over the preceding months.
Minister Scicluna also notes that this rate of economic growth also reached the Government’s target for next year, meaning that it will be less of a challenge to register the same rate of economic growth next year also.
