Chad (i/tʃæd/; Arabic: تشاد Tshād; French: Tchad), officially the Republic of Chad (Arabic: جمهورية تشاد Jumhūrīyat Tshād; French: République du Tchad), is a landlocked country in Central Africa. It is bordered by Libya to the north, Sudan to the east, the Central African Republic to the south, Cameroon and Nigeria to the southwest and Niger to the west. It is the fifth largest country in Africa in terms of area.
Chad has several regions: a desert zone in the north, an arid Sahelian belt in the centre and a more fertile Sudanian Savanna zone in the south. Lake Chad, after which the country is named, is the largest wetland in Chad and the second-largest in Africa. N'Djamena, the capital, is the largest city. Chad is home to over 200 different ethnic and linguistic groups. Arabic and French are the official languages. Islam and Christianity are the most widely practiced religions.
Beginning in the 7th millennium BC, human populations moved into the Chadian basin in great numbers. By the end of the 1st millennium BC, a series of states and empires rose and fell in Chad's Sahelian strip, each focused on controlling the trans-Saharan trade routes that passed through the region. France conquered the territory by 1920 and incorporated it as part of French Equatorial Africa. In 1960, Chad obtained independence under the leadership of François Tombalbaye. Resentment towards his policies in the Muslim north culminated in the eruption of a long-lasting civil war in 1965. In 1979, the rebels conquered the capital and put an end to the south's hegemony. However, the rebel commanders fought amongst themselves until Hissène Habré defeated his rivals. He was overthrown in 1990 by his general Idriss Déby. Since 2003, the Darfur crisis in Sudan has spilt over the border and destabilised the nation, with hundreds of thousands of Sudanese refugees living in and around camps in eastern Chad.

The landlocked African nation of Chad has more than 200 ethnic groups and 120 different languages and dialects. The north is dominated by the Sahara and occupied by Muslims, while the south is lush, tropical, and mainly occupied by Christians and animists. The nation has been ripped apart by civil war, and 80% of the population lives below the poverty line. Medical care and services are greatly lacking in this Central African nation, and with the prevalence of HIV/AIDS, the Republic of Chad has the fifth highest death rate in the world. Three decades of civil war plagued the nation after France withdrew its holdings in 1960. Flawed presidential elections were held, and rebellions became commonplace. The government, as is common in Africa, is known for its high levels of corruption. A Musl...

The Garri-Oromo tradition of Kedh Gurrai. The Garri are two tribes: Tuuf and Quran, both of which are presently found in Chad, Nigeria, Niger, Sudan and Libya. In these regions are they all called Tubu and Gorane, both are subgroups of the Kanuri people. "Kanuri" is the ethnic umbrella name for these tribes. Kanuri means "people of the light" or "people of the truth" in respect to our conversion to Islam in the 10th century via the Fezzan region of Libya in the 10th-11th century. Thanks goes all those Garri who have passed along our traditions and special thanks goes to the Garri behind GarriNation. While some places are on this list due to armed conflicts and violence, other places are on the list thanks to physical or biological calamities. Regardless of the reasons, the one thing all of these places have in common is that most western governments do not advise travel to them unless it is absolutely necessary. These are the 25 most dangerous places to visit as a tourist. Also, before we continue, just remember, being on this list doesn't necessarily mean the entire country is bad to visit (although it can). Just make sure to check on regional travel warnings. Homogenous, monolithic code bases are a nightmare to maintain. The more they grow, the "smarter" we get as developers, laying abstractions, metaprogramming, and any other trick we can think of to make it possible to survive under the weight of the giant. When 6Wunderkinder released Wunderlist 2, its server-side APIs were created as just such a beast. We used every Ruby trick in the book, but as with all such monoliths, it was ultimately unsustainable. In July of 2014, we replaced our monolith with a swarm of tiny services, written in many different languages. In this talk, we'll recount the pains and joys of the migration. How do you maintain a radically heterogeneous system with a small group of developers? How do you monitor a fleet of disparate microservices? How do you make it perfor...
