Les Baux It has a spectacular position in the Alpilles mountains, set atop a rocky outcrop crowned with a ruined castle overlooking the plains to the south. The village gives its name to the aluminium ore Bauxite. Arles The city has a long history, and was of considerable importance in the Roman province of Gallia Narbonensis. The Roman and Romanesque Monuments of Arles were listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1981 Annecy. Lies on the northern tip of Lake Annecy (Lac d'Annecy), 35 kilometres south of Geneva.
