This was my very first trip alone outside of the US. Very daring but very adventurous. Despite going in the middle of Hurricane Season, Tropical storm Issaac missed Jamaica and Atlanta and it only rained twice the whole time. :) Not only did i do everything i wanted but i also did everything i wanted within a set budget. I got the opportunity to see Montego Bay, Ocho Rios where i stayed, Negril overnight, and Kingston in just four days. Even though I spend half my time on the road, the road traveling allowed me to see a lot of the heart of Jamaica. I am happy to say that I spend my 24th birthday just 3 weeks after Jamaicas 50th independence day and Usain Bolts recent Olympic Victories. I have much respect for Jamaican people, lifestyle and culture as much of the island is poor. In addition to rich culture and beauty, Jamaica is home to great music. Aside from wishing i stayed in Negril for a second night, this trip was a huge accomplishment in regards to future travel alone. I learned how to use other currency versus my own and i know how I should blend in with locals if necessary. lol
Happy Travels and I wish peace, love, and prosperity to this beautiful island. ONE LOVE
Day 1: Land in Montego/ Ocho Rios

This time around I had a clean window without any scratches and the weather was marvellous as the aircraft approached Jamaica, however it inexplicably turned hazy during the final stages of the aircrafts approach. You can just make out the runway from 06:36 onwards as the aircraft flies past, prior to making a 180 degree turn to line up for final approach.

Hi Youtube! It has been a long time since my last video.
This video is from my last Jamaica trip. It shows the approach and landing of the British Airways 2263 service to Normal Manley International Airport in the beautiful island of Jamaica. This flight was flown by aircraft G-YMME which is a Roll Royce Trent 895 powered Boeing 777-236. This is was the first time I'd flown on this particular aircraft.
I was pleased to have a clear window with no scratches and reasonablel weather during the approach, though a bit overcast over Kingston towards the very end.
This video differs slightly from my last in that this time the aircraft took a much wider line than usual, affording those seated on the right hand side a spectacular view of part of the south-east coastline.
Flight time was just under 10 hours with the usual turbulence around Bermuda :) Highlights in this video include a flypast of the Turks & Caicos islands and an overfly of Haiti towards the latter stages.
Sadly the Captain's flight update is somewhat muffled though you can make out a few phrases if you listen intently. You are hearing it exactly as it sounded - this has been an issue on my last few flights.
This video was captured by a Sony NEX-5T camera fitted with an external microphone. The colour reproduction of this camera is simply superb when compared to my previous Panasonic camcorders.
I have some footage of the takeoff which I'll upload at a later date.

Haiti is the starting point of this journey in the Caribbean. Since the time of Columbus it has been the European idyll of paradise set amid a distant ocean. Travel video about destination Jamaica.
Montego Bay is Jamaica’s second largest city that, at the end of the 18th century, was one of the most important harbors for the island’s sugar industry. The lively city centre is a mixture of both old and new with modern concrete houses located next to simple wooden huts and congested streets with numerous small shops and street traders.Close to Falmouth, there’s the excitement of Martha Brae River Rafting which is an excellent way to explore this tropical paradise, in which dense tropical rain forest shows off all its spectacular colors. It was here, on the north coast, that Christopher Columbus landed in 1502 and where the Spanish were defeated by the British in a bloody battle for sovereign control of the island.Dunn`s River Falls is the name of a waterfall near to Ochos Rios, one of the island’s most well known natural attractions. In swimming attire, more than a million annual visitors attempt to climb through spraying torrents of water while linking hands in a human chain. In foaming cascades, the water plunges 200 metres down toward the sea over step-shaped limestone blocks and across an overgrown landscape of ferns and plants.Harmony Hall, a Victorian building that is a reminder of British colonial rule, is the name of an immaculate manor house located on a turn of the century plantation.
If you're not planning to spend all your time on the grounds of a resort during your stay in Jamaica, you'll need a way to get around. Fortunately, you have a few options.
Buses connect most of the towns in Jamaica and are very inexpensive, but they also tend to be crowded and don't operate on strict schedules. However, there are a few luxury bus services--just be sure to reserve ahead of time.
Taxis are also available, both for shorter trips and for traveling between towns, but since price is based on car and multiple passengers will be taken, you shouldn't necessarily expect this to be the more comfortable option. If you want to take a taxi, flag one down or call a taxi service to pick you up; remember that official taxis will have red license plates.
Car rental is really your best bet if you want to go far. Just remember -- Drive on the left side of the road and bring plenty of cash, as many gas stations don't take credit. During the high season, cars will be in high demand, so reserve ahead of time. If you want something smaller, you can also rent mopeds and motorcycles through most car services and hotels.
Whatever you choose, set aside plenty of time for your travels--you came to Jamaica to relax, not to rush.

Travel video about destination The Caribbean.
Haiti is the starting point of this journey in the Caribbean. Since the time of Columbus it has been the European idyll of paradise set amid a distant ocean. But beyond the dream is the fact that its original inhabitants were wiped out and replaced with African slaves. Now independent states have gradually emerged from the dark shadows of an inglorious past.Jamaica is another Caribbean paradise and its second largest city, Montego Bay, is the starting point for tourists from all over the world. One of its attractions is Harmony Hall, a fine manor house situated on a turn of the century plantation. Kingston is the capital of Jamaica and the island’s political, economic and cultural centre, a former pirate stronghold that is a lively mixture of joie de vivre and reggae. Nassau is the capital of New Providence Island and is one of more than seven hundred islands in the Bahamas archipelago. Paradise Island is the most modern and spectacular resort in the Bahamas with Atlantis the largest entertainment oasis in the world. It was created by South African hotel tycoon whose mega luxury resort boasts an array of amazing LA-style casinos and entertainment facilities. Havana is a Caribbean metropolis that for many years has become somewhat run down and neglected but nowhere else are the cocktails mixed better! Whether it be the Teatro Marti, the Old Tobacco Factory, the famous Bacardi house or the Floridita Bar, everywhere there is a feeling of nostalgia and when the Daiquiri is served one almost expects Fidel Castro or Ernest Hemmingway to be seated at the next table. Cuba and the Caribbean are a melting pot of colonial culture and an overgrown and abundant Garden of Eden!

Gregory Anthony Isaacs (July 15, 1951 – Oct. 25, 2010) from Kingston, Jamaica was a four time Grammy award nominee. Milo Miles, writing in The New York Times, described Isaacs as "the most exquisite vocalist in reggae".His honorific nickname was the Cool Ruler.
International stardom seemed assured in 1978 when Isaacs signed to the Virgin Records offshoot Front Line Records, and appeared in the film Rockers, in which he performed "Slavemaster". The Cool Ruler (which became one of his nicknames) and Soon Forward albums, however, failed to sell as well as expected, although they are now considered among his best work.[9] In 1981, he made his first appearance at the Reggae Sunsplash festival (returning annually until 1991), and he moved on to the Charisma Records offshoot Pre, who released his The Lonely Lover (another nickname that stuck) and More Gregory albums along with a string of increasingly successful singles including "Tune In", "Permanent Lover", "Wailing Rudy" and "Tribute to Waddy". He signed to Island Records and released the record that finally saw him break through to a wider audience, "Night Nurse", the title track from his first album for the label (Night Nurse (1982). Although "Night Nurse" was not a chart hit in either the UK or US, it was hugely popular in clubs and received heavy radio play, and the album reached #32 in the UK. This success for Isaacs coincided with drug problems with cocaine which saw him serve a six-month prison sentence in Kingston in 1982 for possession of unlicensed firearms. Isaacs claimed that he had the weapons only for protection, but it emerged that this was his 27th arrest and that Isaacs had become involved in drug dealing and had become addicted to crack cocaine. He celebrated his release from prison with his second album for Island, Out Deh! (1983). Isaacs was featured in the 1982 documentary Land of Look Behind.
When his contract with Island ended, Isaacs returned in 1984 with the "Kool Ruler Come Again" single, and began a period of prolific recording, working with producers including Prince Jammy, Hugh "Redman" James, Bobby Digital, Tad Dawkins and Steely & Clevie, maintaining a consistent standard despite the volume of work produced. Isaacs then built a strong relationship with Gussie Clarke of the Music Works label. They began with Isaacs' 1985 album Private Beach Party, and had a massive hit with "Rumours" in 1988, which was followed by further popular singles including "Mind Yu Dis", "Rough Neck", "Too Good To Be True" and "Report to Me". The association with Clarke continued into the early 1990s, teaming up with singers including Freddie McGregor, Ninjaman and J.C. Lodge. He dueted with Beres Hammond on the 1993 Philip "Fatis" Burrell-produced "One Good Turn", Burrell also producing Isaacs' 1994 album Midnight Confidential.
In the 1990s the African Museum label continued to release all of Isaacs' music, and that of artists he produced. In 1997 Simply Red covered "Night Nurse" and had a hit with it.
In 2008, after some 40 years as a recording artist, Isaacs released a new studio album Brand New Me, which was nominated for the Grammy Awards for 2010. The album received positive reviews from critics, such as this review from Reggae Vibes: "Gregory is back, and how! 'Brand New Me' is a very suitable album title for the cool ruler's new album. He is back in a different style, more or less like we were used to from this great 'lovers & roots' artist"This was followed in 2009 by the album My Kind Of Lady.
In 2010, Gregory Isaacs put out the last of his albums to be released while he was still living; Isaacs Meets Isaac, with Zimbabwean reggae singer, King Isaac. In November 2010, Isaacs Meets Isaac was nominated for Best Reggae Album for the 2011 Grammy Awards, giving Gregory Isaacs his fourth Grammy Nomination, and Zimbabwe's King Isaac, his first.

Dwayne Wallace more popularly known as Kapri, has risen out of the city of Kingston, Jamaica as one of the young fresh talents in the new generation of dancehall. Wallace was born and raised in the community of Pembroke Hall in Kingston to parents Nelsie Williams and Cecil Wallace on February 12, 1988. As the youngest of seven sibling’s life wasn't easy growing up but close knit made things easier.
Wallace attended Pembroke Hall Primary School where he was an avid part of the school's choir; but even then, he had no clue that music was his calling. Later he moved on to Pembroke Hall High School at the age of thirteen and it was there he and others around him started to realize the talent that he had.
Kapri always had a knack for music and he began to put himself out there, being more confident in his music, exposing his talent to family and friends.

The IRICALS is a reggae harmony trio which features the voices of Rhedda J, Asha Darbeau and Porsha Estime.
Their songs reflect a bold consciousness from the difficult times in today’s world and represent a strong, unified presence as artists for social change.
The group is influenced by the sweet three part harmonies produced in Jamaican reggae music of the 1960s and 70s from such groups as the Heptones, The Mighty Diamonds, The Congos, and The Wailers. The great Heptones trio singer, one Earl Morgan, stated his endorsement and enthusiasm for the group's sound and guitar legend Earl Chinna Smith has contributed his guitar part to the groups debut work as well
The IRICALS’ emergence in some ways represents a revival of a classic sound among the world-class spectrum of talent in the world music and reggae scene today.

In Jamaica, attacks, murder, and rape are common occurrences against LGBTI people, with little to no retribution or justice brought against those responsible.
After being forced from shacks, derelict buildings, and their own families, many homeless LGBTI Jamaicans have found refuge in the storm drainage systems of Kingston — known locally as the gully. For trans girls and gay men unable or unwilling to hide their sexuality, the sense of community and relative safety the gully provides acts as a welcome sanctuary, and for many, a hope of change to come.
VICE News travelled to the New Kingston area to see what LGBTI life is like in Jamaica — where just being who you are can mean living a life underground.
This unique community has found solace in the lyrics of street life and struggle of the recently incarcerated singer Vybz Kartel, a national hero of sorts and considered "The Voice of the Jamaican Guetto" by many. Check out the unofficial video for "Beautiful Girl" by Vybz Kartel, the ""voice of the Jamaican ghetto" at Noisey: http://bit.ly/1l7eE0P

‘We’re going to lay you down now.’ Angela says her last goodbyes to her son. Kenrick died in a hail of bullets fired by the country’s security forces, the police and army. ‘The soldier used his foot on his throat and fired shots into his stomach and his head.’ Rico, who was hiding at the time of the murder, believes the police had no reason to shoot. ‘They had no need to hurt the youths. They'd just come out to kill somebody.’ Every other day in Kingston the police kill someone. ‘That is how the police operate,’ states Dr Caroline Gomes, director of Jamaicans for Justice, ‘the police are involved in murder for higher corruption - selling guns, drug running.’ Deputy Commissioner Mark Shields says it’s a constant battle between good and bad: ‘the bad cops…undermine everything that the rest of us are trying to do.’
