The film follows the French Paris-Roubaix spring classic, notorious for the hellish paves or cobbled roads of the north "which are no longer used for traffic but only for transporting cattle - and for cycle races". We are there from the dawn preparations and rituals on the outskirts of Paris and through the rigours of the race with special focus on a number of prominent cyclists to the final outcome on the Roubaix cycle track - followed by the filthy riders taking their showers. There is also an eye for life among the spectators and the media event as such. The film alternates among different kinds of shot with a view to establishing the most suitable view of the narrative: shots from motorcycles, which are able to convey the motion of the race and provide close ups of the riders in the style of television cycle race reporting; fixed cameras stationed at strategically important points along the route, where viewers can watch riders passing in real time and thus gain a clear overview of the distance between the leaders and the main field: and the Olympian eye of the helicopter shots.

The film follows the French Paris-Roubaix spring classic, notorious for the hellish paves or cobbled roads of the north "which are no longer used for traffic but only for transporting cattle - and for cycle races". We are there from the dawn preparations and rituals on the outskirts of Paris and through the rigours of the race with special focus on a number of prominent cyclists to the final outcome on the Roubaix cycle track - followed by the filthy riders taking their showers. There is also an eye for life among the spectators and the media event as such. The film alternates among different kinds of shot with a view to establishing the most suitable view of the narrative: shots from motorcycles, which are able to convey the motion of the race and provide close ups of the riders in the style of television cycle race reporting; fixed cameras stationed at strategically important points along the route, where viewers can watch riders passing in real time and thus gain a clear overview of the distance between the leaders and the main field: and the Olympian eye of the helicopter shots.

I proudly present to you a may 1976 recording from my father. He filmed in super 8 (without voice) the filmproject A Bridge too far about battle in W011 in east Holland in the area of the John Frost bridge in Arnhem. Because the situation in Arhhem in 1976 was so different then the situation at the liberation period in 1944 -- 1945 was chosen for Deventer, a city 40 kilometer above Arnhem. In the movie that my father shot you see pictures from the scenes that waren taken in the area of the Wilheminabridge in Deventer
The scenes from the movie A Bridge to far around the 'Arnhem' bridge were actually shot in Deventer (from which you the making of can see in this super 8 movie) , where a similar bridge over the IJssel was still available. Although the original bridge in Arnhem still existed, it was by the mid-1970s sitting in a modern urban surroundings which could not be used to portray a 1940s city. Was die vier Jungs von Led Zeppelin während der drei Abschlußkonzerte ihrer US-Tournee im New Yorker Madison Square Garden vom 27. bis 29. Juli 1973 hingelegt haben, ist schlichtweg unerreicht, insbesondere was Jimmy Page aus seinen Gitarren herausgeholt hat! Die anderen Bandmitglieder standen ihm in nichts nach: Robert Plant (Gesang), John Paul Jones (Bass & Piano) und John Bonham (Schlagzeug). Alle vier sind musikalisch und professionell vom Allerfeinsten. Diese Kombination von Talenten ist einfach konkurrenzlos. Dazu noch die ausgezeichnete Kameraführung und die geniale Unterlegung der Musik mit Bildern! - Ein Wahnsinn!
Der Film beginnt mit einem "Mafia"-Vorspann, den man getrost überspringen kann. Zwischen den Songs gibt es einige z.T. ganz interessante Backstage- und Gesprächsszenen. (Led Zepp war in New York die ganze Kohle aus dem Hotel geklaut worden...)
