The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum is a Buddhist temple and museum complex located in the Chinatown district of Singapore. The temple is based on the Tang dynasty architectural style and built to house the tooth relic of the historical Buddha. The ground breaking ceremony was conducted on 13 March 2005. It is claimed that the relic of Buddha from which it gains its name was found in 1980 in a collapsed stupa in Myanmar.

The Buddhist calendar begins with the month of Vesak. On Vesak Day, Buddhists world over commemorate the triple anniversary of Sakyamuni Siddhartha Gauthama The Buddha. The Lord Buddha was born, attained Supreme Enlightenment at the age of thirty five, and after a successful ministry of forty five years attained parinirvana or passed away on a Vesak (May) full moon Poya Day. It was also on a Vesak full moon Poya Day, in the Eight years of his enlightenment, that The Buddha made his third and final visit to Sri Lanka with 500 Arhath Monks. Also there are many things that happened in Vesak Poya Day, Visiting of Kimbulwathpura to see Lord Buddha's relatives after attaining of Enlightenment by Lord Buddha, Marking of the foot print on the Samanala Mountain (Sri Lanka) by the invitation of God Sumana Saman, Arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka by the endeavors of King Devanampiyathissa and King Dhramashoka, Commencing of the building of Ruwanweliseya pagoda by King Dutugamunu are some of them.... Poya or Poya Day is the name given to a Buddhist public holiday in Sri Lanka, which occurs every full moon day.The Full moon is important to Buddhists all around the world. Every full moon day is known as a Poya in Sinhala and on this day Buddhist visits the Temple for the special rituals of worship.

Vesākha (Pali; Sanskrit: Vaiśākha, Devanagari: वैशाख, Sinhala: වෙසක් පෝය) or Vesak is a holy day observed traditionally by Buddhists in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and the South East Asian countries of Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Burma, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Sometimes informally called "Buddha's Birthday", it actually encompasses the birth, enlightenment (nirvāna), and passing away (Parinirvāna) of Gautama Buddha.
The exact date of Vesākha varies according to the various lunar calendars used in different traditions. In Theravada countries following the Buddhist calendar, it falls on a full moon Uposatha day, typically in the 5th or 6th lunar month. Vesākha Day in China is on the eighth of the fourth month in the Chinese lunar calendar. The date varies from year to year in the Western Gregorian calendar, but usually falls in April or May. In leap years Vesākha is celebrated in June.
The name of the observance is derived from the Pali term vesākha or Sanskrit vaiśākha, which is the name of the lunar month falling on April to May (see Vaisakha). In Mahayana Buddhist traditions, the holiday is known by its Sanskrit name and derived variants of it. Local renditions of the name varies by country, including:

"Vesak" is a holy day for Buddhists world wide, especially in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and the South East Asian countries such as Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Burma, and Indonesia which has an avid following.
Informally referred to as "Buddha's Birthday", it encompasses the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of the holy teacher Gautama Buddha.
Vesak is a celebration of Buddha's teachings and way of life to unite people from all walks of life - irrespective of gender, class, colour or race and with a view to showing the beauty of embracing a life of simplicity and cultivate inner peace and harmony.
