This has been a great aircraft bomber for the Us air force The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber. The B-52 was designed and built by Boeing, which has continued to provide support and upgrades. It has been operated by the United States Air Force (USAF) since the 1950s. The bomber is capable of carrying up to 70,000 pounds (32,000 kg) of weapons.[4]
Beginning with the successful contract bid in June 1946, the B-52 design evolved from a straight-wing aircraft powered by six turboprop engines to the final prototype YB-52 with eight turbojet engines and swept wings. The B-52 took its maiden flight in April 1952. Built to carry nuclear weapons for Cold War-era deterrence missions, the B-52 Stratofortress replaced the Convair B-36. A veteran of several wars, the B-52 has dropped only conventional munitions in combat. The B-52's official name Stratofortress is rarely used in informal circumstances, and it has become common to refer to the aircraft as the BUFF (Big Ugly Fat Fucker).[5][N 1]
The B-52 has been in active service with the USAF since 1955. As of 2012, 85 were in active service with nine in reserve. The bombers flew under the Strategic Air Command (SAC) until it was deactivated in 1992 and its aircraft absorbed into the Air Combat Command (ACC); in 2010 all B-52 Stratofortresses were transferred from the ACC to the new Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC). Superior performance at high subsonic speeds and relatively low operating costs have kept the B-52 in service despite the advent of later, more advanced aircraft, including the canceled Mach 3 B-70 Valkyrie, the variable-geometry B-1 Lancer, and the stealth B-2 Spirit. The B-52 completed fifty years of continuous service with its original operator in 2005; after being upgraded between 2013 and 2015, it is expected to serve into the 2040s.[N 2]
Design
Overview[edit]
The B-52 shared many technological similarities with the preceding Boeing B-47 Stratojet strategic bomber. The two aircraft used the same basic design, such as swept wings and podded jet engines,[74] and the cabin included the crew ejection systems.[75] On the B-52D, the pilots and electronic countermeasures (EDM) operator ejected upwards, while the lower deck crew ejected downwards; until the B-52G, the gunner had to jettison the tail gun to bail-out.[76]
Structural fatigue was accelerated by at least a factor of eight in a low-altitude flight profile over that of high-altitude flying, requiring costly repairs to extend service life. In the early 1960s, the three-phase High Stress program was launched to counter structural fatigue, enrolling aircraft at 2,000 flying hours.[78][79] Follow-up programs were conducted, such as a 2,000-hour service life extension to select airframes in 1966–1968, and the extensive Pacer Plank reskinning, completed in 1977.[72][80] The wet wing introduced on G and H models was even more susceptible to fatigue, experiencing 60% more stress during flight than the old wing. The wings were modified by 1964 under ECP 1050.[81] This was followed by a fuselage skin and longeron replacement (ECP 1185) in 1966, and the B-52 Stability Augmentation and Flight Control program (ECP 1195) in 1967.[81] Fuel leaks due to deteriorating Marman clamps continued to plague all variants of the B-52. To this end, the aircraft were subjected to Blue Band (1957), Hard Shell (1958), and finally QuickClip (1958) programs. The latter fitted safety straps that prevented catastrophic loss of fuel in case of clamp failure.[82]
In September 2006, the B-52 became one of the first US military aircraft to fly using alternative fuel. It took off from Edwards Air Force Base with a 50/50 blend of Fischer-Tropsch process (FT) synthetic fuel and conventional JP-8 jet fuel, which burned in two of the eight engines.[83] On 15 December 2006, a B-52 took off from Edwards with the synthetic fuel powering all eight engines, the first time an air force aircraft was entirely powered by the blend. The seven-hour flight was considered a success.[83] This program is part of the Department of Defense Assured Fuel Initiative, which aims to reduce crude oil usage and obtain half of its aviation fuel from alternative sources by 2016.[83] On 8 August 2007, Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne certified the B-52H as fully approved to use the FT blend.[84]
Avionics
Ongoing problems with avionics systems were addressed in the Jolly Well program, completed in 1964, which improved components of the AN/ASQ-38 bombing navigational computer and the terrain computer. The MADREC (Malfunction Detection and Recording) upgrade fitted to most aircraft by 1965 could detect failures in avionics and weapons computer systems, and was essential in monitoring the Hound Dog missiles. The electronic countermeasures capability of the B-52 was expanded with Rivet Rambler (1971) and Rivet Ace (1973).[85]

The U.S. government has admitted to flying two strategic bombers close to China′s reclaimed islands in the South China Sea.
The Pentagon says the B52s were contacted by Chinese air traffic control but continued to fly their mission as directed.
Connie Kim reports.
In a move that could further enflame tension between Washington and Beijing,... it has emerged the Pentagon flew two B-52 bombers near China′s artificial islands in the South China Sea earlier this week.
Pentagon spokesman Bill Urban said Thursday that the B-52s were on a routine mission in the South China Sea taking off from and returning to Guam, but did not go within 12-nautical-miles of the islands.
Twelve nautical miles around a territory is internationally recognized as sovereign territory, but the U.S. does not recognize China′s claim to the artificial islands.
Tension escalated late last month after an American destroyer challenged territorial limits around one of China′s man-made islands in the Spratlys.
The Spratlys are a disputed group of more than 750 reefs, islets, atolls, cays and islands claimed by China and four other countries, including Vietnam and the Philippines.
The U.S. says the patrols are within its rights under freedom of navigation.
But Beijing has so far held firm to its stance, saying it will ″never allow any country″ to violate its territorial waters and airspace in the area.
The latest patrol comes days before U.S. President Barack Obama′s trip to Manila for the APEC Summit.
There, Obama is expected to voice Washington′s commitment to freedom of navigation and overflight in the area.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will also attend the APEC talks.
The White House says no decision has been made on whether to put the South China Sea issue on the formal agenda.
Connie Kim, Arirang News.

The Battle of Khe Sanh (Vietnam War) was begun on January 21, 1968, when forces of North Vietnam carried out a massive artillery bombardment on the U.S. Marine garrison at Khe Sanh. For the next 77 days, U.S. Marines and their South Vietnamese allies fought off an intense siege of the garrison, in one of the longest and bloodiest battles of the Vietnam War. The besieged Marine base was supported by Operation Niagara. It was a U.S. 7th Air Force close air support campaign. Its purpose was to serve as an aerial umbrella for the defense of the U.S. Marine Corps Combat Base on the Khe Sanh Plateau. The North Vietnamese were forced to lift the siege in March 1968.
The American command in Saigon initially believed that combat operations around the Khe Sanh Combat Base during the summer of 1967 were just part of a series of minor North Vietnamese offensives in the border regions. That appraisal was altered when it was discovered that North Vietnamese Army was moving major forces into the area during the fall and winter.
During the battle over 100,000 tons of bombs were dropped until mid April by aircraft of the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Marines onto the surrounding areas of Khe Sanh. The campaign used the latest technological advances in order to locate North Vietnamese forces for targeting. The logistical effort to support the Khe Sanh Combat Base, once it was isolated overland, demanded the implementation of other tactical innovations in order to keep the Marines supplied.
About the Vietnam War:
The Vietnam War (aka the Second Indochina War) was a Cold War-era military conflict that occurred in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from 1 November 1955 to the fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975. This war followed the First Indochina War and was fought between North Vietnam - supported by the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China - and the government of South Vietnam - supported by the United States and other anti-communist countries. The communist Viet Cong, a South Vietnamese political organization and army aided by North Vietnam, fought a guerrilla war against the United States and the South Vietnamese forces. The Vietnam People's Army (North Vietnamese Army) engaged in a more conventional war, at times committing large units into battle. The U.S. and South Vietnamese forces relied on air superiority and overwhelming firepower to conduct search and destroy operations, involving ground forces, artillery, and airstrikes. The U.S. conducted a large-scale strategic bombing campaign against North Vietnam.
The North Vietnamese government and the Viet Cong were fighting to reunify Vietnam under communist rule. The U.S. government viewed American involvement in the Vietnam War as a way to prevent a communist takeover of South Vietnam with the aim of stopping the spread of communism.
American military advisors arrived in South Vietnam in 1950. U.S. combat units were deployed in 1965. Operations crossed international borders: Laos and Cambodia were heavily bombed by the U.S forces as American involvement in the war peaked in 1968, at the time of the communist Tet Offensive. After it the U.S. ground forces were gradually withdrawn as part of the Vietnamization policy, which aimed to end American involvement in the Vietnam War while transferring the task of fighting the Communists to the South Vietnamese themselves. In the United States a large anti-Vietnam War movement developed during the 1960s. Despite the Paris Peace, signed in 1973, fighting continued between North Vietnam and South Vietnam.
Direct U.S. military involvement ended on 15 August 1973 as a result of the Case-Church Amendment passed by the U.S. Congress. The capture of Saigon by the North Vietnamese Army in April 1975 marked the end of the war. North and South Vietnam were reunified.

The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber. The B-52 was designed and built by Boeing, which has continued to provide support and upgrades. It has been operated by the United States Air Force (USAF) since the 1950s. The bomber is capable of carrying up to 70,000 pounds (32,000 kg) of weapons.[4]
Beginning with the successful contract bid in June 1946, the B-52 design evolved from a straight wing aircraft powered by six turboprop engines to the final prototype YB-52 with eight turbojet engines and swept wings. The B-52 took its maiden flight in April 1952. Built to carry nuclear weapons for Cold War-era deterrence missions, the B-52 Stratofortress replaced the Convair B-36. A veteran of several wars, the B-52 has dropped only conventional munitions in combat. The B-52's official name Stratofortress is rarely used; informally, the aircraft has become commonly referred to as the BUFF (Big Ugly Fat Fucker).[5][Note 1]
The B-52 has been in active service with the USAF since 1955. As of 2012, 85 were in active service with nine in reserve. The bombers flew under the Strategic Air Command (SAC) until it was inactivated in 1992 and its aircraft absorbed into the Air Combat Command (ACC); in 2010 all B-52 Stratofortresses were transferred from the ACC to the new Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC). The B-52 completed fifty years of continuous service with its original operator in 2005; after being upgraded between 2013 and 2015, it is expected to serve into the 2040s

SUPER POWERFUL US Air Force B1 Aircraft
A great video of the US Air Force B1 Aircraft The United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven American uniformed services. Initially part of the United States Army, the USAF was formed as a separate branch of the military on 18 September 1947 under the National Security Act of 1947.[5] It is the most recent branch of the U.S. military to be formed, and is the largest and one of the world's most technologically advanced air forces. The USAF articulates its core functions as Nuclear Deterrence Operations, Special Operations, Air Superiority, Global Integrated ISR, Space Superiority, Command and Control, Cyberspace Superiority, Personnel Recovery, Global Precision Attack, Building Partnerships, Rapid Global Mobility and Agile Combat Support.[6]
The U.S. Air Force is a military service within the Department of the Air Force, one of the three military departments of the Department of Defense. The USAF is headed by the civilian Secretary of the Air Force, who is appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate. The highest-ranking military officer in the Department of the Air Force is the Chief of Staff of the Air Force who exercises supervision over Air Force units, and serves as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Air Force combat forces and mobility forces are assigned, as directed by the Secretary of Defense, to the Combatant Commanders, and neither the Secretary of the Air Force nor the Chief of Staff have operational command authority over them.
The U.S. Air Force provides air support for surface forces[7] and aids in the recovery of troops in the field. As of 2012, the service operates more than 5,638 aircraft, 450 ICBMs and 63 satellites. It has a $140 billion budget with 332,854 active duty personnel, 185,522 civilian personnel, 71,400 Air Force Reserve personnel, and 106,700 Air National Guard personnel.[2]

The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber. The B-52 was designed and built by Boeing, which has continued to provide support and upgrades. It has been operated by the United States Air Force (USAF) since the 1950s. The bomber is capable of carrying up to 70,000 pounds (32,000 kg) of weapons. Range, extendable by mid-air refueling, varies with modifications, weapons load, flying height, and so on, but is typically about 9,000 nautical miles (10,000 mi; 17,000 km) at high altitude without mid-air refueling, dropping to 6,300 nmi (7,200 mi; 11,700 km) with one refueling if flying a similar mission with a 2,400 nmi (2,800 mi; 4,400 km) stretch at an altitude of 500 feet (150 m).

http://www.newsbharati.com/ South China Sea- China Accuses US of 'Provocative' B-52 Bomber Flypast.
Two US B-52 bombers flew close to islands in the flashpoint South China Sea last week in a "serious military provocation", Beijing said today, as tensions simmer in the disputed waterway.
China insists it has sovereignty over virtually all of the resource-rich sea, conflicting with the various claims of several neighbouring nations, and US activity in the area has provoked Beijing's ire several times in recent months.
"In the morning of 10 December, two US B-52 bombers entered air space over the Chinese Nansha islands and nearby areas without authorisation," Beijing's defence ministry said, using the Chinese name for the Spratly Islands.
"This behaviour is a serious military provocation which complicates the general situation in the South China Sea, (contributing) to the militarisation of the region," the ministry said in a statement.
During a mission by the two B-52 bombers last week, one of the aircraft unintentionally flew within two nautical miles of an artificially constructed island, the Wall Street Journal quoted Pentagon officials as saying yesterday.
This may have been because of bad weather conditions, according to officials quoted in the newspaper.
Beijing's defence ministry added: "The United States has continuously sent military ships and planes to make a show of force and create tensions in the waters and airspace" of the South China Sea.
"The Chinese army will take all necessary measures to defend the sovereignty and the security of the country."
The US is critical of China for building artificial islands in the disputed sea, and has flown other B-52 bombers and sailed a guided-missile destroyer near some of the constructions in recent months.
Washington has said China's transformation of the geographical features in the Spratly Islands poses a threat to freedom of navigation in the critical body of water.
China's military conducted war games in the area this week, with warships, submarines and fighter jets deployed over a "range of several thousand kilometres", the People's Liberation Army Daily said.

Rockwell B-1 Lancer bomber Awesome Take Off
The Rockwell (now part of Boeing) B-1 Lancer[N 1] is a four-engine supersonic variable-sweep wing, jet-powered heavy strategic bomber used by the United States Air Force (USAF). It was first envisioned in the 1960s as a supersonic bomber with Mach 2 speed, and sufficient range and payload to replace the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress. It was developed into the B-1B, primarily a low-level penetrator with long range and Mach 1.25 speed capability at high altitude. It is commonly called the "Bone" (originally from "B-One").
Designed by Rockwell International, development was delayed multiple times over its history due to changes in the perceived need for manned bombers. The initial B-1A version was developed in the early 1970s, but its production was canceled, and only four prototypes were built. The need for a new platform once again surfaced in the early 1980s, and the aircraft resurfaced as the B-1B version with the focus on low-level penetration bombing. However, by this point, development of stealth technology was promising an aircraft of dramatically improved capability. Production went ahead as the B version would be operational before the "Advanced Technology Bomber" (which became the B-2 Spirit), during a period when the B-52 would be increasingly vulnerable. The B-1B entered service in 1986 with the USAF Strategic Air Command (SAC) as a nuclear bomber.
In the early 1990s, following the Gulf War and concurrent with the disestablishment of SAC and its reassignment to the newly formed Air Combat Command (ACC), the B-1B was converted to conventional bombing use. It first served in combat during Operation Desert Fox in 1998 and again during the NATO action in Kosovo the following year. The B-1B has supported U.S. and NATO military forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. The B-1B is expected to continue to serve into the 2030s, with the Long Range Strike Bomber to start supplementing the B-1B in 2030.

The B-52 completed fifty years of continuous service with its original operator in 2005; after being upgraded between 2013 and 2015, it is expected to serve into the 2040s

Video of Airmen from the 34th Aircraft Maintenance Unit maintaining the B-1B Lancer at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar.
The B-1 Lancer is a four-engine supersonic variable-sweep wing, jet-powered heavy strategic bomber used by the United States Air Force. (Read more: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockwell_B-1_Lancer)

The B-52s official name Stratofortress is rarely used in informal circumstances, and it has become common to refer to the aircraft as the BUFF (Big Ugly Fat Fucker).
The B-52 completed fifty years of continuous service with its original operator in 2005; after being upgraded between 2013 and 2015, it is expected to serve into the 2040s.

Created by the Strategic Air Command, this film documents Operation Blue Nose in April of 1960. On April 20, a 4135th Strategic Wing B-52G crew at Eglin AFB, Fla., launched a Hound Dog missile at the end of a 20-hour, 30-minute flight to the North Pole and back. This test verified the ability of the B-52 and missile to operate in temperatures as low as 75 degrees below zero. The North American Aviation Corporation AGM-28 Hound Dog was a supersonic, jet propelled, air-launched cruise missile. The Hound Dog missile was first given the designation B-77, then redesignated GAM-77, and finally as AGM-28. The Hound Dog was conceived as a temporary stand-off weapon for the B-52 Stratofortress bomber, to be used until the GAM-87 Skybolt air-launched ballistic missile was available. Instead, the Skybolt missile was canceled within a few years, and the Hound Dog was deployed for 15 years until the missile was replaced by newer weapons, including the SRAM missile and the AGM-86 Air-Launched Cruise Missile.
The North American Aviation AGM-28 Hound Dog was a supersonic, turbojet-propelled, air-launched cruise missile. The Hound Dog missile was first given the designation B-77, then redesignated GAM-77, and finally as AGM-28. The Hound Dog was conceived as a temporary standoff missile for the B-52 Stratofortress bomber, to be used until the GAM-87 Skybolt air-launched ballistic missile was available. Instead, the Skybolt missile was cancelled within a few years, and the Hound Dog was deployed for 15 years until the missile was replaced by newer weapons, including the SRAM missile and the AGM-86 Air-Launched Cruise Missile.
In July 1960, the Hound Dog reached initial operational capability with the first B-52 unit. The Hound Dog was used on airborne alert for the first time in January 1962. In 1962, SAC activated missile maintenance squadrons to provide maintenance for both the Hound Dog and the ADM-20 Quail decoy missile. Full operational capability was achieved in August 1963 when 29 B-52 bomber wings were operational with the Hound Dog.
In 1960, SAC developed procedures so that the B-52 could use the Hound Dog's J52 engine for additional thrust while the missile was located on the bomber's two pylons. This helped heavily laden B-52s fly away from their airbases faster, before enemy nuclear weapons obliterated them. The Hound Dog could then be refueled from the B-52's wing fuel tanks.
One Hound Dog missile crashed near the town of Samson, Alabama, when it failed to self-destruct after a test launch from Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. In 1962, a Hound Dog was accidentally dropped to the ground during an underwing systems check.
In May 1962, operation "Silk Hat" was conducted at Eglin Air Force Base. During this exercise, a Hound Dog test launch was conducted before an audience of national and international dignitaries headed by President John F. Kennedy and Vice-President Lyndon B. Johnson.
On September 22, 1966, Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara recommended retiring all of the remaining Hound Dog missiles, within a few years. The Hound Dogs would be retained pending the outcome of the Terrain Contour Matching (TERCOM) guidance system development program. Secretary McNamara's recommendation was not acted upon, and the Hound Dog remained in service.
After thirteen years of service with the Air Force, the last Hound Dog missile was removed from alert deployment on June 30, 1975. The Hound Dog missiles were kept in dead storage for a number of years. The last Hound Dog was retired for scrapping on June 15, 1978, from the 42nd Bomb Wing at Loring Air Force Base, Maine.
No Hound Dog missile was ever used in combat, since it was strictly a weapon for nuclear warfare.

Doomsday Mission - Rockwell B-1 Lancer Documentary - Military Channel
The Rockwell (currently part of Boeing) B-1 Lancer [N 1] is a four-engine supersonic variable-sweep wing, jet-powered heavy strategic bomber utilized by the United States Air Force (USAF). It was first imagined in the 1960s as a supersonic bomber with Mach 2 speed, and also sufficient variety and payload to change the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress. It was turned into the B-1B, mainly a low-level penetrator with long array and Mach 1.25 speed capability at high altitude. It is frequently called the "Bone" (initially from "B-One").
Designed by Rockwell International, property development was postponed numerous times over its past history due to changes in the regarded demand for manned bombers. The initial B-1A version was manufactureded in the early 1970s, however its manufacturing was canceled, and also just 4 models were developed. The need for a new platform once again emerged in the early 1980s, as well as the plane resurfaced as the B-1B version with the concentrate on low-level penetration battle. However, by this factor, growth of stealth innovation was assuring a plane of considerably boosted capability. Manufacturing went ahead as the B variation would certainly be operational prior to the "Advanced Innovation Bomber" (which became the B-2 Spirit), throughout a period when the B-52 would be significantly prone. The B-1B got in service in 1986 with the USAF Strategic Air Command (SAC) as a nuclear bombing plane.
In the early 1990s, complying with the Gulf War and also simultaneous with the disestablishment of SAC as well as its reassignment to the newly developed Air Battle Command (ACC), the B-1B was transformed to standard battle consumption. It initially served in combat during Procedure Desert Fox in 1998 as well as once again throughout the NATO action in Kosovo the list below year. The B-1B has supported U.S. and NATO military forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. The B-1B is expected to continuously serve right into the 2030s, with the Long Range Strike Bombing plane to start supplementing the B-1B in 2030.
In 1955 the united state Flying force provided requirements for a brand-new bomber incorporating the payload and array of the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress with the Mach 2 maximum speed of the Convair B-58 Hustler. [2] In December 1957, the united state Air Force chose North American Aviation's proposition to change the B-52 with the B-70 Valkyrie. [3] The Valkyrie was a six-engine bombing plane that could get to Mach 3 rates at high altitude (70,000 ft or 21,000 m) [4] to avoid interceptor plane, the just reliable anti-bomber tool in the 1950s. [5] Soviet aircraft were currently not able to intercept the high-flying Lockheed U-2; [6] the Valkyrie would fly at comparable altitudes but considerably higher rates. [5] In fight, the B-70 was anticipated to merely fly right by the protectors.
