If you'd like an introduction to programming embedded systems using Visual Studio, this free training is for you. Experts walk you through programming Arduino microcontroller boards, along with the sensors and devices needed to build autonomous wheeled robots, robotic arms, and wirelessly controlled robots.
In this on-demand course, learn to write code that reads and writes values to hardware (using connection pins on the boards) like you would in a data entry application, but in this case you are controlling a physical system. Explore additional types of hardware, and discover how to program robots that can move around and interact with their environment. See how to increase their awareness and their ability to interact physically as they become more advanced. End the sessions with the tools to program both autonomous and remotely controlled robots that move around on either wheels or robotic legs. See how easy and affordable programming robotic systems can be in this free Visual Studio course!

Embedded Systems, Robotics, and This MVA Training Series
Get an intro to the MVA series on embedded systems and a description of industry hardware/software. Walk through the outline of this course, and see a quick demo of the robots created for it.
1| Getting Started with Arduino
Meet the Arduino family of controller boards, and explore configuring Visual Studio as your software development environment. Review online resources, and write a program that controls a servo motor based on the value of an on/off switch.
2| Creating Your First Arduino Robot
Learn to build and program an autonomous robot that uses servo motors and bump sensors to navigate around obstacles. Learn how to calibrate motor speed and direction, along with how to keep your robot responsive.
3| Controlling a Robotic Arm
See how to program the positioning of servo motors for a robotic arm. Develop calibration and test routines that enable you to control the angular position of the arm joints. This robotic arm is used in your next robot.
4| Integrating Advanced Sensors and Shields
Explore advanced sensor types and how to use “shield” circuit boards to extend the functionality of an Arduino board. Write code that measures distances using an ultrasonic rangefinder sensor, and control more powerful DC motors.
5| Mapping Areas and Detecting Objects
Find out how to use the readings from distance sensors to create a boundary area map of the space around your robot. Your robot uses this area map to help it navigate and to detect moving objects.
6| Integrating Wireless Control and Communication
Discover the wireless communication technologies that you can use in your robotic projects and how to configure and use RF transmitter/receiver pairs. Finish with a look at the wirelessly controlled MSSpider-Bot.
7| Looking Ahead

Alright so your a beginner in Robotics and you want to be able to make a robot that has some kind of intelligence. In this video I'll be teaching you the complete basics you need to know when making robots with a microcontroller. The Arduino is a very simple microcontroller to use. The language used for the Arduino is very similar to C. So for those who studied C in College, programming will be easier for you guys to learn. The one I'm using is called an Arduino Nano clone that got cheap off of an online site. I'll also be talking about the essential tools required when building robots.

wn.com/Learning The Basics In Robotics
Alright so your a beginner in Robotics and you want to be able to make a robot that has some kind of intelligence. In this video I'll be teaching you the complete basics you need to know when making robots with a microcontroller. The Arduino is a very simple microcontroller to use. The language used for the Arduino is very similar to C. So for those who studied C in College, programming will be easier for you guys to learn. The one I'm using is called an Arduino Nano clone that got cheap off of an online site. I'll also be talking about the essential tools required when building robots.

MIT researchers have developed an algorithm for bounding that they've successfully implemented in a robotic cheetah. (Learn more: http://bit.ly/1CZToFe)
The key to the bounding algorithm is in programming each of the robot's legs to exert a certain amount of force in the split second during which it hits the ground, in order to maintain a given speed: In general, the faster the desired speed, the more force must be applied to propel the robot forward. In experiments the robot sprinted up to 10 mph and MIT researchers estimate the robot may eventually reach speeds of up to 30 mph.
The MIT Cheetah 2 contains the custom electric motor designed by Jeffrey Lang, the Vitesse Professor of Electrical Engineering at MIT and the amplifier designed by David Otten, a principal research engineer in MIT’s Research Laboratory of Electronics.
This work was supported by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

In the near future, rescue missions and surveillance operations could be carried out by a plague of leaping robots.
Roboticists in Israel have developed a machine, inspired by the movements of a locust, that can leap a remarkable 11.5ft (3.5 metres) into the air.
It uses carbon rods, steel springs and 3D-printed plastic pieces to make it lightweight enough to travel long distances.
The bio-inspired robot, dubbed TAUB was developed by engineers and zoologists at Tel Aviv University and Ort Braude College, led by Professor Amir Ayali.
It weighs less than an ounce (23 grams) and is approximately 4-inches (10cm) long.
The robot uses mechanical energy in addition to its 'muscle force' in order to generate a jump that exactly imitates the insect.
It is fitted with a tiny motor that generates, or stores mechanical energy, and this mechanical energy in springs is said to be similar to the legs of a locust, which propel it into the air.
Unlike drones that can be airborne for up to about 30 minutes, the locust robot is powered by a lithium battery.
With its energy efficiency it can reach up to 1,000 jumps with only one battery loading.
Professor Ayali told Reuters the robot could be easily mass produced since its parts are cheap and it is easy to manufacture, estimating the price of a robot at $100 (£69).
'The locust being a large insect that has wonderful jumping performance had offered itself as wonderful inspiration for this specific idea of a jumping...miniature jumping robot,' he said.
From oil spills to rescue and surveillance operations, 'what you do with it is whatever is needed whenever you want to engage any kind of robotic system with no human interference,' he added.
Professor Ayali believes that with sufficient knowledge of locusts' swarming capabilities, the robots may be capable of implementing the mechanisms of swarming capabilities in robotic systems.
Hungarian-born Doctor Gabor Kosa, of TAU's Faculty of Engineering, envisages a swarm of robots installed with GPS navigation systems, cameras and solar panels for powering, entering enemy territory to carry out a surveillance operation.
Kosa hopes that with proper funding his team can build a robotic system capable of jumping multiple times and possibly even mimicking the locust by spreading its wings and flying.

In the first-year intro-to-engineering class at Tufts University, instructors Ethan Danahy and Aaron Johnson created a "space themed" project around developing tools that could be used by astronauts in space in order to perform typical tasks that happen on an EVA (extravehicular activity, or space walk): moving nuts between bolts or routing wires. The students had to leverage the LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 hardware in order to develop a new tool to accomplish this task, and were evaluated by an in-class competition to see which tools performed the best/fastest.
Special thanks to Astronaut Don Pettit for the assignment inspiration, Former Astronaut Jeff Hoffman for sharing his experiences with the class, and Leah Fletcher for editing the video.

This video shows the capability of a Mobile Robot based on turtlebot2 base, as a Restaurant Assistant. It aligns itself in a map using LiDAR laser scanner based onadaptive (or KLD-sampling) Monte Carlo localization (AMCL) approach and waits for the visual commands near the Chef's counter. It takes the food and moves toward the predefined table positions. Upon reaching at the table as per guided by the ARTag, it waits until the customer picks the food and it returns to the Kitchen.
This project is developed using Robot Operating System. The output from the terminal and the video stream from Microsoft Kinect is seen on the video while the locomotion of the robot can be seen in a live map generated by RVIZ.
Details of the project along with the code is presented in the following git repository:

[BBC Robot Documentary] Robots of the Future Future of Robotics - NEW+ HD Documentary
A robot is a mechanical or virtual artificial agent, usually an electro-mechanical machine that is guided by a computer program or electronic circuitry. Robots can be autonomous or semi-autonomous and range from humanoids such as Honda's Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility (ASIMO) and TOSY's TOSY Ping Pong Playing Robot (TOPIO) to industrial robots, collectively programmed swarm robots, and even microscopic nano robots. By mimicking a lifelike appearance or automating movements, a robot may convey a sense of intelligence or thought of its own.
The branch of technology that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots,[2] as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing is robotics. These technologies deal with automated machines that can take the place of humans in dangerous environments or manufacturing processes, or resemble humans in appearance, behavior, and/or cognition. Many of today's robots are inspired by nature contributing to the field of bio-inspired robotics. These robots have also created a newer branch of robotics: Soft robotics.
From the time of ancient civilization there have been many accounts of user-configurable automated devices and even automata resembling animals and humans, designed primarily as entertainment. As mechanical techniques developed through the Industrial age, there appeared more practical applications such as automated machines, remote-control and wireless remote-control.
The word 'robot' was first used to denote fictional humanoid in a 1921 play R.U.R. by the Czech writer, Karel Čapek. Electronics evolved into the driving force of development with the advent of the first electronic autonomous robots created by William Grey Walter in Bristol, England in 1948. The first digital and programmable robot was invented by George Devol in 1954 and was named the Unimate. It was sold to General Motors in 1961 where it was used to lift pieces of hot metal from die casting machines at the Inland Fisher Guide Plant in the West Trenton section of Ewing Township, New Jersey.[3]
Robots have replaced humans[4] in the assistance of performing those repetitive and dangerous tasks which humans prefer not to do, or are unable to do due to size limitations, or even those such as in outer space or at the bottom of the sea where humans could not survive the extreme environments.
There are concerns about the increasing use of robots and their role in society. Robots are blamed for rising unemployment as they replace workers in increasing numbers of functions.[5] The use of robots in military combat raises ethical concerns. The possibilities of robot autonomy and potential repercussions have been addressed in fiction and may be a realistic concern in the future.
