Members of the Miao minority group celebrated their traditional fish killing festival on Friday in southwest China's Guizhou Province.
The villagers got up early on a misty morning to prepare for the annual festival. Thousands of tourists converged to the village, eager to see the exotic taste of life.
The grand ceremony began with young men and women performing a traditional dance in the village square.
The fish hunters then drank wine before setting off towards a local river, singing along the way.
Along the river, prestigious village elders were waiting for them to burn incense and present wine to nature to thank it for providing them with food.
After the ceremony, a special drug was poured into the water to make the fish float to the surface, and the hunters then stood in the river and used steel forks to catch the fish.
"I caught three fish today and my whole family will come and share the fish," said Wang Wenxue, an older hunter.
Some tourists at the festival got in on the action too, wading into the river to catch fish with the locals.
"I want my kids to experience this way of living. They work hard at school and now they can try something different," said Liu Nengyi, a tourist.

STORYLINE:
In a remote corner of Guizhou Province, one of the poorest and least developed provinces in China, there is a small village called 'Shimen' or Stone Gate village.
The two dirt roads leading into and out of the village are rutted and frequently impassable, so most of the villagers walk or carry supplies by donkey.
In the middle of the village is the Shimen Christian church. The unassuming brick building is hugely important to the Miao people who live in Shimen and other parts of South East Asia.
The Miao people are also known as the Hmong. There are now about 5.5 million Miao living in this part of China and nearby Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar (also known as Burma). Many others have moved to western countries, including the United States, Australia, France and Canada.
Although they live in China, which is historically Buddhist and more recently non-religious, a large percentage of the Miao hill people are Christians.
Many of them can trace their religious beliefs to a single man.
Samuel Pollard came to this village as a young missionary just over 100 years ago, in 1905, looking to convert the Miao. He died here in 1915 of Typhoid.
He not only influenced the religious beliefs of the Miao, but also gave a written language to the tribal group.
Xie Zhengshu says Pollard was first to write down their language.
