Although Australia has a solid German community, German teachers often find their classes filling up with German and English-speaking students. The modern –day teacher has excellent digital and multimedia tools to supplement the traditional printed study material. Language practicing and spoken German will form a solid component of the class and lectures. The German teacher will teach students by supplying lectures and study material, and usually exams and tests follow at set dates. It is particularly the higher grade students that will also be responsible for completing homework. In accordance with the national standards and curriculum, the teacher will ensure that the major educational goals are met and that the classroom teaching is up to national standard. Working at either private or public schools or even small independent colleges, the German teacher will have set working hours, after-hour responsibilities and designated holiday periods.

Responsibilities & Skills

The German teacher will be responsible for developing and preparing class programs, lectures and other study material. The main daily responsibility is delivering class lectures. The German teacher will also be responsible for monitoring individual student progress through means of student evaluation, assignments and the marking of assignments. A fair level of administration is required: record keeping, drawing up and printing study material, administration of class progress and reporting on this to department head teacher.

- Outstanding communication, both written and verbal.
- Ability to effectively deliver information and teach a class.
- Excellent command of German language and literature.

Required Qualifications

• Four-year Teachers Education degree or diploma
• Practical teaching (completed as part of post-matriculation education).
• Registration with the Teachers Registration Board
