A general laborer performs jobs at construction sites. These laborers are not skilled workers as they do not practice carpentry or other skilled jobs. They are sometimes employed by masons or carpenters to help them complete work.

At construction sites, they perform tasks like using basic tools, forklifts and small construction vehicles. General laborers are responsible for completing both simple and complex tasks using prior skill and practice. They must finish their work in a timely fashion and be sure to provide quality work.

In addition to doing simple tasks, they must work in any weather condition, whether it be rainy, cold or extremely hot. Similarly, they perform dangerous tasks, such as removing lead, chemicals or asbestos.

General laborers are managed by construction site managers, and for the most part do not have any leadership roles in a construction site.

Responsibilities & Skills

General laborers must have a strong grasp of language, and need to be able to talk to others and convey information effectively as communication and active listening is crucial to provide safety in a construction site.

Employers usually for laborers that has basic experience in labor procedures such as carrying heavy materials, loading and unloading trucks and mixing concrete. They also look for people with knowledge of safe work practices, and safety equipment.
