Located in the sunny state of Queensland, Hervey Bay is around 290km (180mil) north of the state's capital, Brisbane. The man driver of the local economy is tourism and it is a fantastic place for whale watching. So much so that is actually the whale watching capital of Australia. Each year between April and October, humpback whales migrate along the coast. Many of these whales use Hervey Bay as a resting point with the Mums and Calves regenerating and gathering energy to enable their journey to Antarctica to be a successful one.
Hervey Bay has a population of around 63,000 and boasts a blissful subtropical climate. The area experiences low rainfall and plenty of sunshine, even in the winter. Fraser Island is world heritage listed sites and attracts many visitors throughout the year. It contains a unique foundation of sand and rainforests and is an excellent place to go 4 wheel driving.
