Grafton is a city acting as a commercial centre for the Clarence River Valley. It is situated in New South Wales and has a population of approximately 17,501 (2006). It is commonly referred to as the 'Jacaranda City' because of the purple flowered Jacaranda trees along the edge of its streets. Grafton also holds a Jacaranda Festival every year and is the longest running floral festival in he nation.
Along with the abundant amount of trees, the city also contains 24 parks perfect for picnicking, dog walking and social gatherings. Grafton has a population of 18,500 and is largely an agricultural city. Industries include dairy farming, sugar cane production, fishing and pig and cattle farming.
The Clarence River is a beautiful element of Grafton's environment and attracts many people who enjoy a riverside lifestyle. The Bridge to Bride Ski race is a very popular and well-established sporting event that takes place annually in October.
