James (Jim) W. Loewen (born February 6, 1942) is a sociologist, historian, and author whose best-known work is Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong (1995).

Loewen was born to Winifred and Dr. David F. Loewen in 1942. His mother was a librarian and teacher, and his father was a medical director. Loewen grew up in Decatur, Illinois. He was a National Merit Scholar as a graduate in 1960 from MacArthur High School.

He attended Carleton College. In 1963, as a junior, he spent a semester in Mississippi, an experience in a different culture that led to his questioning what he had been taught about United States history. He was intrigued by learning about the unique place of nineteenth-century Chinese immigrants and their descendants in Mississippi culture, commonly thought of as biracial. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in sociology from Harvard University based on his research on the Chinese in Mississippi.

Loewen first taught in Mississippi at Tougaloo College, a historically black college founded by the American Missionary Association after the American Civil War. For 20 years, Loewen taught about racism at the University of Vermont. Since 1997, he has been a Visiting Professor of Sociology at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.

An estate agent is a person or business that arranges the selling, renting or management of properties, and other buildings, in the United Kingdom and Ireland. An agent that specialises in renting is often called a letting or management agent. Estate agents are mainly engaged in the marketing of property available for sale and a solicitor or licensed conveyancer is used to prepare the legal documents. In Scotland, however, many solicitors also act as estate agents, a practice that is rare in England and Wales.

It is customary in the United Kingdom and in Ireland to refer to real estate or real property simply as property.

The estate agent remains the current title for the person responsible for the management of one group of privately owned, all or mostly tenanted, properties under one ownership. Alternative titles are Factor, Steward or Bailiff depending on the era, the region and the extent of the property concerned.

The term originally referred to a person responsible for managing a landed estate, while those engaged in the buying and selling of homes were "House Agents", and those selling land were "Land Agents". However, in the 20th century, "Estate Agent" started to be used as a generic term, perhaps because it was thought to sound more impressive. Estate agent is roughly synonymous in the United States with the term real estate broker.

Chris Abbott (born 17 September 1947) is an American television producer, writer and author. She is a graduate of University of Oregon, with an MFA from Bennington College in Vermont. She started her career writing for Little House on the Prairie. She also wrote for other primetime series such as B.L. Stryker, Legacy, Bandit: Bandit Goes Country, Revealing Evidence: Stalking The Honolulu Strangler, High Sierra Search And Rescue, Cagney & Lacey, Quantum Leap, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: The Next Generation, and produced and wrote Magnum, P.I. (as Executive Story Consultant), Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman (as Creative Consultant), and Diagnosis: Murder.

She has worked on the CBS Daytime serials The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless. Abbott was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for best writing in 2006.
