Franconia Notch Traverse trail loop _ The White Mountains , New Hampshire 1080p
The Franconia Ridge Traverse is one of the most popular higher summit loops in the White Mountains. It traverses the two popular 5000 footers of Mount Lincoln and Mount Lafayette and one sub peak, Little Haystack at 4800 feet.
We took the Falling Waters trail that follows a crystal clear cascade consisting of 3.2 miles of a steep rocky trail to the summit of Little Haystack Mt. at 4800 feet.

Like all dams, the Franconia Paper Mill dam was blocking the Wells River flow and ability to move sediment and debris downstream. This deadbeat dam in Groton, VT was also a flood and recreation hazard. Now fish can swim upstream to spawn and people can enjoy this stretch of river safely.
As of July 2014, exactly two years after the process began, the Wells River is flowing freely through this are

Lyrics:
Viva Franconia
Wohlan Halunken
Bei uns wird ausgetrunken
Im Frankenland
Viva Franconia
Doch entschlüsselt in Franken
Dem schönsten Land dieser Welt
Denn nur wer austrinkt versteht das Prinzip
Von Bierüberfluss und Metalgenuss
Wohlan Halunken
Bei uns wird ausgetrunken
Im Frankenland
Viva Franconia
Viel ist zu tun
Auf die Fässer, hoch die Krüge
Gehen wir es an
Auf unser Franken!
Zirndorf, Gampert, Hupperndorf,
Ikonen des fränkischen Biers
Sturmsbier, Zwergla, Staffelbräu
All das bekommt ihr nur hier
Denn nur wer austrinkt versteht das Prinzip
Von Bierüberfluss und Metalgenuss
Wohlan Halunken
Bei uns wird ausgetrunken
Im Frankenland
Viva Franconia
Viel ist zu tun
Auf die Fässer, hoch die Krüge

Wohlan Halunken

Mit Wein und Bier,
Und lauthals singen wir: Franconia
Auf unser Franken!
Translation (by hurentoeter):
Viva Franconia
Well then scoundrels
Right here we floor the bottles
In the land of the franks
Viva Franconia
The dream is real
The position known
The path to it long and arduous
Destination is sight -- The holy land
Only here your yearning is heard
Look out, stay here
And party with me
Life is lovely today
Enter the land named Franconia
Just rest here and then you will see
Since only the ones who drink up get the principle
Of plenty of beer and the joy of metal
Well then scoundrels
Right here we floor the bottles
In the land of the franks
Viva Franconia
There is much to do
Open the barrels, rise the jugs
Let's approach it
To Franconia!
From the gate of Bamberg up to Grabfeldgau
This land rises under the Main
We hike up on it, through the splendid meadow
Climb up on the Staffelstein
Which was once told a secret by a god
Of the riddle of hops and malt
Often not understood
But decrypted in Franconia
The most pretty country in this world
Since only the ones who drink up get the principle
Of plenty of beer and the joy of metal
Well then scoundrels
Right here we floor the bottles
In the land of the franks

The crown jewel of our honeymoon hikes, Franconia Ridge was stunning on August 1, 2013. Enjoy this tour of the entire loop to find what awaits you or revisit the journey if you were unable to record it. Counter to popular suggestion, we ascended via the Old Bridle Path Trail and Greenleaf Trail and descended along Falling Waters Trail. We highly recommend taking this route as it provides many benefits including: spend most of your hike descending after summiting Mt. Lafayette first instead of last, avoid the crowds while ascending and descending, descending via Falling Waters seems no worse than by Old Bridle Path, and ice the cake with beautiful waterfalls at the end of the day.
We began at 7:11am which provided for gorgeous views of the early morning along Old Bridle Path Trail. Mt. Lafayette, at 5,249 ft, was the highest of three peaks we summited. This hike is strenuous at a total length of 9.14 miles, requiring a few rock scrambles if you are without hiking poles and there are many boulders that require careful navigating. We completed the hike in 8 hrs 50 min, being sure to enjoy the summits and views along the way. This video compresses that time down to 22 min 51 sec.
Footage was taken with a handheld GoPro Hero 3 Silver Edition and edited in Adobe Photoshop CS6. Music was found on freemusicarchive.org, a wonderful resource!

Shepherd Entertainment gives you the history of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which is a mountain resort town in Bavaria, Germany.
Garmisch was a small alpine dwelling inhabited by shepherds but the neighboring, Partenkirchen already existed in Roman times and was called Parthenon. The residents of the two villages probably didn't like each other much. They even built their churches with their backs to each other lest they should meet by chance. All this changed in 1935 when the two villages were united in order to have better chances at the tender to organize the winter Olympics. This is when they built their ice skating stadium that was once the biggest in Europe. The three run ski jump stadium at the foot of the -- and the bobsled track surrounded by mountain lakes. The city is still developing and it's become one of the most well known vacation and ski resorts of Germany.
However, it's not only a paradise for winter sports. One of Europe's biggest swimming complexes and the first wellness center Auschwitz was built in the 1970s. It has a water surface of 2000 square meters, a wave pool and an open beach. In summer, people can also swim in Riessersee, -- and Eibsee. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a real holiday resort with a well kept holiday park, theater, confectioneries and restaurants. Richard Strauss bought a villa here from the royalties who received for his opera Salome and lived here until his death. We can find villas similar to Strauss' in both parts of the city mixing with farm houses built in alpine style.
There are some Franconia and Swabian, wooden beam structured houses called Fachberg houses but there are more Bavarian ones. The latter are shorter, stubbier. Earlier these frescoes also called luftmalerei used to portray religious scenes but today, they'd rather tell the story of the house itself or the family who owns the house. On the walls of hotels and shops, they're a form of advertisement. The wall of Garmisch's oldest in inn, the Huszar is decorated with the picture of a dragon looking out the window.
The well kept gardens are full of flowers of an incredibly wide variety and naturally geraniums adorn all windowsills and railings. The new joint city hall was built in 1935 before the winter Olympics. The most remarkable event in the city surroundings is the passion play in Oberammergau. The inhabitants of the small mountain village have been performing the story of the passion of Christ every 10 years for 380 years now. Their ancestors took a vow to do this at the time of the great plague. The passion is performed for six month from morning until evening and is now a widely known event that draws hundreds of thousands of spectators.
A real technical relic, one of the old locomotives of the Zugspitzbahn is exhibited in front of the --house. New motor engines have taken its place in transportation which may not be prettier but are certainly more modern. Every winter, skiers, snow boarders and extreme sports lovers invade the mountains around Garmisch. The lower station of the Zugspitzbahn is near the stadium. There're several ways to go up the mountain including the cograils, cable cars, funiculars and ski lifts. But we can only get near the 2966m high summit with the Zugspitzbahn. Experienced hikers and mountain climbers can also reach the summit on foot in nine hours. The first person to reach the Zugspitz in this way was a Bavarian soldier in 1920.
The tracks wind between the houses on the western part of Garmisch then make their way up the steep hillside. Through the pine forests, we can see spectacular mountain lakes sparkling. The last stretch of the journey takes us through a long tunnel. Emerging from the tunnel, we are greeted by a beautiful small lake and after a couple of minutes, we reach the top station. On the summing, we'll find a ski lift and a resthouse with two coats of arms on its railings to show where Bavaria ends and where the Austrian province Tyrol begins. From the huge terrace, we can see the surrounding mountains of Vank, --. There's a small chapel on the snow speckled summit where victims of the mountains are commemorated.
The restaurant of the rest house offers tourists, mountaineers and skiers real Bavarian specialties and hot drinks. For our way down, we can also choose the cable car, the Seilbahn that takes us to the small lake of Eibsee instead of Garmisch. Eibsee is a crystal clear emerald colored mountain lake. Campgrounds and hotels have been built here and many people come here in summer to swim and row boats.

Würzburg or Wuerzburg (and sometimes mis-spelled as Wurzburg) is in Franconia, in northern Bavaria,Germany.
Founded in the 10th century, Würzburg served as the home of powerful prince-bishops for many centuries. It is renowned for the Residence, regarded as one of the finest palaces in Europe and a high point of Baroque art (also UNESCO cultural world heritage). Würzburg is also home to one of the oldest churches in Germany, built in the 8th century on top of a former pagan shrine. One of its most famous structures, Festung Marienberg, is a fortress which now surrounds the church.
Würzburg was the center of the kingdom known as Franconia. In the 19th century, Napoleon merged Franconia with Bavaria, by which the city is ruled to this day.
Würzburg experienced heavy demolition during a 20-minute bombing raid in 1945 which destroyed some 80% of its city buildings. Much of the city has since been rebuilt, though not as painstakingly true to its original architecture as some other historic german communities. Anyone eager to visit this town to study its historic architectural structures should be prepared to see its restored buildings placed next to several post-war modernistic houses. Würzburg has been home to a large US military installment since post-World War II reconstruction. As a result, many of the locals are familiar with American customs. However, as of 2006, the military base is scheduled to close which will cause the city to lose most of its American bases.

==================
Würzburger Residence is one of the finest Palaces in Europe and is famed for its magnificent staircase. It is regarded as one of the finest pieces of Baroque art in the world as such it has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The building was designed by Balthasar Neuman, and the Fresco above the Staircase was painted by Tiepolo, it is reputed to be the largest in the world. The palace has 300 rooms, spread over 3 wings. There is also a Chapel decorated by Tiepolo which is free to enter and well worth a visit
Entrance is €6.50, 9am - 6 pm Summer 10am-4.30pm winter
Würzburger Residence gardens are situated behind the Palace and are free to enter
There are several old, beauiful churches in town to visit and marvel at, cafes, shops and eating establishments to spend time in as well as taking in a guided tour of the city.
Festung Marienberg. Enjoy the beautiful view over the city and the Main from the fortress' walls which are open freely to the public. The castle's pay-admission museum is a somewhat confusing experience to foreign visitors and could be avoided as it is almost entirely in german. No english language guiding is available. Also note that most of the Marienberg's once very rare collections and interior were destroyed in a fire during the war. Today's interior and the present collections are a sad replacement.

Würzburger Weinfest, one of the bigger wine fairs. But nearly every winegrowing village in Lower Franconia has its own wine fair, so you can visit at least one if you visit Würzburg in summer or fall months.

Nuremberg Travel Video - Nuremberg (Nürnberg), Bavaria's second-largest city and the unofficial capital of Franconia, is an energetic place where the nightlife is i
ntense and the beer is as dark as coffee. As one of Bavaria's biggest draws it is alive with visitors year-round, but especially during the spectacular Christmas market.
For centuries, Nuremberg was the undeclared capital of the Holy Roman Empire and the preferred residence of most German kings, who kept their crown jewels here. Rich and stuffed with architectural wonders, it was also a magnet for famous artists, though the most famous of all, Albrecht Dürer, was actually born here. 'Nuremberg shines throughout Germany like a sun among the moon and stars,' gushed Martin Luther. By the 19th century, the city had become a powerhouse in Germany's industrial revolution.

Bavaria Travel Guide http://bit.ly/122uYVH
Bayreuth is a sizable town and located in northern Bavaria, Germany. Its visitors can enjoy the Hermitage Castle, Richard
Wagner Museum and the Markgrafliches Opera House.
According to linguists, the name Bayreuth refers back to the forest that was cut down by the Bavarians to make room for the settlement. Whether this is true or not is unknown. The city itself was annexed to Bavaria only in 1810 and is the capital of Upper Franconia. Its population was made up of more Francs than Bavarians. The city's opera house is one of the last baroque opera houses in Europe that remained untouched. Friedrich Margrave and his wife Wilhelmina had it built starting in 1745 by the distinguished Italian specialist, Guiseppe Galli Bibiena. One of the neighbors of the opera house is the theater where lavish balls were held and the other is the old synagogue. The latter survived the Second World War only because is it so tightly built together with the opera that has lots of wooden structural elements. In order to protect the opera, the Nazis spared the synagogue.
The public considers Bayreuth to be Wagner's city. The composer had to flee because of his participation in the 1848 revolution and only returned to the German territory at the request of Ludwig II, an admirer of his art in 1864. First settled down in Munich and only moved to Bayreuth seven years later, where he lived until his death. His classical style family villa, the Wahnfried lies on the northeast edge of the Hofgarten and was turned into a memorial museum in the 1970s. specialists consider the most valuable part of the legacy to be the score of eight operas with their drafts, instructions for the orchestra and letters. The composer died in 1883 while on a trip to Venice and was buried in the garden of the villa. The -- or New Castle is also situated in the Hofgarten near Wahnfried. Today the baroque palace houses the local history collection including of course Wagner's statue and in the other wing, the rich collection of the national gallery can be seen.
Bayreuth is located on the mine river between the Fichtel Mountains and the Frankish Alp and was annexed to Bavaria by Napoleon. Three special buildings of the Margrave family can be seen around the city. In the park of the Fantasie Castle, we can visit the artificial lake and the rock cave. In the Eremitage Castle, we can look around in the gallery and in the dome of the Sun Temple, the sun god drives his bronze chariot drawn by four horses. The main façade is covered with crystals and semiprecious stones. The historical old town of Bayreuth occupies only a small area besides the opera house, the theater, the parish church and the buildings of the Hofgarten, the only things we can admire are the neat streets and the mostly classicist villas. But that's okay since everyone comes here because of Wagner anyway.
For decades, Richard Wagner had planned to build his own theater where he could direct his own plays but the death of his patron made implementation significantly harder. In the end, the foundation stone of the Bayreuth theater was laid down on his 59th birthday. The -- house that has become the mecca of Wagner fans stands on a 380m high hill. Gottfried Semper's original plans were simplified by Otto Bruckwald under Wagner's watching eye. The theater opened its gates in 1876 with the Ring of the Nibelung. But it took decades for the Bayreuth festival organized every summer to become really popular.

Miltenberg is the seat of the like-named district in the Regierungsbezirk of Lower Franconia (Unterfranken) in Bavaria, Germany.
Location
==========
The historic Miltenberg lies on the Main’s left bank on the “left knee” of the Mainviereck (“Main Square”) between the Spessart and Odenwald ranges. Since the Main riverbed in the Miltenberg area is relatively near the foot of the Odenwald, only a narrow strip of usable land is left, which in bygone centuries was time and again flooded by the Main. The historic centre, which stands on this land, often sustained considerable damage in these floods. Only in the 21st century efficient flood control measures, most of all a wall, have significantly reduced the adverse effects of these floods. Since about the beginning of the 20th century, after buying land from the neighbouring community of Großheubach, Miltenberg has been spreading itself out on the right bank.
Tourism
==========
Miltenberg lies on the Fränkischer Rotwein Wanderweg ("Franconian Red Wine Hiking Trail"), which was established in 1990, and leads from Großwallstadt through Miltenberg to Bürgstadt.
A new concept was introduced with the Route der Industriekultur Rhein-Main (“Rhine-Main Industrial Culture Route”), which covers the 160 km between Miltenberg and Bingen. Industrial buildings in this area provide the visitors with the opportunity to learn about the industrial heritage in a regional context[5] 700 buildings have already been scientifically catalogued, including Miltenberg’s old railway station.

Nuremberg (German: Nürnberg) is a city in the German state of Bavaria, in the administrative region of Middle Franconia; it is Bavaria's second largest city after Munich. It is situated on the Pegnitz river and the Main-Danube Canal. It is located about 105 miles north of Munich, at 49.27° N 11.5° E. Population (as of 31. January 2008) is 502,984. The town is also the Center of the Metropolitan Region Nuremberg.
When people think of Nuremberg, they usually think of gingerbread, toys, Christmas, the Reich Party Rally Grounds, or the Nuremberg Trials. But the old town of Nuremberg is much more than this and indeed Nuremberg probably comes closest to many tourists' expectations of a typical German city: On the one hand one can find half-timbered houses, gothic churches within a medival city wall in the shadow of the towering imperial castle, which was one of the most important residences of the emporers of the Holy Roman Empire. On the other hand Nuremberg and the surrounding cities are home to many well-known German companies, e.g. Adidas, Diehl, Faber-Castell, Playmobil, Puma and several divisions of industrial giant Siemens. Finally, Nuermberg even can live up to culinary expectations with breweries and beergarden and its most famous dish, the Nuremberg sausages with Sauerkraut.

Bavaria, Germany Travel Video - The largest state in Germany, Bavaria (Bayern) is well endowed with natural riches: snowy Alpine peaks, rushing streams and velvety forests that stir the romantic soul. Bolstering Bavarian pride yet more is a wealth of historic buildings, arguably Germany’s best art museums, and an economy bigger than Sweden’s.
The old banking powerhouse, Augsburg, lies in Swabia. To the north the fabulous bishops’ cities of Nuremberg, Bamberg and Würzburg are part of Franconia, where locals don’t regard themselves as Bavarian. In the east, the Danube flows past the medieval stronghold of Regensburg towards the Italianate Passau, close to the rugged wilderness of the Bavarian Forest. The most popular route through Bavaria is the Romantic Road, a trail of walled towns and ancient watchtowers culminating in the world’s most famous castle, the sugary Neuschwanstein, near Füssen in the Bavarian Alps. The mountains have first-class resorts for hiking and skiing, incredible scenery and a wealth of beautiful frescoed villages. But Munich is Bavaria’s real heart and soul. It’s a stylish metropolis, a vortex of art and culture, yet a relaxed place that manages to combine Alpine air with Mediterranean joie de vivre. Wherever you go, be prepared for oceans of beer served with legendary, thigh-slapping hospitality.
Staunchly conservative, but with a flair for innovation, Bavarians see themselves as separate from the rest of Germany although, Bavaria actually embraces three peoples – the Bavarians, Franconians and Swabians. They still pine for an odd 19th-century monarch, Ludwig II, whose opulent palaces draw millions of visitors each year. Traditions are relished and earthy, and lederhosen-clad men still exist, quaffing frothy steins of beer to the strains of an oompah band.
